No, that's a much later one. ROTFL! BWAHAHAHAH. (I'd almost forgotten about
that - LaCroix takes Natalie on QUITE the charity ride. *snort* Sometimes my
ratpacker sense of humor gets the best of me)

Just for a humorous side bar, I will NEVER forget the day when my boss walked
into my office and said, "I found some interesting stories of yours this
weekend on something called JADFE. 'Screed's Big Adventure' and Screed does
something again. What does he do again, Libby?"

I of course REFUSED to answer (and I can't put the answer on here either<g>)

What is the url to the JADFE site and I'll try to find it as soon as I get my
yardsale set up. For the newbies, JADFE is *ADULT* stories, sometimes very
much so. If you are under 18 - stay away ;-)

Way back when, my moniker came to be "The Cousinly Ravenette".

See, I adored Janette, but I also thought LaCroix was awesome. What to do?

One night on IRC (everything in my life back then happened "one night on
IRC") we were discussing my dilemma, and somewhere along the way, I became
Ithildin, the Cousinly Ravenette. It stuck for quite a while! Not to
mention the Ithildin. It was my first email address, many ISPs ago, and my
IRC nick. I had no idea it would become a name -- Ith -- that I answer to
as readily as my own name!

I think one of the kewlest moments was at BTK, when someone looked at my
badge, and asked if I was the same Ithildin that wrote FK fanfic. I had one
of those, 'who, me?' moments <g> It was quite something to have someone
you'd never met know you from something you wrote!

Ith -- the still Cousinly Ravenette!

Religious sitcom a 'risk'
By CP

TORONTO -- Lord Have Mercy is exactly the sort of show title you would
expect to find on VisionTV, Canada's multi-faith, non-profit broadcaster.

It might be a documentary about contemporary miracles or a more
conventional treatment about the power of faith.

But here's the catch: Lord Have Mercy is an original sitcom, a 13-part
series set at the fictional Mt. Zion, an evangelical Caribbean storefront
church in midtown Toronto.

Tapings before a live studio audience started last week and the series --
starring Jamaican actor Leonie Forbes, rap artist Sean Singleton, standup
comic Russell Peters and actor Gary Farmer -- is scheduled to air sometime
next spring.

At first glance, a sitcom might seem more than a little incongruous in a
broadcast schedule populated by shows dealing with Christian healing
crusades, Sikh history and morning mass services. But Alberta Nokes,
Vision's director of independent production, insists otherwise.

Reruns of classic British comedies, such as The Vicar of Dibley, Father Ted
and The Desmonds, have long been part of the network's broadcast schedule,
she notes.

"So Lord Have Mercy was a logical thing to do," says Nokes -- a sitcom more
or less about religion, rooted in the modern-day reality of an urban
Caribbean neighbourhood and dealing with generational conflict.

Focusing on the comic clash between the ambitious, reform-minded but inept
Youth Pastor Gooding (Arnold Pinnock) and his easygoing senior counterpart,
Pastor Cuthbert Stevens (Dennis Hall), the show is the brainchild of
Francis-Anne Solomon, a director and producer with Leda Serene Films, an
independent Toronto-based production company, and Vanz Chapman, a writer
and producer.

A veteran director, Solomon has a British Academy Award to her credit for
Peggy Su (1997).

Chapman, a Canadian Film Centre graduate who earlier wrote CBC's Drop the
Beat, says the creation of Lord Have Mercy followed a traditional evolution
-- months of research into the community, development of a show "bible,"
establishing the main characters and a pilot, made for $150,000 last fall.

"It's a risk," Nokes concedes, "but it's a risk worth taking for three
reasons. The genre has done well on Vision. Our mandate is to focus on
diversity and reflect Canada to Canadians. And it will bring to the screen
a community you hardly ever see on Canadian television."

Indeed, according to Nokes, Lord Have Mercy is the first truly
multicultural sitcom produced in Canada. As such, it's a breakthrough not
only for Vision, in terms of licensing and overseeing a domestic sitcom,
but also for multiculturalism on Canadian television.

Although the streets of Canada's largest urban centres increasingly reflect
a multi-racial, multi-ethnic mosaic, the image of Canadians projected on
television continues to be predominantly white. That makes Lord Have Mercy
"revolutionary, almost," says Julie Crooks, a film director working as a
production associate on the show.

"It's a step forward, definitely. There's a space we all can claim. You
will now see yourself reflected on TV, which is what we all want to see.
You want your children to see themselves -- positive or negative, it's food
for discussion."

That sense of affirmation is also evident behind the camera. Almost every
major position -- the production team, crew, as well as wardrobe, set,
makeup and lighting designers -- is occupied by a person of colour.

The series is being shot live to tape every Friday night for the next 12
weeks.

Umm, to dredge up the past or not? Hmm. Oh, what the heck.

I'm Bonnie Pardoe. Sometimes referred to as "Not The Rutledge." Even
though I was in War 7 and Rutledge wasn't, she's been more visible than me
in more recent years.

Really, it all started with War 7, the infamous war to fix all that TPTB
messed up. I took that concept one step further ... I fixed Vachon's hair
... by hiring a Merc who owned a very sharp pair of scissors, but who didn't
happen to have a valid beautician license. Yes, I was a Vaquero at the
time, the Ardent Vaquero who wrote tons of Vachon fiction and defended
Vachon and Ben's intelligence against all comers! I created the
Vachon/Vaquero website and everything.

Needless to say the Vaqueros at large were not pleased about the
hair-cutting incident. But, in my defense, did you see his hair in 'Ashes
To Ashes'? Something had to done! I was doing him (actually, all of us) a
favor. But, no one knew it was me until the last days of the war when I
finally confessed to Vachon and the Vaquero leaders. I think I'm the only
person in the history of the FK Wars to be bodily tossed out of a faction --
for real, not just for plot purposes. However, it showed me how many
friends I had in all the other factions and, in a way, resulted in me
meeting my boyfriend Alan, a physics grad student (who, coincidentally,
looks rather like the red-headed actor from Highlander).

After that, I was an Independent: I spent War 9 *accidentally* maiming and
killing alternate-universe Vachons. Bad karma, I suppose. War 10 saw me
the victim of one of Alan's time-travel experiments gone horribly wrong,
resulting in a fire in the Physics building at the Toronto University and
leaving me with amnesia. Rutledge found me at one point and brought me to
LaCroix, who took me in when I was confused, alone, and fundless: they gave
me food, shelter, clothes, and even some non-sensible shoes.

In War 11, I thanked Rutledge for her kindness by taking her place in the
Nunkies High Priestess ceremony, but was saved just in time from a fate
worse than death by some old dead mummy guy and a huge sandstorm. I started
out that war as a Ratpacker By Association (just couldn't bring myself to
leap into the sewer with both feet) and then, to repay my dept to LaCroix
for his War 10 kindness, ended up as the new Cousinly Receptionist (in
training). I now dedicate my existence to making LaCroix's life better
through the liberal use of Post-It Notes! Oh, and Alan and I broke up: he
thinks he saw me kissing Nick (not completely true) and that I've lost my
mind by joining the Cousins. But, am happy. Really. I must repay LaCroix
for all that he has done! It's only right and fair. :-D

Wars aside, I'm the person who introduced Libby to Greg Kramer -- yup, it's
my fault! And he's the reason I created www.ScreedWasHere.com, because, you
see, he was -- here. He's been in my house, he's been in my car. I've even
seen him eat garlic in excessive quantities....

So, there you go, that's my FK fandom reputation, tarnishes and all.

Here are some book suggestions for those who like FK but "don't like
vampire fiction".

If you don't like the huge quantities of gore written by Anne Rice,
Laurell K. Hamilton, etc., there are other authors who keep the gore
down to a minimum. Many years ago, I got hooked on Fred Saberhagen's
Dracula. This series starts with _The Dracula Tape_, which tells Bram
Stoker's story from the Dracula's point of view of. (The series
continues on through a number of historic settings, from renaissance
Italy to revolutionary France to Victorian London to the modern day.)
This is a Dracula who is neither evil nor nice.

Also, if you enjoy historical fiction, try Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's "St.
Germain Chronicles" series. Sometimes St. Germain is the most human
character in the entire book, despite being a vampire.

And finally, you'll probably enjoy the books by fellow FK fan P.N. "Pat"
Elrod. Her series features Jack Fleming, who is an entirely different
kind of vampire detective. It's set in Chicago in the 1930's. And she's
recently started a new series with _Quincy Morris, Vampire_ for the true
Dracula fans. (Like me.)

Your very humble & most obedient servant,
Ligeia

P.S. Saberhagen's latest novel, _A Coldness in the Blood_, is now
available from Amazon in hardcover.

Subject: My introduction to Forever Knight.

I knew FK existed long before I watched it . but at the time I had no
interest in seeing a program about vampires. Vampires for the most part
bored me. For people who could live forever, they ever didn't seem to
find much to do much with their time. They hunted or were hunted and that
was about it.

Anyway back to FK. While checking the TV listings about another program, I
found myself reading the write up under Forever KNight. and started
to become intrigued. Even so I still didn't watch it since A it
conflicted with another program I wanted to watch and tape and B. I had
a sneaking suspician that if I ever did decide to watch it I would become
hooked on it.

then one week my regular program was preempted. On impulse I
decided to tape FK instead. I think it was the first episode of the
third season. There had been a long article in the paper the sunday before
about the changes and I thought I would take a look at it.

Of course that was the night I made a mistake programming my VCR (set it
for AM not PM). Consequently I didn't tape FK. But since I really wasn't
that interested I didn't particularly care. Then the program I had
been watching went off the air so I tried again. This time I did it right
and I saw the episode Hearts of Darkness Not really the best episode
to start off with. However I was intrigued enough by the concept to try
again the next week. The next episode went better ( at least I figured
out who Nick was and what they were doing.) To my amazement these
vampires actually did things. They didn't chose to remain just
bystanders, they played active roles throughout history. Nick in his way.
LaCroix in his.

After that I chased it around the dial quite literally. Some weeks it was
on twice . Other weeks it was only on if the station had a gap they needed
to fill in their schedule. Just when I thought I had figured out the method
in their programming they took it off the air half way through the last
season. Fortunately by that time I had found it on another station so
I was able to see all the third season shows before they too cancelled it.

It wasn't until Showcase put it on a year or more later that I
finally got to see the first two seasons.

It couldn't have come back into my life at a better time. My mother was in
the hospital at the time. I visited her in the afternoon, came home and
relaxed in front of forever Knight.

Could I recommend one? I just read a book called
FOREVER AND A NIGHT...darn forgot the author's name
but her last name is Miller. It's about a woman named
Neely who falls in love with a vampire named Aidan
who's reluctant, like Nick. He eventually goes before
the Council of Elders and manages to regain his
mortality, but the vampires take away both their
memories so they have to find each other again. Aidan
was told by a gypsy some time ago that a woman would
either be his damnation or his salvation. I found it
while browsing and was attracted because of the
similar title.

as the charactersr at times. Maybe there's a fic in
there somewhere LOL)

I just started watching back in June. I'd started
watching Ger on Tracker and was flipping the onscreen
guide when I came accross FK. I'm also a huge Due
South fan and recalled that Callum Keith Rennie guest
starred on an ep so I decided to see if that one was
going to be on. (that was before I knew about Daniel
Kash and Katherine Bruhier being on there also)I saw
Ger's name on the synopsis and at first thought he was
also a guest star but then realized that he was the
star. The first ep I recall seeing was Queen of Harps.

My mom and I used to fight over the TV a bit because
there were some programs she liked on at the same
time, but now she says she's starting to like FK.
Although I always have to laugh when she calls LaCroix
'wierdo'. It's all too frequent now 'oh there's the

My story is like Susan's (snipped bit below). I read about the "Nick Knight"
movie in the local paper and made sure I both taped and watched it. I was
already into vampires - I was semi-goth - and the idea of a vampire cop made
perfect sense to me. When I found out about the series I think I'd only
missed a couple shows of the 1st season. I taped it religiously, and my
friends knew not to invite me out on Tuesday nights cuz I was
watching/taping Forever Knight. I was kinda online (BBS's and local chat
boards) but I didn't actually look for FK related stuff on the 'net until I
saw Last Knight. I had to find out if that was really "the end"! Luckily,
I found out that LK never happend. =) And I've been lurking pretty much
ever since.

With me, the first qyestion is, which one? :)

Reputation 1: I'm sure that during my first stint as listowner a number of
us thought I must be a cross between Hitler and Attila the Hun, plus
brandishing a bullwhip. <g> This was because FK was in syndication and
therefore some listers saw it before others. There were strict rules about
when an episode could first be discussed. I admit I did a lot shouting and
stamping and in a few cases enforcing by nomailing culprits for set periods

For personal reasons I was under considerable stress and I have to admit it
showed in my management style.

Reputation 2: War time crazy drunk on Fkfic-l. This started about 3 wars
down the line because I wanted a reason why I would be simultaneously
defying LaCroix, Nick and Susan Garrett's Dorian the Archivist, plus the
Enforcers. I'm actually a rather quiet person -- quit laughing, those of you
who've seen me at cons. Sleep deprivation always hits me like too much
alcohol. Anyway, the only way I could imagine my persona doing anything so
dangerous would be if I was tipsy. The rest is history.

In two of the wars since then, I haven't played with the Cousins and haven't
been fictionally plastered. The first time I had hit my head while
introducing about a thousand glowing pink rats into CERK. Only when I was
drunk did I think I was a cat who thought I was human. No, don't try to
understand. It only works in war time. :) The second time, I'd hit my head
again while bargaining with Screed and spent the war believing myself to be
a Ratpacker.

Although I always have to laugh when she calls LaCroix
'wierdo'. It's all too frequent now 'oh there's the
wierdo' LOLOLOL>>>>

Ah, the first stages of adoration.Next she'll say well he's weird but good
looking. Then she'll say he has a nice voice for a weirdo and look at those
beautiful hands and those lips and er...... sorry that's how it happened for
me. <g>

Subject: Re: My introduction to Forever Knight

I've been reading all of the posts from folks who became FK fans but weren't
interested in vampires. My experience is quite different. I was a fan of
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's St. Germaine and I loved Frank Langella as Dracula. I
also enjoyed Michael Nouri in Dracula 79. I'd been reading vampire fiction
for years and I loved the atmosphere of Hammer films. I didn't watch Dark
Shadows first run because my Mom thought it wasn't for children and she
didn't like soaps.
When I first saw Forever Knight, I remember being at my grandparent's house,
(I spent summers with them from childhood through my college years)and
sneaking out of their guest house to watch TV. They went to sleep early and
I was tring to be quiet.I turned to CBS because I'd heard they were airing a
new vampire show. The first scene I remember seeing was of Nick stopping the
bus in I think it's "Last Act"? I also saw a few other scattered scenes from
that ep and from "Dance by the light of the Moon" and I didn't like it at
all. It was too cops and robbers, too modern. I wanted old fashion vamps. I
wanted sexual and gothic appeal and i just didn't see any of that. So I
stopped watching.I could kick myself now because I realize that I was
catching it first run! I saw bits and peices as time progressed but I can't
remember what. I do remember that I thought the older weird guy with the
crew-cut was kind of interesting but physically not my type. I was into dark
haired blue eyed englishmen at that point being a Jeremy Brett (Sherlock
Holmes) fan and I also thought the weird guy did a bad fake English accent
LOL (Yes these were delusional days for me). Some time later I was flipping
channels and saw that FK was on USA so i tried it again. TPTB were
determined that I would like this show! I started to watch it and I started
to like it. When I started to tape it I knew i was hooked. I liked Nick. He
was cute and I felt sad for him. What struck me the most though was the
strong female leads. Natalie
was smart and beautiful and tough. Cohen was a tough no nonsense police
chiefand Janette while outwardly glamorous was secretely a predator. They
weren't whiney damsels in distress and i loved that.I watched and i liked.I
finally lost my mind when I saw "A More Permanant Hell".Was that the weird
guy?In toga? (tunic, yes i know now)His voice is soooo and those eyes
and....He's a villain but there's something else. What's his motivation for
treating Nick like that? Ok I'm definately intersted in him. I followed FK
to the Sci-fi channel and must admit that I hated the 3rd season at first.I
didn't start liking it until 'Night in Question'. Janette and Schankewere
gone and i didn't like the new Vampires at all. I thought Tracy was a weak
whiny female. And the next thing you know everyone is whiny and angsty
including my once strong Natalie, but i still watched. I didn't start to
like Tracy or the other vamps until I discovered the fanfiction...
My first experience with net fandom was in '94. I went to Dad's house and
used his new computer. I'd never been online before and his comp was
mercilessly slow. I looked up Forever Knight and that's when I realized that
there was a whole new world to be discovered.I wouldn't have access to this
world until '97 when i got my own computer.Dad's was for business only.
blah. In '97 I discovered FK fan fiction. I've never read such wonderful fic
in my life. Most of it was well written and well thought of.Other fandoms
weren't as tightly knit and respectful as FK fans. I didn't join a list
until "98 and then I only lurked. I saw so many names that were by now
famous or infamous<g> in FK and I was shy as hell and quite in awe. I joined
NA because I loved the personalities of the people on the list. Both
Bonnies, Libby, KC (Nixx) and all of the others who had me laughing myself
to peices whenever i felt like crying instead. I didn't really delurk much
until I joined the Nigel Bennett list and was persuaded by many to come out
and play. I, as of now, do not have an FK reputation that I know of but I'll
keep trying. <g>
