If I'm not mistaken, I believe this was done in a fanfic. Does anyone else
know for sure?

Obviously everybody has their own opinion and, of course, the real LaCroix *is*
Nigel, but I wouldn't go so far as to insult Michael Nader like that. He
happens to be a great actor in his own right. Also, as much as my hubby
respects and enjoys watching Nigel, he still insists that Michael was the
better actor for that part (no, I don't agree. Not better just different; as
different as Rick and Ger.).

That's "Monkey in the Middle" By Susan Bennett; it was posted on the
NNAdult list in eight parts in late March, 2000.

Thanks! Does anyone have a copy of 'Monkey In The Middle' that they can
send me? I can't find it archived anywhere.
I'd appreciate it!

Just when you think that Forever Knight can't give you one more thing to
think about, along comes Klytaimnestra with this pondering.

For my money, I really don't think Parriot had an overall 'vision' of
Forever Knight, but FK did seem to take on a life of its own and create its
own vision. In that vision--with apologies to all those who might disagree
with me--LaCroix was right: with his sympathy for mortals and his yearning
to become one of them, Nick was on a path to self-destruction.

Quite sometime ago, Vampwrtr and I were discussing that FK can be viewed two
ways: 1) as a romance between Nick and Nat, or 2) as a commentary on the
human condition. We agreed that we both opted for the second viewpoint. FK
asks us, "what does it mean to be 'human'?" In many ways, Nick was more
'human' than the mortals around him.

That would make it a sort of temporal anthology series... I think that's
been done already...

Just if anyone is curious all egroup messages can be found on the egroups
website. Most groups require that you be a member to see them, but if you
are ever in need of a past message sign up and you can look there (and
search with their really horrible search engine).

Hi fellow Knight-fans,

Just read some important stuff from the chat with Thomas Vitalie. See

Thomas is Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Scheduling, and Program
Planning at SCI FI. He's been with the channel since early '93, joining only
a few months after SCI FI launched. He's worked with the team here to help
the channel grow from a small network with only older product, to its
current status as a network with more and more original fare.

Thomas-Vitale: fall, including original series.

Moderator: <Eternal> Most fans don't write letters directly to the show or
the station. Do you ever visit the websites put up by fans to see what they
like about the show or what direction they'd like a character or story to

Thomas-Vitale: I do read fan websites, as do the show producers and the other
programmers and marketers here...

Thomas-Vitale: Every one e-mail and letter adds up.

Thomas-Vitale: When Dark Shadows was pulled for one year

Thomas-Vitale: we got over three thousand letters

Thomas-Vitale: the letters were why we returned DS to the station

Letters, e-mail, everything adds up to get TPTB's attention. Please,
everyone, write Sci-fi (if you want, put attention Thomas Vitale) and lets
have thousands of postcards sent to USA and Sci-fi regarding FK for
Christmas. The more the better, so please at least e-mail them.

Go to my page and click on "Save the Knight" for all the e-mail addresses
and places to send your letters.

Let's get Forever Knight Kickstarted!

I'm resending this with McLisa's permission, because not everyone got it,
and it didn't make it onto the digest. - Laurel

Now that Showtime and VTV have stopped showing Forever Knight I find that
I've achieved some distance from the show, and can see the whole series as a
single work, with a beginning and end. I saw a reference to the original
"Forever Knight" movie a couple of weeks back on this list, that apparently
Alyce Hunter is the love interest whom Nick drains of blood (?) - or does
LaCroix drain her of blood? - and Nick kills LaCroix and stands over Alyce'
body as the credits roll up.

But whoever killed Alyce, and you can tell from my synopsis that I haven't
seen the movie, the last scene of "Nick Knight" and the last scene of
"Forever Knight" have some obvious points in common. A dead woman and a
dead vampire, and one vampire left standing. Of course I know that Sony
wouldn't allow Parriot/Borchiver/whoever to make it as clear as they wanted
to make it that Nick & Nat were dead as doornails, so we are free to believe
that they aren't quite dead yet, and I do.

But now that I grasp that that's how Parriott ended the movie, it makes
perfect sense to me that that's how he wanted to end the series. As far as
he was concerned, the story was, vampires and mortals don't mix, vampires
can only bring disaster to mortals, even nice vampires who want to be cured,
and too close contact between vampires and mortals will result, one way or
another, in dead mortals certainly, and dead vampires possibly. As far as
Parriott was concerned, the series NATURALLY ended with the death of Natalie
and Nick; that was the way his vision of the FK universe worked.

As a corollary, all the guilt Nick feels about people who die because they
get too close to him, that we (and Natalie) think is completely misplaced,
perhaps Parriott didn't think it was misplaced. Nick was right. Anyone who
gets too close to him dies, because vampires are inherently dangerous to
humans, period.

So all of the reassurance Nick gets in the show that he's not dangerous,
really, is misplaced. He was wrong and Lacroix was right. The best thing
he could have done was leave town a lot sooner than he did.

I'm not saying I agree with this, but is it an acceptable reading of the
whole series? Was Parriott in fact a lot more negative, all along, than I
would have guessed when I was watching it episode by episode?
