Hi

Many of my on line friends have continued to ask me how Kenn (my husband is
doing). As I said in my previous post Kenn is a lieutenant with the Port
Authority Police. I was very lucky. He had set up his command post outside
while many of his coworkers set theirs up inside. They are all gone, he is
still here.

Kenn is working 18 hour days at this moment. I have not seen him since
Wednesday when he popped in to get clothes, shower and take a quick nap.

My husband is currently running the office of emergency response for the PA
police. Kenn is only one of approximently 700 Certified Emergency Managers in
the United States. Thank God the PA is utilizing him in the proper way. Kenn
had done numerous training courses in "Incident Command" and has been at the
scene of many other disasters.

He really is a "hero" to me and me and my family are so proud.

I also wanted to thank my on line family for all the wonderful expressions of
concern both on line and off line.

This was too close for me. My son repairs computers for the Port Authority
on the 65th floor of tower #2. He was to be there at 8:00am. His car
stalled on the LIE inbound at 7:45am. It took him over an hour to get a tow
truck. He just missed being there.

My older son was working on the other tower in Windows On The World Rest.
for the past six months. He was just transferred off that job on the 6th.

With God's grace, both my sons were saved. I grieve deeply for all those who
did not survive.

Bill is okay. He and his foreman, who happens to be an EMT went to the site
to help out. Right now the two guys are home resting. But I don't know for
how long.
Thanks for your kind thoughts.
My biggest problem right now is with my youngest son. The one who was to
work there that morning, he's suffering from survivors guilt.

I want to say publicly that I'm sure I'm not the only one in our FK family
who wants to say "Kenn is not only a 'hero' to you and your family, but to
ALL of us." The men and women who are working despite the danger to
themselves at both the WTC and the Pentagon, are heroes of the bravest sort.

When you next see him, give us a hug from each of us (well, maybe ONE

I live in Tampa and we have Macdill AFB here. On the international hit list,
it is just about 2 down from the White House as a good target for the
palestinians to hit because this is where most of the activity goes on
during war time.
Also, Tropical Storm Gabrielle didn't hit us all too bad, mostly way south
of here in Sarasota county. I was wondering when I would finally get a storm
named after me.... ;)

Subject: A little silliness

I don't know about anyone else, but I desperately needed some amusement
today, after the way the week has been going, so I composed this little bit
of almost-on-topic silliness.

After everything that's been going on, I've found myself looking for ways to
get away from the outside world. This week, for the first time in a while, I
played The Sims. For those of you who don't know, The Sims is basically a
little virtual world where you create people and prompt them to eat, sleep,
get jobs, buy furniture, fall in love, get married, start families, etc.
It's really quite a fun little escapist activity, and the amount of choice
you have is pretty impressive--you can also go online and get "skins"--new
faces, clothing, and body shapes for your sims. You can also create your
own, with a bit of practice; you can even take photographs of people and
give your Sims their faces.

So today, I decided to take the plunge. I created two Sims, Nick Knight and
Natalie Lambert. I "built" their faces and outfits, installed them in their
own separate little apartments (I had fun trying to chase down the
accoutrements for Nick's loft, including the fireplace, piano, etc.). I
even, thanks to a certain little cheater program I have, managed to give
Nick his near-limitless wealth and increased strength--I also gave him a
healthy dose of charisma, for obvious reasons. ;) The same program allowed
me to give him a job as a police detective, and Natalie one in the medical
profession. Then I sat back, prepared to watch the magic happen.

Alas, such was not to be.

First of all, SimNick refused to bathe. I couldn't figure out why. This went
on for days. Whenever he tried to hug SimNatalie, she held her nose and they
lost five points off their relationship. (Finally, I took the windows out of
the bathroom. They were privacy windows, which were supposed to be okay in
the bathroom, but apparently SimNick was getting a bit too much sunlight in
there.)

Once I finally got that sorted out there were the other Sim
females--apparently giving SimNick all that charisma wasn't such a good
idea. They were practically banging down his door, wandering around after
him with little hearts over their heads. (Some of them were
previously-happily-married Sims too. Among the male Sims, SimNick is not
well-liked.) And don't think he didn't do anything to encourage them
either--he kept hugging them and kissing them on the cheek.

Meanwhile, SimNatalie sat at home, seething with jealousy but not wanting to
admit it. SimNick, being a night-owl, would call her at odd hours, to which
she would reply, "You have some nerve!" and hang up. When at last he
convinced her to drop by for a visit, they did get along famously, although,
true to his namesake, SimNick didn't have any food in the apartment, and
SimNatalie was obviously very hungry. They sat together on the couch and
watched horror shows on SimNick's big-screen television for what seemed like
hours before sharing a relatively chaste kiss goodbye. Feeling a bit left
out by all this independent action (I didn't tell them to do any of this!),
I decided to take control of the game again. Since their relationship had
reached the allowable level for it, I thought I'd have a little fun, so I
had SimNick propose. SimNatalie's response? "You can't expect me to make a
decision like that on an empty stomach. Goodbye."

There's a fanfic in all of this somewhere. ;)

I cried too when I saw news clips of this. To see a Cathedral

admittedly a rather difficult melody (and must be especially so for
anyone not learning it during childhood) just to comfort us Americans,
left me in tears of appreciation for their thoughtfulness and show of

Hi all,
With all the recent messages about the happenings in America I have come
to realise just how wide spread the FK community is, and have thought
about putting up a new page on my site with a map of the world showing
just where FK fans are located by city. Does something like this already
exist? If not would there be any interest from all you FK fans this
project?

Subject: ADMIN: New Topic Announcement

Lisa and I have decided to setup a new topic for Fiction based on or dealing
with the tragic events of September 11. Some people may find it helpful to
be able to express their feelings through the writing or reading of fiction.
This topic is designed to provide a forum for those members of the Forever
Knight community who wish to do so, and at the same time allow those who do not
wish to read such fiction to avoid it.

We all deal with our grief in different ways and need to be considerate of
each other's differences. If we allow the hatred that led to these acts to
infect us we only validate that hatred. Yes we grieve, yes we are angry, and
yes we demand justice. These are reasonable and legitimate feelings.
However, let us not descend into blind hatred - let us instead grow to an
understanding of the community of humanity. The world grieves with us -
people all around the globe and of every religion share our pain. We must
repudiate these unconscionable acts of hatred by denying hate a home in
our hearts.

The new topic is SEP11: and works the same as the WAR: or ADULT:
topics. By default no one is set to receive the new topic. To receive the
SEP11: topic, you must send a message to the listserver containing the
following commands:

       SET FKFIC-L TOPICS: +SEP11
       SET FORKNI-L TOPICS: +SEP11

Messages must have the topic SEP11: (with the colon) as the very first item
on the subject line. Otherwise, the Listserver will not recognize the topic
header.

As always, fiction only to FKFIC-L and discussion of that fiction to FORKNI-
L. Lisa and I will be lenient about the topicality of the fiction, but please
confine discussion to discussing the fiction - not a general discussion of the
events of, and following, September 11. All other list rules apply as usual.

If you have any questions or need a hand, please drop me a line.

FORKNI-L RULES

1. No flames on list. FLAMERS MAY BE SET NOPOST. THE NOPOST
MAY BE PERMANENT.

2. Please don't quote more than four lines of a previous post in replying.
If you have more than one point to answer, then you may quote the
relevant four lines for that point also.

3. Limit sigs to 6 lines. This includes all information, decoration
quotations and blank lines. Your name and address count as part of
the six. If you sign your name on a separate line above the body of text,
your name and the blank line or lines between count as part of the six
line limit. If you have one of those services that insists on putting an
advertising tag on the end of posts, don't worry. We realize you can't
control that and it doesn't count as part of your sig.

4. Please don't send to the whole list when you are only talking to the
person who wrote the post you are answering.

5. Advertising on list is on a case by case basis. Please consult the
listowners, Lisa McDavid, <mclisa@m.......> or Don Fasig,
<Argent@e.......> for permission.

6. This list is for the discussion of Forever Knight. Cast, crew, staff
and producers in connection with what they're doing now or have done in the
past are ok. So are list members' FK- fannish activities and
arrangements to meet. Cons should only be announced on Forkni-l if someone
from the show is appearing, or if you're going to be there. Non-FK vampires,
or vampires in general, are _NOT_ ok. Vampyres@t....... does that.
McLisa can tell you how to subscribe.

7. Off-topic posts are _NOT_ allowed, no matter what they are about or how
urgent the warning may appear. If you have an off-topic post which you
think should appear on the list, ask one of the owners for permission.

8. The private lives of the cast are not a discussion topic. Occasionally
one of the fan club presidents will make an announcement, but other
than that, we leave the cast their privacy.

9. Only fan club presidents or other designated spokespeople may
make announcements of future projects for FK cast, crew and staff,
before said projects have been released or written about in the media.

10. No role-playing on Forkni-l. This includes no character names as
pseudonyms or posing as a character.

11. Each subscriber is limited to five posts per day on Forkni-l.
