I can't remember, which ep had the clairvoyant woman that helped Nick and
Schenke find a kidnapped daughter before her father had her killed? And
what was the name of the clairvoyant?

But I'm thinking of the Queen in "Through the Looking Glass." The Queen in
"Wonderland" wasn't the Red Queen, but the Queen of Hearts (which just happen to
be red...).

Hey, folks... wasn't the queen in Alice in Wonderland from a deck of
cards??? She was the Red Queen of Hearts, not a chess piece.

In the Disney movie, she was the Queen of Hearts, but I think in the book,
she was a chess piece. It's been a LOOOONG time since I read it, so I could
be mistaken. Seems like Alice was going back and forth between the red
queen and the white queen for a while, but the ol' memory chip may be faulty.

There are two observation levels people can go to, but neither is the
very very tippy-top it sounds like you're talking about--that's all
broadcast antennae & stuff.

The larger "knob" about 2/3 the way up is where the revolving restaurant
and bar are, with two levels, and you can go outdoors to the railed
gallery surrounding it. If I remember correctly, the lower of these two
levels is where you can stand on a glass floor and look straight down
between your feet! Much coolness.

The smaller, higher "knob" (another elevator, slight additional ticket
cost) is also an observation deck; I can't remember off the top of my
head whether it has an outside gallery or not. (It's been about 6 years
since I was up there.) I'm sure one of the informational sites somebody
posted earlier would have that information somewhere.

I can't really tell from looking at the ep, but my best guess is that
Nick and Serena were on the larger, lower deck, for the simple reason
that it would be tricky to get all the camera & lighting equipment
arranged on the upper one. Even though it doesn't look like that it
would be that high when you look at the tower from a distance, believe
me, it's *plenty* high to qualify as "higher than high". The view is
*phenomenal* (this coming from someone who grew up within spitting
distance of the Colorado Rockies). And you can tell the difference in
your distance from the ground between the restaurant level and the
way-up observation deck, but not as much as you might expect.

I retract that statement. Just looked it up on the net, and even in the
book, she was indeed the Queen of Hearts.

The stories are apparently in a frame. What you need to do is right click in
the screen and then click on "open frame in new window" (using Internet Explorer,
that is, but I suspect Netscape and other browsers have a similar way to open
a frame in a new window). Then you can just save the story as text (or html,
if the story is in that format).

No, you were right -- there were 2 books about Alice by Carrol: "Alice's
Adventures in Wonderland" which dealt with a pack of cards, and "Through
the Looking Glass" which delt with Alice's interactions with various
chesspieces. She had to make her way across a landscape designed to look
like a chessboard; her goal was to become a Queen. Along the way she
received advice (not very good advice) from both the testy Red Queen and
the ineffectual White Queen. It is in this story that she met the White
Knight, the garden of talking flowers, and (I believe) Tweedledum and
Tweedledee. The first story had the Mad Hatter's tea party, the cheshire
cat, the Duchess and the Pig baby, the Queen of Hearts (and the Knave of
Hearts who was accused of stealing her tarts), and the Mock Turtle. (As you
can imagine, I read these stories a number of times growing up! "g")

All of this is *really* making me want to watch "C&C" again. Does anyone
know more corellaries between the show and the stories? Nat was supposed
to represent the Red Queen? How do you get that? Other things?

Subject: Be My Valentine script excerpts

First, thanks Judy for posting script excerpts from BMV. I enjoyed reading
them.

In both of these instances, Nat is described as falling under LC's spell
*before* drinking anything.

>She takes as sip. Hmm, this is good stuff. She sips again. Lacroix watches,
>is there something in the champagne perhaps? Then:

This sounds like Nat might be wondering if there is something in the
champagne rather than a statement that there is something in it.

>NATALIE
>(another sip)

If Nat was wondering about the champagne, why take another sip? This
might be further evidence that Nat was being whammied.

>Lacroix nods, refills her glass. She sips some more during:

Again, Nat doesn't seem suspicious of the champagne anymore. This
could also be just evidence that LC wanted her in a more "relaxed" mood.
Getting Nat tipsy could help lower her defenses too, without the use of
any "drugs".

>NATALIE
>(a little buzzed)

A little drunk?

>He's laying it on, whatever "it" is, and we see her slowly succumbing.

This seems to imply mental manipulation -- the whammy.

>(drowsy sensuality)

She's a Nunkies addict. ;)

>Natalie is regaining a portion of her senses, but is still far from
>clear-headed. She opens her eyes, puts her hand on the table to steady
>herself, knocks over a glass... doesn't seem to notice.

Wouldn't this imply that Nat *wasn't* drugged? At least it seems to me
that she wouldn't start coming out of a drugged state so soon.

I find it interesting that from here on in we are shown a Nat who is much
more "aware" than she appeared to be on the actual episode. She is
able to talk and everything.

>It's obvious that Nick has made sure Natalie remembers nothing of their brief
>romance.

Wasn't obvious to me watching it.

While I do appreciate being able to read these sections of the script, my
view on what is "canon" has always been what is shown to us on screen.
The average viewer has to depend on what he sees since that average
viewer doesn't normally have access to any scripts.

I still don't think there's enough evidence that Nat was drugged in what was
shown on TV.

Thanks Portia, for straightening that out. The ep C&C must be based more on
the second book, then. I think Nat made a good Red Queen, and Nick is the
white knight of course. Isn't there even a scene where Nick or LaCroix look
through a looking glass or window? I have got to watch this one again.

Subject: reminder of GK in THE HOBBIT

Just a reminder that Greg "Screed" Kramer will be in THE HOBBIT at Young
Peoples Theatre in Toronto. We are planning a "Mission GK 2000" to see Greg
in the play on Saturday, November 11 at 7 p.m.

I'll be ordering the tickets for THE HOBBIT early next week, probably MONDAY.
These are for those who know they are going to Mission GK 2000 on Nov. 11
and want to sit "as a group." The theater is NOT set up so that we can
purchase our tickets separately and still be guaranteed to sit together (it
is reserved seating). This does NOT mean that if you are still just
considering going that you won't be able to attend. You will simply be
responsible for buying your own ticket. Since there'll be a room party before
we all go to the 7 p.m. show, we'll be able to pre-arrange a meeting place
afterwards.

NO PROMISES, but last time Greg did join us fannish types afterwards for a
late night snack.

Please e-mail me off-list if you have questions, want more info, want to
arrange for me to get you a ticket (you'll pay for it, of course - $28
CANADIAN so it will be less for those of us in the US).

After having perused what I posted so hurriedly and wincing at each and

beta before I reveal more about what that griffin took from Nick.

So.. wanna beta anybody. <g>
