Subject: Knight School - Ep107 - False Witness

(Sorry this is sooooo late, I just realized how long it's been since I
posted one of these. I'll try to keep up next time.)

Forever Knight, Nick Knight, and the episodes described aren't mine, they
belong to Sony/Tri-Star and no copyright infringement is intended. Thus,
anyone can archive them, but I would appreciate a link back at my FK site
(http://www.naturesong.com/raven) and credit for writing the summary.

All Knight School Episode summaries are my own interpretatations and are
archived at http://www.naturesong.com/raven/episodes.htm

Special thanks to Billie-Lee for making this all possible (my tapes and FKC
idea), and McLisa for going along with it. Additions and corrections
welcome.

Knight School
Episode: 107 False Witness

Scene: A warehouse
Pete (an informer) and Kocak (a bad guy) are watching a movie and discussing
the actress. The informer tries to get the bad guy to talk about a girl
named Betty and Pete (the informer) is acting suspicious to the bad guy.
Outside, Nick and Schanke in the stakeout get nervous. Inside the warehouse
the bad guy throws a drink on the informer, wipes him off and finds the
wire. They struggle and the gun goes off. Nick blasts through the window
and arrests the bad guy. The informer is dead on the floor.

At the crime scene, they take the informers body away and Nick is blaming
himself for the death (as usual). Schanke tries to help relieve the guilt,
but it doesn't stick. The cops are searching the place for information.
Schanke starts to blame himself for the death too and describes how they
have been trying to nail the bad guy since Nick "showed up from wherever he
showed up from."

Nick confesses to Stonetree that he saw the bad guy kill the informer (but
he was in flight at the time). Stonetree thanks Nick and they drag him (the
bad guy) away.

The next night Nick comes into the bullpen and there is a party going on,
for Nick, because he witnesses the crime and they think they're about to
nail the bad guy for good. The crown prosecutor shows up to get Nick's
statement and he goes into the office to do so. She records it with one of
those reel-to-reel tape decks. In the bullpen, Natalie arrives and joins
the party.

Nick begins to explain to the prosecutor how he climbed the fence and ran
across the yard to get to the warehouse. He then went up the stairs and
witnessed the gunfight. He claims that the bad guy (Kocak) pulled the
trigger just as he entered. He is adamant about this and the prosecutor
seems satisfied and sends him on his way.

In the bullpen Natalie questions Nick about the shooting, how he got there,
etc. She warns him that perjury is a crime. Nick flashes back to a trial
where a man is being tried for a murder.

Back at the loft, Nick gets a message that he has to appear in court on the
15th at 10 A.M., "bright and early". A sudden look of horror crosses his
face.

At the precinct, Nick tries to convince Stonetree to let him videotape his
testimony and send it in. Stonetree refuses on the grounds that without
Nick's testimony they won't be able to put the bad guy away.

Schanke and Nick are driving down the road and Schanke has a bag of sun
block lotions, he's going through them as they drive. He finally agrees to
buy one of the sun blocks.

They arrive to question one of the girls who worked with the bad guy. She
comes out in some kind of silvery rubber dress. She denies knowing anything
about the bad guy killing Betty. It's a rather dead end and they leave. As
they do, Nick confesses to Schanke that he didn't really *see* the bad guy
murdered the victim. Schanke tells him, "so what?" and to just worry about
putting the bad guy away.

Back at the bullpen, Schanke is staring into space. Stonetree asks if
something is wrong and Schanke rattles on about how the job stinks, it's so
hard to get people to trust the cops and perps who get off on
technicalities. Stonetree begs off the conversation due to lack of sleep.

Nick wakes up in a huff, flashing back to when he crashed through the window
of the warehouse. He gets up and Schanke has arrived. He is still ranting
about heroes and bad guys. Nick asks if Schanke "overdosed on a six foot
souvlaki", and he brushes it off. Schanke tries to bolster Nick's
confidence, despite the fact that he didn't really see the bad guy shoot the
informant, and then he leaves to get ready for the trial.

Nick sucks down large quantities of his bovine special and flashes back to a
time when Nick, LaCroix and Janette arrived at an inn or tavern. They
watched a street player playing a violin. Nick is enchanted with her. She
is playing with another young man.

The players stop playing and Nick and LaCroix start to discuss music.
Beyond, Janette walks off with the girl.

Nick finally notices the girl is gone and goes to find her. He discovers
Janette bent over the now drained body of the girl. Janette takes off and
the young man shows up and holds the dead girl. Someone screams and assumes
he is the killer.

Back in the loft, Nick drinks down the glass of wine.

Daylight. Nat is driving the caddy to the parking garage of the courthouse
with Nick in the trunk. They park and Nick gets out. Nat convinces Nick
that everything from there to the courthouse is either underground or inside
with no windows. The courthouse has Venetian blinds "that even radiation
couldn't' get through".

In the courtroom, Nat looks around dubiously. He flashes back to the trial
of the boy and then back to the present. Stonetree tells Nick that the
defense is going to prove that Nick is lying. Beyond him, someone opens the
blinds and sunlight streams in.

The bad guy is on the stand giving his statement. He claims he was set up.

Nick flashes back to the boy's trial and Nick's testimony that the boy did
not kill the girl player and back to the present. Back and forth the
conversations go, past and present. They call a recess and Schanke tries to
bolster Nick's failing confidence again.

Finally, it's Nick's turn on the stand. He gets on and places his hand on
the bible to swear. His hand burns with the image of the cross on the
cover. He moves it quickly and sits down. He gives his statement about
taping the informer's conversation and staking out the situation. Nick goes
through the same story he gave the other prosecutor. The fence is then
described as a ten-foot fence and the field beyond as the "length of a
football field". They needle him about when he actually heard the shot.
They don't believe he could possibly have done it in the time he did.
Supposedly they hired an Olympic decathlon athlete to run the same course
and it took him 4 minutes. According to his testimony, Nick did it in just
over 2 minutes.

"Did you really see it?" the prosecutor needles Nick. The sunlight creeps
up on him and flashbacks whirl through his mind.

"No," he finally says, "No, I didn't actually see it."

They then dismiss the case against the bad guy amid disappointed cries from
the courtroom. Nick sits in the witness box and angsts.

Somewhere else, Janette and Nick are talking about mortals, their laws and
such. Nick confesses that he's not exactly welcome around the police
station anymore. Janette tries to convince him to go with her away, to
Paris, to forget the mortals. Nick says it will "help him find his soul"
and Janette brushes it off, claiming he lost his soul with LaCroix brought
him over. Nick flashes back to "killing" <cough> LaCroix. Janette tells
him that he's "pathetic. You want to belong? You belong to no one, not us,
not them..." then she walks away telling him, "You're not even true to
yourself." Nick looks somewhat crestfallen and he heads back to the
station.

Nobody even acknowledges his presence when he arrives, except Stonetree.
Nick talks with him about the situation, the silent treatment. Nick wants a
warrant and he is told that Kocak has a civil suit in the works. Nick says
it isn't for Kocak.

Flying through the city, Nick arrives at the warehouse. The girl they
questioned before is in dominatrix gear. She is whipping and teasing none
other than Kocak. Nick arrives and listens to the conversation. The girl
pulls out videotape and says they could watch some "dirty movies" with Betty
in them. She pulls out a tape and Kocak says, "You made me kill her..." As
soon as he sees the tape he tries to grab it from her. He holds her down
and rips the tape out of her hand. Nick barges in and tries to protect her.
Kocak shoots and she falls down. Nick calls the shooting in and Kocak
flees. Nick flys over the car and drops down in front of his headlights.
He bares his fangs and the guy drives off the road to avoid Nick and runs up
an embankment, bringing him to a halt. Nick rips off the car's door and
pulls Kocak out and arrests him. Kocak says, "I saw that bullet right
through you," and Nick says, "Try saying that in court."

Back at the loft, Nick and Nat are watching a movie and Nat is crying. Nick
laughs at her for crying at "a forty foot gorilla". Nat asks if the rest of
the world has forgiven him for telling the truth, then she asks about the
violin player. Nick says he was sentenced to death but that someone managed
to break into his jail cell and he escaped. He ended up playing for some
symphony somewhere.

Nat starts to pick at the popcorn and when she looks up Nick flashes her
with his fangs. She screams and throws popcorn at him. (The famous popcorn
scene :-) He just smiled.

Questions:

1. Do you think Janette killed the girl in the flashback because she was
jealous of the attention Nick was showing her? If not, why did she do it
then?

2. Amazingly enough, Nick and LaCroix seemed to be getting along in the
flashbacks. What do you think brought that on?

3. Did you think the dominatrix bit was overdone any?

4. At the end do you think Janette still wanted Nick to accept himself, or
had she given up by then?

5. Do you think the sunscreen would have actually helped any?

I think she was jealous, because she loves Nick you know.

LaCroxic was just talking to Nick in the flashback. You can't really tell
if they really were getting along at the time or not.

 No, not really.
>

I Doubt Janette would ever give up. Like every time he goes to see her at
the Raven she shows him uman blood or drinks it herself or even sometimees
ask him if he wants any. She was just a little mad at him for wanting to
come Mortal.

No, I do not because, he is a vampire he want Sun Burn or Tan, He will
burn, he's not Human so NO that would of not have helped.

Maybe she was hungry <eg>

 2. Amazingly enough, Nick and LaCroix seemed to be getting along in the
flashbacks. What do you think brought that on?

must have been during one of their truce periods (like they declared a 'cease
hostilities' for the 17th-18th century or something). In all honesty though,
it seemed that most of their more intense disagreements were in the past 200
years when Nick's angst was peaking and his attempts to reform himself were
more open

 3. Did you think the dominatrix bit was overdone any?
just a bit...

 4. At the end do you think Janette still wanted Nick to accept himself, or
had she given up by then? I think she was trying the 'tough love' approach.
I don't think she'd given up, but she did want him to accept his vampire
nature.

 5. Do you think the sunscreen would have actually helped any?
nope... actually would probably be more of an accelerant!

Winding back to the original question, what Lucius was wearing in the Pompeii

conservative members of Imperial Roman society wore *only* the toga, as that was
more "austere.") Yes, togas were only for citizens, purple borders indicating

Here's a question for discussion. Exactly what IS it about the sun that
makes him burn? Is it just one of those mystical we'll never understand
things because the greet forces say so? Is it the direct radiation (because
even at night there is still the radiation just at lesser levels, and then
what about starlight, which is still solar light...) Is it the intensity?
Is it because its a YELLOW star (think Superman... so if Nick lived on
another planet this wouldn't affect him....)

Or there an explanation Imissed somewhere....

Hey Cousin Raven, that's OK RL has been biting me in the rear so I have been

**completely** take the day off today (been working at home the last couple
of days <g> computer is faster) so I am seeing your lesson at just the right
time (IOW, don't feel bad, I think you're doing *great*)!

And now shall I get on topic (sorry about that <g>)!!

<Reluctant snip of a truly great synopsis>

Questions:

1. Do you think Janette killed the girl in the flashback because she was
jealous of the attention Nick was showing her? If not, why did she do it
then?

I think it was a little of both. I just saw this episode day before
yesterday and I **thought** I saw Janette (<--I just had to type that three
times because I always want to spell it the French way <lol>) go a little,
shall we say, green aroung the edges. But, (and also) particularly in the
flashbacks, Janette (<--only had to type it once that time <g>) has never
seemed, IMHO, to be one to care about what anyone else will think and kills
whether she is hungry, or just has an "urge."

2. Amazingly enough, Nick and LaCroix seemed to be getting along in the
flashbacks. What do you think brought that on?

On this one, I have to say that Nick and Uncle get along in the flashbacks
for Season One when it suits the story. That's a bit of a cop out perhaps
(no pun intended) but I really do think it is true. I find it interesting to
look at the contrasts between when Nick and LC are getting along and when
they are not--seems to work!

3. Did you think the dominatrix bit was overdone any?

Not really. I am not "into" <lol> that sort of thing, but I thought it
worked real well in this episode, and fit the story. I am brain-freezing on
the actress who played the dominatrix, but I thought she pulled the wearing
of such gear off rather well :>D=

4. At the end do you think Janette still wanted Nick to accept himself, or
had she given up by then?

I don't think Jeanette will ever give up on Nick. And no, she is NOT dead,
no one is dead, they are all still alive and I want to see them **all** in a
reunion movie <g>!

5. Do you think the sunscreen would have actually helped any?

Not unless it was SPF 1228!! <GGGGG> That's what it says on the back of two
of my 3 FK hats (waves madly at Kylie <g>).

Thanks Raven, I loved this one!

Forever Yours,
Billie-Lee

lost jewels from the Good Ol' Days (id when FK was airing).

Also agree with UV problem. Never trash someone or something else in order
to make yourself or your cause look better. It always comes back to haunt
you or in this case - bite you (fangwise) in the keister.

Well, I've got another question (surprise, surprise...). For all you
history buffs out there (which, sadly, I am not...): What was going on in
Vienna circa 1810? Wasn't that when Napolean had troops occupying there, or
am I getting my dates mixed up?

Ok, I lied. I've got more than one question :)

Also, does anyone know for sure which type of piano Beethoven preferred?
There were two types, the Viennese piano and the English piano. Now... it
would make sense for Beethoven to prefer the Viennese piano (as Mozart did),
since he was living there at the time, but based on his music I just can't
see it. He relies too much on bass and powerful dynamics, which is
definitely NOT what the Viennese piano was known for... Does anyone know
for sure? Am I getting myself confused over nothing?

Thanks for all the help on Fur Elise so far! It's helping me out big time
:)
