Hi,

I just watched a FK parody on tonight Weird Science on USA. I'm on the
East coast, so maybe you out West can still catch it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the status of the FTP site (for FK

doesn't seem to be an 'fkstories' directory anymore. Am I looking in the

Woo hoo! Sounds like me...found the witches *mischevious grin*, and am

OK no flames please but here's a thought:
Why should we- who have no corporate power- continue to fight for a cancelled
show when even that weenie James Parriott, per his comments, doesn't voice
much enthusiasm for the idea of reviving the show ? (Maybe HE should be
replaced.)

I mean come on , after all this time, it doesn't look like it's going to
happen. To TPTB they fullfilled their obligation to us by reviving teh show
the first time around. As far as they are concerned it's through and NO
amount of viewer interest is going to make them change their tiny, minds.

Discuss.

If we present a united front, then perhaps, just perhaps, someone will

And "tiny minds" have a way of growing, especially if profit is a factor. If
it is deemed that there is a profit to be made, i.e. FK merchandise or 2-hour

Someone asked if Alyce Hunter, the museum curator turned vampire from
Dark Knight, ever reappeared.

No, she didn't. According to Ger at Toronto Trek '93, the character
had been intended for four episode appearances. The producers decided
they didn't care for the actress in the role and didn't use her further.

I have always throught that the producers may have realized that with
the Coroner rewritten as a woman, and Janette made Nick's on-again-off-
again lover, Alyce simply didn't fit in any longer as a continuing
character.

In case anyone's wondering, they hadn't decided right up until shooting
whether Nick and Janette had a history, and if so what kind. This is
according to Deborah Duchene at Dead of Winter 2.

IMHO, because it's actually a good show that's on tv, and there's so few
good shows! Also, we *do* have corporate power. Whenever any one of us
goes shopping, that's showing our corporate power. Every time you spend
money, you are supporting or not supporting various corporations...so
therefore, *you* have the ultimate power. If enough people don't buy a
product, they go out of business. (Do you know how many of my friends
and I boycott Marvel Comics? Sounds tacky, but eventually enough people
are going to get sick of their tricks and they're going to be hurting!)

Also IMHO, anyone not voicing enthusiasm doesn't know a good thing when
they see it. FK is one of the better shows out there. (was. *sigh*)

Doesn't matter to me....even if I can't get my show back (I call it
"mine" because none of my other friends, fools that they are, watch FK),
I'm going to get a few novels and soundtracks out of the deal, and even
though I want the show, I would *love* tv movies with *anything here is

I was under the impression that the Cousins pin had been changed from a black
cross of the Lorraine region of France, to a pair of Roman olive branches? Am
I mistaken? (btw, I've also forwarded this letter to Susan Garrett, our
Official Affiliation Pin Goddess :-) , because this particular question has
been on my mind for several months now...)

I was of the impression that this change was made, because:

1) LaCroix wasn't _really_ French! He was in fact, for those who didn't watch
"A More Permanent Hell", a Roman General in his pre-vampire days.

2) The cross symbol offended the religious sensibilities of many of the
Cousins who would have had to wear them. (If anyone wishes an explanation of
this, please e-mail me privately).

3) Well...crosses and vampires...well, you know....they just don't mix! :-)

Now, as for what a "Cousin Lite" button might look like...I draw a blank.

I've got one. Susan made it up for me at MWC, which I believe makes it

Yeah, pretty much mistaken, actually.

There was an alternative laurel-wreath design made available on the
affiliation BADGES that I was making, awhile back (and may continue to
make, if I can ever get my inkjet printer to agree w/me on the issue).
These badges were laminated, name-tag-sized, and contained the affiliation
symbol from the pins, the person's name & the list name, and I sold them
for something like seven or eight bucks.

The badges, however, were and are wholly separate from the affiliation
PINS, which Susan (who is an Empress, btw, not a Goddess; her objection to
the latter being, I believe, due to the fact that those human sacrifices
can get pretty messy) distributes for free at cons and thru the mail if you
send a padded SASE, and in exchange for charity donations if you want a
full set. (Details of this set-up are available from Susan; I think you
can link to her affiliation pin page from http://www.vitinc.com/~susang)

The laurel wreath was never actually put on an affiliation pin, as far as I
know. And a good thing, too. For I have witnessed the sight of
Susan-And-Her-Affiliation-Pins, and it is a formidable array of envelopes
and labels and foamcore backings that would strike fear into the heart of
the staunchest office-supply advocate. "Our Susan" has done an incredible
and conscientious job of creating and maintaining the Affiliation Pin
Supply (spoken by one who should know, one who has laundered and/or lost
more affiliation pins over the last few months than ANY other member of the
FORKNI lists) and if she were to actually begin offering alternate
affiliation designs, I think that it might cause her brain cells to
spontaneously implode. And then where would we be?

Speaking as a charter member of the Committee to Preserve Susan's Sanity
(it's officially an endangered species, I believe) I say, let well enough
alone. :-)

If that was meant to be a True Cousinly taunt, then you've struck home.
I'm first and foremost a Knightie, and you know how we react to those
things.... :)

We are *NOT* "LITE" Cousins! Examine the words: "not" and "lite."
We are *LIGHT* Cousins.
We don't like the "let's get naked" LC any more than anyone else.
We loathe him, too.

A Light Cousin is like the opposite of a Dark Knightie. Where they want
Nick to embrace his vampiric side, we want LaCroix to embrace his
humanity. In short, we want to *redeem* LC. We want him to learn from
Nick's quest, if not necessarily embrace it.

A Light Cousin gets to both admire LC, for his intelligence, eloquence,
loyalty, and dedication to his own code, and condemn him, for his cruelty,
his manipulation, his *evil*.

AMPH, where LC muses on the existence of God and the value of the human
race, is the ultimate Light Cousin episode not currently under spoiler
protection. BMV, where Fleur awakens in him a humanity and capacity for
self-sacrifice he thought long since dead and buried, is my favorite Light
Cousin episode. Fever strays onto Light Cousinly ground, as does SoB, and
some spoiler protected things.

If someone would *like* to be a "Lite Cousin," more power to them.
But I know I speak for myself and Idalia, and I suspect for the other
three as well, when I say, *they would be distinct from us.*

You asked for no flames, so don't take this as one, but after all the recent

don't make personal comments about real people and I take offense to your

Would you be kind enough to share these "comments" he made with the rest of us?
And try and remember that we wouldn't have had the FK that we've all enjoyed
without him.
I've never seen him post anything that said he was interested in another

TPTB have no obligation to us, don't kid yourself. The industry is motivated
by money, not sentiment. I refuse to be pushed around though, if I want the
show to succeed or return, then I have to show my support for it by watching
it, supporting the sponsors, let the TPTB know that its being watched and
bringing new viewers to the show.

Too many people it seems have given up the fight. I don't see as many sigs
with the SOS/FK web page in them or information about when FK is shown on
the SciFi channel. People are buying computers every day and signing on to
this medium. By having it in your sig, you could attract other FK fans, ones
that didn't even know we were here and fighting.

I like this image, for all the reasons he listed. A black wreath, perhaps,
on a white background; with the "Light Cousin" symbol being the reverse of
same?

I had thought that the cross was being used because of his name, obviously.
I can understand how that could be somewhat disturbing to any number of
people for a variety of reasons, including those Will listed -- not French,
religion, cross & vampires not being exactly compatible -- and personally,
I think it would be a good idea to avoid it. Let's not borrow trouble,
either here or in the wider world of Fandom.

As an alternative, how about LaCroix's *sword pin* -- white on black for the
Cousins, because that's the actual image; with something entirely different
(the laurel?) for the Light Cousins?

A little something: the college that I presently work at has a big display
just outside the mail room and on the way to the cafeteria (that is, *high*
traffic) of a "Web", on which they want people to post their favorite sites.

http://members.aol.com/CuznJamiMR/SaveForeverKnight.html will be going up on
their board tomorrow.

It's a Catholic women's college. Hope nobody faints. <EG>

Idalia and I, the "active" Light Cousins, agreed that the appropriate
symbol for the Light Cousins is the one suggested by Lisa McDavid -- the
normal, black on white, cross Cousin symbol, with rays emanating from
behind it, as if from the sun. This works with both the word "light" and
the concept of redemption for LC. It has the added advantage that it can
be created from a regular Cousin pin with a black pen and a ruler... :)

Well, yes, Lacroix is not French. However, as you said yourself, the
badge is based on his name. His name *is* French. Besides, purely
practically speaking, I'm sure the badges were made looong before AMPH
aired. But that's just a side note.

> religion, cross & vampires not being exactly compatible -- and personally,

I can see how this can make some people antsy, but remember that this
was a name Lacroix chose for himself, this isn't something anyone else is
trying to ram down his throat or yours. Frankly, I figure he chose it
*because* of the reasons you stated above... to evoke precisely the
discomfort you're feeling. Why go through the effort to put someone
off-guard, when merely the sound of your name will cause any
self-respecting vampire to pale?

But, not being a Cousin or a Light Cousin... heck, I don't even have a
vote. This, as ever, is just my interpretation of the matter.

Well, then, I have the perfect symbol for your pin. A slice of cake with a
bite taken out of it, symbolizing having one's cake and eating it, too. ;)

Of course not. Flames usually involve name calling and I didn't see any of
that. ;)

I'm just still really confused by your post. I don't see anyone "pushing"
the sensual aspect of the NK/LC relationship. Perhaps you could clarify
what you meant by this?

FK fandom, as I see it, is big enough and diverse enough to support any and
all POVs. I have no problem with people writing posts advocating LC embrace
his humanity, even though that concept is as vile to me as cold pea soup. I
do not see the romantic aspect of the N&N relationship, but I have no
problem with people posting their thoughts on it. Because, of course, I can
always post as well.

This is one of the things I like about this fandom. There is an openness
and diversity of opinion - and such is encouraged - that leaves room for
*all* interpretations.

When you say that you wish people should stop "pushing" certain aspects of
the NK/LC relationship, do you mean that we just shouldn't discuss it
anymore? I really want to understand where you're coming from.

...You rent the movie VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN (a blast, btw...Definite
comedy, definitely -not- typical Eddie Murphy) and you realize
that Wes Craven MUST have been watching too much FK because...

= The lead female is named Vetter (or something that
sounds damn close to it!) No, the first name is NOT
      Tracy, it's Rita

= People keep saying that this character "is a good cop!"

= We realize very early into the flick that said cop
      is also a half-vampire (don't ask...you've gotta watch it
      to understand. <grin>)

Sorry, no fights with the water cooler in the film. That would have
been absolutely priceless, although I ROFL'd when I heard "She's a
good cop!" <rolling eyeballs>

Subject: Nick and the Unnameds

(I'm still on digest; my apologies if this has been addressed already.)

Someone commented that the emphasis some people put on the erotic aspect
of Nick and LC's relationship makes them uncomfortable, and several people
seemed to take offense at this.

Frankly, that emphasis bothers me as well, not because I don't respect
their right to their opinions, but because I believe it would bother Nick.

There is a certain underlying tension between them on that level, but it
has been noted before that it comes almost entirely from LC. Nick is
ostentatiously heterosexual. The best example I can think of is to
contrast the flashbacks of Near Death and NiQ. When Nick, newly come
across, is sucking at LC's wrist, NB manages to give LC a positively
enraptured expression. In NiQ, when the injured LC is sucking at Nick's
wrist, Nick's expression is one of the utmost distaste and disgust.

I believe that Nick's feelings for LC simply do not exist on that level;
LC is his father, teacher, enemy and friend, not his lover. I believe
that any emphasis on the erotic aspect of the relationship is unfair to
Nick unless it is done from LC's pov. And I believe that too much
emphasis on the erotic aspect of the relationship is unfair to LC, who is
more complex than that in many ways -- one of which can be described
through Selene, Janette and, most importantly, Fleur, his true love.

Just MHO, of course.

Dear Everyone:

I am in the process of writing some fiction centred around LaCroix. I
believe I understand the character fairly well, but I would appreciate any
input from anyone out there as to what they think are some things that LC
would never, ever do (apart from staking Nick!), just to further ensure that
my story is believable.

Can anyone help?
