Upcoming Movie Role Hi, all. Thought some of you would be interested in this. The following are various excerpts relating to John Kapelos and his role in the movie "The Relic" from the Chicago Tribune Magazine article "Unnatural History" dated May 19, 1996: <The article doesn't say when the movie will open, though it does state that the movie is currently in the final stages of post production. Also, a major press junket is planned for July at the Field Museum of Natural History in downtown Chicago where location shooting was done last October. Other stars in this film are Tom Sizemore, Penelope Ann Miller, Linda Hunt, and James Whitmore.> "The Relic" is based on "Relic", a fast-paced 1996 novel that imagined what might happen if an ancient prehistoric beast were snatched from its lush Amazon-basin habitat and brought to a fictitious North American museum. The catch here is that the scientists on the receiving end are unaware of what they're getting, because the entire field team was killed. In the film, the various nooks and crannies of a major American museum and research facility provide a refuge for amysterious killer whose vicious attacks threaten to spoil the opening of a hot-ticket "superstition exhibit". As the body count mounts, it becomes clear the culprit is not your run-of- the-mill, museum-dwelling psychopath. John Kapelos, an eight-year Second City veteran, who may be most familiar for his roles as Carl the janitor in "The Breakfast Club" and as David Letterman's producer in "The Late Shift", plays a lawman who must protect the major and his wife from the creature. He spends quite a bit of time in the tunnels. "I ended up being a cop named McNally, who goes after this primal being," Kapelos said over lunch in a Sunset Strip bistro. "He's a regular Chicago cop who gets inexorably drawn into the maelstrom of activities that lead to his demise. We don't kow what it is in the beginning. "The definitely cast me because I'm a Chicago guy, and I played a cop on TV (CBS' "Forever Knight"). I've got a Chicago cop's dimensions. I think a Chicago cop's MO is that he's attitudinal and always looking for food. "I don't want to be disrespectful, but the first thing I noticed about Chicago cops is that they didn't have the shape of policemen out here. L.A. cops look like young Tom Sellecks." Before leaving Chicago for Los Angeles, Kapelos, native of London, Ontario, enjoyed visiting the Field Museum. Thus, he was especially impressed by the work of the set designers, even knowing that he would play a part in destroying their handiwork. "The way they've re-created this priceless museum is pure Hollywood movie magic," Kapelos said. "We couldn't do to the Field Museum what we did to that set. It's rained on and trashed. I'm thrown through one of the windows. It was neat." <Regarding the movie's budget> "It was like a taxi meter," said Kapelos, a dedicated musician who is putting the finishing touches on a show he would like to unveil in Chicago next fall. "Every three or four days, someone would say, 'That's $48 million...52...57.' I don't know what it ended up being." - End of Article Excerpts - Roxanne ----- Cleopatra - "Nobody Ever Dies" ----- RoxanneP@a....... (Home) // CHIRMP@a....... It happened in the flashbacks for "A Fate Worse Than Death". Janette was a prostitute in medieval Paris who was being sexually assaulted by some soldiers; LaCroix swooped in and the rest is history. :-) The present day story which this ties into concerns a prostitute who is being brutalized by her pimp. I, too, had a bad night after LK. I cried & yelled out (almost woke up the building) at certain points. But, I had to channel this immense energy into something positive. So, with the love of Nick, the faith & trust of Natalie, & the (ultimate) compassion of LaCroix (though NO spoilers here), here's what I offer to the FK masses as some... positive revenge! THANKS TO ALL THE FKers out there who have brought us the second season, these lists, spoilers, fic, internet organization, crane campaigns, all the factions/affiliations, the cons, the LK parties, NAFTE stormtroupers, etc. We wouldn't be here w/o YOU! Our humble & sincere thanks! But, this is the next dawn & we're still here & so is our dream! I suggest at least one way we can take back what is OURS (the future of FK)! So, if you're pissed, lost, depressed, lost, out of tissue, out of chocolate ... here's a few things WE CAN DO: ***FIRST*** BE GRATEFUL TO THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED US (& help them to continue to do so): ========================================================================== WRITE/CALL/EMAIL "Thank You" notes, complements, & requests to the stations which have run FK eps this year (other than USA). Many of these are one- station independents. They all LOVE love letters for the FCC file (comes in handy for 3-year license renewal). This feels much better than spending energy on nastygrams to the old PTW (powers that were!). (Write to the cable companies which carry SciFi, too!) ***NEXT*** BE AN IRRESISTABLE FORCE! ========================= *WE* are the Powers That Be! This is a case of Supply & Demand (classic capitalism). The networks & production companies don't care about quality or art. They care about profit, predictable return-on-investment, & new markets. The way networks & production companies find/decide on their new line-up is either someone has a bright idea & the marketing research backs it up, or there's a hole in the schedule & whatever is the Most Sure $$$ Thing gets to fill it. That's a TV fact. But, what can we do? We (the "Demand") must speak louder & to more people & not give up UNTIL our "Demand" is recognised & answered, on OUR terms. We are lucky. We don't have to invent the method; we just have to follow it! For all those Star Trekkers & other save-quality-TV groups before us, we salute you. Face it, Forever Knight has NEVER had any real promotion or merchandising developed. We have no Paramount, no Gene Roddenbury, or J. Michael (B5) to focus or give direction to the energy we all feel right now (& forever). But, we can still gather the demographics, the marketing research, the numbers, etc. BECAUSE of the Internet, these lists, & our refusal to settle for nothing less when it comes to Forever Knight! We are a force to be reckonned with! We can do it from the ground up! THINK LOCALLY, ACT GLOBALLY (for FK)! ===================================== 1) Gather information, analyse it into terms & stats which TV folks CANNOT ignore. We are the surest thing I've seen, but we & the stations which air/ed the show are scattered. Someone wrote that one reason the ratings were listed as lower than we know is that the eps were aired on so many different channels. SO, LET's GATHER & UNIFY UNREFUTABLE STATS OURSELVES! 2) Do the same for merchandising demographics. But while we're at it, let's determine what WE want to see produced & marketed (not some cheesy marketing guy's idea of the cheapest knock-off slime for $$$). Watch SCIFI's Anti-Gravity Room & other shows. They always have segments on cool stuff from this show or that creator/author. We must speak loudly & in unison & they'll have to come. (The profit motive can be more compelling than even Janette's gaze!) 3) Find a NEW home for the 4th season &/or movies: Yes, the PTW still have copyrights, but they will sell to the highest bidder or cave in if the "Demand" is truely undeniable. And, there ARE visionary, sympathetic, folks w/$$$ who would be interested in the show &/or merchandising. We just have to find them & be real convincing & peristent. WE CAN ALL DO THESE THINGS! Let me be the first to volunteer. Again (to borrow from Babylon 5's homepage & success -- yes, the "FK by other authors" was great & look what we produced!) I believe we need to gather viewing stats & a list of stations which air/ed Forever Knight. I will gather & compile these & provide to the list so that we all can write nice notes to them & so that newbies can have this resource THIS SUMMER! Please participate in the survey below: FOREVER KNIGHT VIEWERS/VIEWING POLL 5/19/96 =================================== ======= Please take a moment to answer these questions. I hope they never make anymore Bionic movies with Lee Majors. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~"Oh my God!!
