Actually, that's a good one. I like how Nick is dressed this season much better than in the other two (really). I also think he looks much better than the previous two seasons and he has good hair days more often. Uncle has been looking great this season also. I also think that, overall, the directing this season has been... I dunno if 'better' is the right word. Nicer, maybe. The direction is clean and everything is edited well. The flashbacks also actually have something to do with the story, which wasn't always the case in the previous seasons. And no, I don't think the third season is better, just different. All three seasons are very different, but I think that's a *good* thing. Each season has a slightly different emphasis, and IMNSHO it keeps the show fresh. Well, I don't know that everyone would describe Nick's apartment as "dreary". And as for the "doesn't urinate" comment, we've never (to my knowledge) been shown whether that's actually so or not. Nick has been shown to have blood in his body and the ability to sweat. And there are indications that he can also be sexually active. So he may be able to urinate as well (since he has other body secretions). I don't think Nick is regarded with much respect in the vampire community. He gets "sneered" at by younger vampires when he goes into the Raven in other episodes (For I Have Sinned, Curiouser and Curiouser, for examples). I think he's been tolerated for two reasons (Janette in first season, LC in subsequent seasons). Some younger vampires may be wary of crossing him because of his age, but I think more of them probably consider Nick a bit "strange" for wanting to be mortal again. As Amy pointed out, LC tells the vamp Nick wanted to "fang and bang" in SoB to not say anything. But I think it was more to protect *LC's* reputation and she complied with his "request" out of fear of what he'd do to her if she didn't. LC didn't want it to get around that Nick would act so uncontrollably. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 8 Apr 1996 17:27:48 -0500 From: Stephanie Babbitt <stephanie.babbitt@g.......> Subject: Re: BB Questions Picking up on Dr. Funke and others' discussion on Nick's (and other vamps') bodily habits (especially elimination): Sandra, after a very rational discussion of above, pointed out: >I mean, most television shows don't dwell on such matters normally. True. But the scriptwriters did expressly say that a vampire has a heartbeat about once every ten minutes (I Will Repay). Given that a human's average resting pulse tends to run in the seventy beats per minute range, that means the human-to-vampire bodily function ratio would be approximately 700 to 1. If the ordinary human goes to the little room six times a day, then by extrapolation, a vampire would go once every four months or so. This also means female vampires have the luxury of having the curse only once every 54 years, give or take a month. No, I'm not really being serious, in case you were wondering. <g> Stephanie Babbitt Whose grip on reality appears to be slipping daily ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 8 Apr 1996 14:17:57 -0700 From: AKR <r@w.......> Subject: Nick&Nat Manifesto (long) On Mon, 8 Apr 1996, Janice Cox wrote: > For me, Ger is just a little too clean-cut, and a lot of that shows up in > Nick. I think Nick would *happily* settle down into the mortal routine... Now, whoever said clean-cut can't be sexy? (Waiting for Knighties to stake your opinion, indeed! <vbg>) But, seriously, we all know that we think Nick's attractive as a human, because we think Ger's attractive (I choose to swoon over Nick only, however, because Ger's married; aren't technical distinctions fun?); the question becomes most interesting when applied to Natalie. Nick and Nat think that they're in love. Why? Well, first, they each find the other attractive, not only in the way that CD and GWD are attractive, but in Nick's natural attraction as a vampire, and in Nat's natural attraction (to a vampire) as food. Because of their moral standards and self-images, they suppress that second aspect into the first, and thus intensify it. Second, they are good friends. It is important to remember how comfortable they were in each other's company before everything got so tense (the tag of UTV, for example, or the "house call" in FF). They were pals long before they realized that they wanted more from their relationship (OtL), much less before they finally tried to have more (BMV). And because they are both lonely, their friendship has assumed enormous dimensions in each of their emotional lives. Third, they are symbolic in each other's eyes. Natalie represents mortality to Nick. Redemption. She is humanity, daylight, growth and age and children and true death. She has become wrapped up in his mind with what she's trying to bring him, something that he's been searching for for at least a century, and something he's periodically regretted losing since the very first night he lost it. Nick represents security to Nat. Despite all the dangers she's encountered since he came into her life, he has always protected her, rescued her, defended her. And he is, himself, safe, because his self-control is much stronger than he credits -- he will not endanger her, and she knows this. Until he achieves mortality, or she becomes a vampire, their relationship cannot really progress, and that is also a kind of security for Nat, who has had so much loss in her life. Fourth, they expect the best of each other. Nat gets frustrated and even angry with Nick when he backslides, because she believes he can be better. Nick *needs* someone to believe in him like that, because his guilt often prevents him from expecting the best of himself. And Nick is always surprised when Natalie doesn't understand something he's going through. I take this surprise as evidence that it's the exception, and that the rule is an empathy amazing in light of Nat's non-vampirism. Fifth, when Nick lost his memory (NiQ) he said that he felt something special -- "something good" -- between them. This feeling, imho, could not consciously be supported by anything but physical attraction or true love, as he remembered nothing of his -- or their -- history. And it seems (to me) unlikely that he would have chosen to act on it in NiQ unless he believed it to be more than mere chemistry. Now, as to whether Nat would still be attracted to Nick as a mortal... I think that what they have been through together in the past five years is a stronger bond than the vampire magnetism that would be lost. And the dark corners of his personality would never be entirely swept out, no matter what kind of redemption he found -- everyone is both good and evil, and we saw Nick untainted by vampirism in QoH. He would not suddenly cease to be fascinating. However, the stasis of the relationship would end; it would have to either grow or die. And, as Sandra has pointed out, that would be the true test of Natalie's feelings. I think she's up to the challenge, but I admit it would be a challenge, and that it would take courage for her to take it up. ******* Amy, Lady of the Knight (AKR) r@w....... ******* "The mighty mountains bare their fangs unto the moon" --Robert Service ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 8 Apr 1996 17:19:22 -0400 From: "Nancy A. Not unless it incinerated him, and there were a lot of bodies that weren't incinerated (they could identify everybody). Plus, a mortal baby survived it too, with nary a scratch. The explosion probably just caused rapid decompression, lots of flying debris and poisonous gas, and a disastrous reconfiguration of the plane's aerodynamic structure. I'm not familiar with the specs on a commercial airliner (fuel is usually in the wing section), but the explosion happened BEFORE the crash and for there to be a BIGGER explosion, the airplane fuel would need to come into play I would guess that this would happen after the plane hits the ground. In other words, here is how I saw it happen. Bomb in cockpit goes "boom" pilots die, plane falls like a rock. Plane hits ground and breaks up into little pieces. As far as fire/explosions I didn't see explosions, but there was definantely fires. So we really don't know if there was "BOOM" during the crash. Can I beg people to break their lines at about 70 characters? Nope, you're not the only one. The long lines also mess up other kind of mail readers including Eudora. (Hopefully!) In addition, does anyone have the Canadian versions of season 1. I know, I know, everyone asks so just add me to the list of beggars. I also need about 6 shows from season 2. I think I lost a tape..:( Thanks all... Crystal, A Vaquera Guffeyc@t.......
