O.K. Im a total newbie, new to AOL, computers, and this list. So if Im not
even posting this correctly Im sorry!! I found the list on the web, dont ask
me how, I dont think I could get back there again if I tried! Well, maybe, Im
getting better at this! Ive been looking for info. on Ben Bass (Javier
Vachon) So far I've only been able to find a basic bio on the web that had
just acting achievments and such, but I have other Q's. It seems like for a
guy that's done a fair amount of acting both theatre and tv there isnt too
many people that know much about him. Maybe he's just real private, who
knows. But if anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. E-mail me off
list if you can because sometimes I dont have time to read the whole list at
once and have to check my other "unimportant" mail. Thanks a lot!!! Karen :)

Sorry if this has already been said cause I'm on digest. I just voted for
the peoples poll earlier and I noticed that GWD is rated no. 1!:)
However, he would have been able to do much better if there is a
standardised spelling for his name. He was also listed under no. 6 with
slight variations to his name. Could everyone agree with a spelling and stick
to it so that he'll be able to top the list?

True but you can't have enough vampire hunks on television in my

Coiuld the vampire family show you mentioned be Blood Ties? I have a
copy of it somewhere. It was a TV movie that had the feel of a pilot
about it. It was a family of Carpathians (vampires) who lived in LA.
One of the members seemed to distance himself from the family. He worked
as a reporter and became interested in a mortal.

From: MS CHRISTINA L KAMNIKAR <VQRW76A@p.......>
Subject: Top Ten Reasons I *Love* Forever Knight

I was going to make this the "Top Ten Reasons You Know You're Not
Watching FK" if the Kindred didn't measure up. It didn't. It was... okay.
<shrug> Nothing memorable. Nothing magic. But explaining why would be
depressing, and I don't want to waste space on it.

This is long. Skip it if you know why you love FK, and don't need to be
reminded of it.

Here are the Top Ten Reasons I Love Forever Knight.

10. The sense of humor.

From Schanke to Vachon to Natalie, everyone on FK has a comic side.
From Nick's "Someone shoot me... please?" to Nat's "Do you smell Pina
Colada?" to Janette's gulp at Schanke's crossing himself, and her muttered
comment of "Please! Don't. Do. That!" to Lacroix's wonderfully evil, "It's
always about *YOU*, Nicholas..." There is a wealth of amusement and reality
in the dialogue of this show. Being a vampire may be serious, but it's not
Real Serious. This show knows when not to take itself too seriously.

9. The sense of history.

There's the sweeping scope of 2000 years of Lacroix's life, and 800
years of Nick's depicted through flashbacks. There's the tangled
relationships between Nick and Lacroix, Nick and Janette, Nick and the
neck-of-the-week; there's Nick's relationship with humanity, Nick &
Natalie's four years of attempts... when you watch this show, you get a
sense of scope beyond the here-and-now. You believe these people have been
around hundreds of years, and that they've adapted to the present day with
panache in some cases, and difficulty in others.

8. The sense of style.

Janette, the Raven, and Lacroix embody vamp style. The way they
act, the way they dress, their surroundings---all lead you to believe that
these are _not_ your ordinary night people. Nick's loft looks like a place
a disaffected vampire would hang out. The squadroom is a real, busy police
station, with a million things happening at once. What's more, there's
always a substance behind the glitter; emotions hidden by calculated dazzle.

7. The acting.

Geraint Wyn Davies, Catherine Disher, Nigel Bennet, Deborah
Duchene... all of them ought to be famous. They get more distance out of
looks and asides than most American actors manage with screamed monologues
and passionate kisses. The fact that they're not is simply a testament to
L.A.'s "if you're not in Hollywood you're nowhere" mentality. The fact that
they so seldom go over the top on a vampire cop show is a tribute to their
abilities. The supporting cast is likewise excellent.

6. The direction.

45 degree angles? Weird mood lighting? Shots of Toronto at night?
Even when it falls on its face, the direction at FK takes more chances than
any other show on TV. As a result, it has more memorable, unique scenes
that lesser shows won't take the chances to produce.

5. The music.

Fred Mollin is great. Fred Mollin is great. Fred Mollin is great.:)

4. The dialogue.

The writers on this show don't just have good senses of humor. They
know their Shakespeare; their Lewis Carroll; and when to throw both out the
window and write from the heart. Anyone who can so believably write Nick's
anguished wish for redemption ("The truth is, they are the innocent. And we
are the guilty"), and Lacroix's wicked glee ("We _are_ in a mood tonight,
aren't we?"), AND Natalie's matter-of-fact acceptance of weirdness ("Old
friend takes on a whole new meaning with you") deserves a Gemini, an Emmy
and a Golden Globe. ("And I've learned that absolution is something that
must be earned... among the living.")

3. The romance.

Necks-of-the-week get the courtesy of a backstory. Natalie wants
Nick, and Nick wants Natalie, but nothing can happen. Even Lacroix has a
secret, shattered love affair. And then there's Janette.
It's not in the trappings, it's in the execution that you find
romance. Acting and terrific dialogue and history combine to form romance
with a capital R.

2. The conflict.

Nick vs. Lacroix. Nick vs. Psycho of the Week. Nick vs. Nick.
Natalie vs. Nick. Natalie vs. Lacroix. Natalie vs. Janette.
Janette vs. Nick. Janette vs. the boring outside world.
Tracy vs. her Dad. Vachon vs. Boredom. Reese vs. the Water Cooler.
        Fantasy vs. Reality. (Reality loses...)

1. Reality bites. Forever Knight bites back. :) Okay. It's a reality
unto itself. They created a separate world, where vampires live and survive
and love. And hate. And hope.

I made that same observation on the spoiler list at the time BF first
showed, and was surprised at just how upset some people seemed at the mere
suggestion Nick might be a carouche.

From the episode I assumed that the critical point in determining if a
vampire was a carouche was his choice of blood source. I asked JP and
received the following response:

"The carouche is simply the lowest of the low. Societal outcasts. The
bottom feeders who exist on the fringe feeding on animal blood."

So I guess the carouche is just the vampire equivelant of street people.
You know - the ones you see walking down the street pushing a cart full of
garbage bags.

I am so <insert your favorite explitive here> mad! I happened to catch 5
minutes -- that's FIVE minutes -- of 'The Kindred' tonight. In that 5
minutes the head vampire guy (who couldn't hold a candle to Screed, let
alone LaCroix) was called "Uncle" and he went to a bar called "Haven" --
maybe that was in the role-playing game this is based on, I don't know, but
the exterior shot of the club was practically a carbon copy of our Raven,
right down to the font of the club's name (oh, sorry, forgot, word 'Haven'
was in green letters and 'Raven' was is red letters -- never mind that makes
it original, doesn't it).

I honestly can not believe that the people who created this show never saw
Forever Knight; there are too many cheap rip-offs for them not to have seen
it. Now, why, I ask you, would ideas be stolen from a show that has no
market potential according to TPTB? Why would Spelling's company want to
spend millions of dollars on this paltry vampire show when the folks at
Sony/Columbia/TriStar and USA are not willing to spend a fraction of that on
something with as much quality as FK?

If the Gemini awards were open to all, who here thinks that a single actor
on The Kindred would be nominated? FK had four nominations and one big
winner and is treated like dirt. I think I am going to be sick.

ObFKFIC-L: Congrats to Sherri Lynn Godsey and Lisa Wolters who both had
letters to the editor published in USA's Sci-Fi magazine! Both nicely
written letters. Good going, you two!

This will be my last post on The Monstronsity. Feel better? <g>

First, a few personal comments. I like a *FEW* of the special
effects. The eyes, the melding with the earth, and the morphing.
(but then I like morphing in general)

Acting sucked. I can tell they don't ENJOY the parts that well. Not
enough depth and emotion in the lines. Heck, even *bad* FK lines
sounded more like the actors MEANT it! Feeling? Emotion? Actor
interaction/character interaction? Not here, dude!

Nighttime that looks like day? Wait, no, they're supposedly able to
go out after feeding. Uh huh. Riiiiiight. Read: FX department too
damn cheap to do night shots (that would mean overtime, right?) It's
shocking the lack of consistency here. Some effects are really really
kewl. I *love* the eyes. (Sorry, FK SFX people ought to take note of
that, it's simple enough to do with computers now) The morphing is
kewl, but too damn cliche'.

Speaking of effects, come ON people - That women in the "virginal
white" burning up on the bridge - I dunno about you guys, but *I*
could tell that the flames were added after! No smoke beforehand? Uh
uh, I don't buy that crap... I *MUCH* prefer the smoking effects from
FK - it seems much more realistic to smoke before burning...

San Francisco? Heck, they could have set it in the bible belt and I
woudn't give a damn if it was done WELL.

Some quotes from posts:

...And a BAD one at that!

Do I get some kind of award for making it through not five minutes,
not just one episode, but <gasp> TWO episodes of The Monstronsity?
Without liking it? (The scary thing is it'll appeal to the 9021-HURL
crowd simply because it's the same producer. <barg gag barf barf>

(I play V:TM, so I could bear it a little more - but I pulled an

Might I suggest something light and fluffy? The Lion King, for
example. <laugh> Seriously, it IS enjoyable to watch - without kids,
that is. Or, perhaps for you serious comedy buffs, My Best Friend Is

But IMHO, I think the BEST option for taping OVER this drivel is
with... FK!!!! Yea! The best revenge IS revenge, after all...

  > Julian Luna...acts more like a Giovanni...

Nope. A Gangrel with morals. In the RPG, he'd make a miserable
prince, too slow to act. Although Gangrel don't usually have mentors
around to advise them, so...<shrug> I dunno.

  > ...White Wolf probably allowed this!

Check out the "Executive Producer" names. Neither of them are Mark
Rein-Hagen, although Mark's name is in the beginning (didn't notice
for what, though) Spelling has the $$, so the Errors are in control.

  > ...eat, drink, and have sex...

I'm sorry, NOT everyone is going to have "eat food" merits, protean
level three, etc. This is just TOO unreal, even for fantasy... Or are
they trying to combine the game with "traditional" western vampire
abilities? I had that though stroll across my mind this evening...

(and from another source) "No one frenzied!!"

Yea, another gripe. We should have seen at least a couple frenzies
before the end of the second ep. Sigh...

Never mind, I don't get the Award for Tolerance. JR does. Although, I
think hers ought to be for being a Malkavian in disguise...She's
certainly crazy enough for it. <insane cackle> (which would open up
the AFT for me again in that case...<sly grin>

  > The ability to lick the wound and have it heal...

That's from the RPG, not a Spelling Error. Glad they left that in,
IMO.

  > The Haven? Arg....

Actually, it's probably NOT so much a play on FK's Raven, but more a
reference to a White Wolf vampire's safe haven/resting place - which
IS and has been in the game referred to as the character's "haven".

  > Melrose Place meets The Godfather with Fangs

What fangs? Just MP meets TG...

  > ...but a WHITE WOLF???

Ack. I feel ashamed. I was picking apart everything else except that.
I never paid any attention to the color of the fur. Sigh...

That's it for now. I *do* have to work in the morning, much to my
disgust...

Like Uncle? Admire his eloquence? His drive? The potential of the thong?
And yet you support Nick's quest for redemption? His standards of morality?
Have it both ways. Be a Light Cousin. <G>
It is sort of the opposite of being a Dark Knightie. We (me, possibly
Idealia, and anyone else who wants to chime in) believe in Uncle's
humanity, and want him to accept it and deal with it, in much the same
way that the Dark Knighties seem to want Nick to accept and deal with his
vampirism.
Light Cousin Eps: AMPH, BMV, Fever...
I am an extremist Light Cousin. I actually want to redeem Uncle. :)
However, I am patient. I know he has two thousand years of vampirism to
work through. So I'll give him another two centuries to decide to reform...

Ok Folks,
If you enter someone's name in once, who hasn't been entered before,
in comes up 0%. If you enter them twice, it comes up 1%. Enter them about 5
more imes, it goes up to 12%. I made it so that NB was 5th place, but then
they reset the polls. I don't think this will count for much.

Did anyone else catch tonights ep? This one was alot better than
yesterdays, if they keep this up I will probably watch it. The Kindred
doesn't hold a candle to FK and FK will always be my first love. Besides
how could anyone resist Julien Luna's eyes:)

And my earier post to the list, sent at 4:16pm finally arrived back to me
at 10:50pm, pacific time. Whats up?

Forever!!

Subject: News from the web

I'm not sure, but I think I'm stretching the rules of propriety here by
posting three times in one day without saying anything particularly
interesting. ;^)

News from the Sony FK web site: The following has been added to the web
page blurb. (Note they also give info on ordering the FK soundtrack now.)

> Farewell "Forever Knight"
> The final four new episodes of "Forever Knight" will air in syndication

> April 22nd at 8:00 (EST).

Since my local syndie (in Philadelphia) runs FK late Sunday/early Monday
at around 2am, there will be only 18 hours between the syndication showing
of "Last Knight" and the SFC showing here (assuming we can't convince the
local syndie to give the show a better time slot!).

Good news, though: apparently, this means that those going up to Toronto
to see "Taming of the Shrew" will be able to see "Jane Doe" on Saturday
night 4/27! Apparently most Toronto residents can watch FK on Buffalo's
WKBW at 12:05am on Saturday night. It should be fun to watch it together!
:^)

Also, I went over to that people poll and voted for Ger, of course,
listing four other cast members, as well (I'll let you all speculate
about which ones!). I think their tabulation system is freaky, or the
voters are freaky (well, we are among the voters, no???), but for what
it's worth, here are the rankings I found when I was there:

1. DEBORAH DUCHENE
2. DAVID DUCHOVNY, DEMI MOORE, GERAINT WYN DAVIES,
       ALICIA SILVERSTONE, EMILY COUGHLIN

Heh, heh... gotta love it, Deb appears to be on top of the list right now
(way to go, Ravens/Ravenettes!) and Ger is tied with Demi Moore and three
other people for second most beautiful person. :^)

I really must spend less time surfing the web and more time writing
letters to Sony and the Sci-Fi Channel. It seems that the letters to
Sony are finally getting noticed. :^) :^) :^)
