Well count me in as one who likes the whooshing better. I close my eyes

That's odd, I buy recordings from Crescendo at Sam Goody all the time,
just got the extended Ladyhawke soundtrack there last week. Now admittedly,
the FK soundtrack is probably too recent a release to be in those books yet,
but they certainly should have been able to call Crescendo and ask, just like
we all did.

I got my 4 copies last week, went together with 3 friends to get the discount.
The music is wonderful!!!

Just a brief reminder--

reality gets warped enough around here. Please keep in mind that "Uncle" is
LaCroix, NOT Nigel.

And, my little Ravenette soul was astonished to find how similar a mistyping
of 'uncle' is to 'no clue.'

Yes, episodes have been aired in an order OTHER than production order during
this and other seasons and episode lists on a number of sites ARE in aired
order, not production order.

As a matter of fact, I asked James Parriott this question in the middle
of the second season. Here was his response:

<<Laurie -

Syndication does require that each episode be able to air out of order
and on its own. However I do think that there's a natural progression
that occurs with the characters and what about each has been revealed.
So... I guess shooting order is how they *should* be aired. But that's
done in only a very broad manner (i.e. the studio picks an order from,
say, seven episodes that have just been completed --- but they
generally won't air an episode shot in the Fall in the Spring, unless
it's a real dog and they want to bury it.)
Hope that answers your question.

Which answer provoked another two weeks of debate, as I recall <g>.

Yes, my CD arrived yesterday as well. I just hope for your sake Dirk,
that you wife won't order in the future a CD and say "Hey, it's Michael
Bolton!". :)

I finally listened to the whole thing and I am pleased with it.
BUT I do have 2 minor quibbles about it.

1) The breaks between songs is a little too brief. (Well, may be not so).

2) Only Nigel's voice is on it. I kinda wish some of the other cast members
would be on it and quote their favorite lines from the episode where
   the music was from.

IMHO the best line on the CD is:

"If you love something, let it go. If it doesn't return, hunt it down
 and kill it."

As someone who has just seen some first and second season eps for the

comparison! I forget the episode title, but there's one where a man and

Subject: Re: Episode Order

I don't think you can definitively state that there is a "correct" airing
order. I remember that in the 2nd season JP was told to make each and
every story "stand-alone" so they could be aired in any order in
repeats/syndication. Order of airing was determined by a lot of things--
sweep months for instance got what TPTB considered the "strongest"
episodes, regardless of what order they were filmed in.

My personal preference is filmed order. When an actor/writer/producer is
working on a continuing project like a tv series, you may try to ignore
what you've done before but I know from experience you can't really do
that. What Ger did as Nick one week is going to affect how he sees and
plays the character in following weeks. Episode 22 is going to be
affected by episode 13, even though they showed 22 first. Same thing
applies to the writing, producing and directing. Showing Nick in the very
last scene of the last aired episode playing kissy-face with Janette is
going to have a greater impact than if (*as it was filmed*) it came in
the middle of the season! And truthfully, some events made a lot more
sense character-developmentally coming *after* certain others than before.

There was no continuity; not consciously. However much it irked us fans,
that was how they wrote the season. Any continuity came from how the
actors developed their characters, and IMHO that means taking into
account the order the stories were filmed.

All the preceding, of course, is just my opinion.

Cheers!

You're right about FIHS, I think, but in NiQ, Nat definitely rolls
her eyes when Nick innocently implies he's responsible for that music. He has
no idea what he's saying, but she certainly does, and for the longest time, I
misheard her next statement as "going up for air," because it followed so
closely on the heavy implications of the hard-of-hearing friend with the
quill pen... Perhaps part of the reason Nick didn't want to dwell on St.
Joan is because he was still uncomfortable with the implications of "saint."

> And when did you ever meet a man who *didn't*
> like talking about himself? (VVBG)
Actually <wry grin> ones who will *talk* about *anything* can be at a
bit of a premium... No doubt this is part of LaCroix's appeal. Come to
think of it, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it occurs to me that Nick and
LC have gotten through the centuries with, mainly, just the companionship of
their Family, while Janette has always reached out for others. Thoughts?

Okay, here comes that ignorant pagan again. Don't Catholics have a ritual
called "the last rites"? If you die before you have a chance to confess your
venial sins, you end up in Purgatory, and with mortal sins (ie. murder)
unconfessed you are damned? Or am I clinging like lichen to a stone to a
more medieval concept of Catholism? Has this changed over the years? Even
if it has, and I'm correct in my recollection of the medieval concepts, maybe
Nick, 13th century lad that he is, is still clinging lichen-like...

I don't think Nat knows that much about Nick's past. I think Nick
is afraid to tell her that many details about his past. I think
he's afraid she might be repulsed by something he'd say.

Janette being gone has to be hard for Nick because she was the one
person he felt okay about opening up to with any concerns or problems.
Even then, though, there were some things he kept to himself for a
long time (what happened with Sylvaine in Love You to Death, for
example). Janette finally got the story though. Contrast that ep
with Last Act where Nat almost has to pry out of him that he lost
an "old friend...<of> two, three hundred years". Nat may have picked
up that the "old friend" was more than just an old friend by his
tone or manner, but I doubt whether he talked to Nat much about her.
He may be more forthcoming with Nat now, but I bet he still judges
what he wants to say about his past before saying it.

(Fair warning -- I'm Catholic. My opinions are only mine...<g>)
Nick is a (fallen-away) medieval Catholic.
I think we can agree on this, and I know that the "Baptist" thread
did not begin with an assertion about Nick's beliefs.
He was raised in the medieval Church, and his faith, whatever we may
think of it, was clearly demonstrated in QoH, in his flashbacks to his life
before LC.
Nick's entire view of existence is informed by ideas of damnation,
salvation, sin, and repentance. He was disillusioned when he was taken by
Janette and LC, and for many centuries he tried to set his faith aside, but
it was always there, nagging at him, telling him, first, that taking human
life is wrong, second, that if he really gave up his soul, he's damned, and
third, that if he still has his soul, then he can repent, reconcile, and be
saved.
Nick may now be agnostic, as he was in the flashback of SoB ("If
there is a God, He has not yet revealed Himself to me"). However, I believe
that, for Nick, such an attitude is simply a superficial veneer -- deep down,
he really does believe. Of course, having lived through eight centuries of
change and turmoil, he must certainly have learned that all human
institutions are imperfect -- including the Church, which has (thankfully)
changed a great deal since Nick was mortal. Those changes, rationally,
displaced his faith into his semi-scientific quest for mortality -- but I
don't think they destroyed it.

> Unfortunately for Nick, he lived through the hellfire and damnation
> era/century, and hence has the bad taste of guilt in his mouth.
> Nick's guilt is unwarranted...
Obviously, I don't think it's unfortunate that Nick feels guilty, and,
obviously, I don't think his guilt is unwarrented. He has done some truly
awful things in his long existence, and very few of them were really for
self-defense or even survival. Every one that was not, and many that were,
deserve the respect of real guilt... until they are forgiven, repayed, or
whatever. As they have not yet been.
If we didn't feel guilt when we did something wrong... Well,
actually, the lack of guilt and conscience as a reason for the impending
collapse of society always seems to be getting into the newsmagazines these
days, so I'll leave the topic alone. Suffice to say, Nick's quest for
*redemption* (as opposed to mere mortality) is what first attracted me to
the show. I share many of his views on existence. Of course, whether
Nick and I are right, or LC is, or Janette, or Vachon, or Natalie... :)

I'd have to vote for Reese. While I was pleased to see a female captain,

I for one are dying to see the new episodes. However, a little part of me is
really does not want to see them just yet.

I know once I see the four, there will be no more new ones for a long time to
come. I for one plan on having at least some movies -but how long to wait.

Its nice knowing that I have at least 4 new ones to look forward to. However,
once they pass -what a dry spell that will be.

I hope that we will start discussing the first season episodes as they repeat
on Scifi.

I came on this list when Blackwing first was shown. I have been a fan of the
show since the inception so I have seen all the episodes. However, I can see
from what I got out of the discussions on the 3rd season all the moot points
I may have missed.

I would really enjoy picking apart, analzying the first and second season the
way we did with the third.

I just want to say to everyone how much I really enjoy the FK lists. Without
them I would have gone totally overboard this tax season. The lists kept me
sane (if being a FK addict is sane).

You know you have it bad when you get into a discussion with one of your
students about FK vs the kindred.

Great! I get to post something without a reprimand! Take a picture, this is
a first for me!!!!!
Ok, I just wanted to know if anyone noticed that Tracy looked like she was
"repulsed" by Vachon when he first started touching her. At the very end
she started to "get into it" a little. But when he first started touching
her hair and neck and whispering in her ear she had this look of total
disgust on her face. Now she acts like she likes the guy, actually she acts
like she's head over heels for him, but yet she acts repulsed by his touch.
Another thing, she isnt a very accepting person. Now
everyone here knows that in a relationship, if you care even remotely for
someone, part of the relationship is acceptance, right? Well, she cant even
say the word "vampire" Ok, so maybe she thinks vampires are "bad" things,
and maybe she wishes he wasnt one. But the fact is, He is and if she truly
cares for him she should accept it and get over it.
Well, my mailbox is freshly cleaned and has plenty of room, so
now all the Tracy-ettes or whatever (still can never remember those
factions.) can jump on me about this post.

I just rewatched Blackwing paying special attention to the scene where he
might have bitten her. I don't think he did. Although his eyes as he came up
were glowing, he didn't go to her neck with his fangs bared the way he
usually did. He also didn't have his fangs when he came up or any blood on
his lips/chin. Besides, how would he explain to Jess who was standing over
him (and to the other police who were probably on their way) how the teeth
marks got there.

I think that he did any "exchanges" of blood/killer-instinct/whatever on the
spirit plane as he laid her to rest. Jess knew that he had taken it all back
(or that's what he said) but he didn't say anything about noticing
suspicious vamp marks. Wouldn't have needed vamp marks on the spirit plane.

I have TCI here in Vancouver, WA. We have SciFi Channel (or I wouldn't have
known about where to find FK in the first place. I liked those USA
commercials they played on the SciFi channel.) Of course, it was Columbia
Cable to begin with (and I'll scream bloody murder if they lose the SciFi
channel. That and the Learning Channel are my favorite cable channels.)

ObFK: Now I'm wondering when some of the episodes are going to be rerun. My
husband accidently (unless it was the cats) taped over Games Vampires Play,
Human Factor and Avenging Angel. Argh!

Ummmm... you want her to hand the man she loves a protein shake while
he's doubled over in pain just to *see* if it helps...? :)
Natalie's occasional violations of scientific and medical principles,
are, in the real world, poorly-thought-out plot devices. In FK, they have
all been the results of either emotional involvement or overconfidence, which
have become parts of the personality we know and love. As to scientific
rationalism, Nat *knows* that when Nick is like that, blood helps. She
probably believes that it's to some degree psychological, but she's not going
to just let him suffer... On the other hand, her willingness to give him
blood may be another clue to the evolution of her view of vampirism. Perhaps
NiQ belongs in the progression: DK, OtL, AMPH, NiQ... and Fever?

It's Dying to Know You. When the psychic (can't remember her name) thinks
she's going crazy from visions of Nick's past, Nat tells him he should tell
her the truth. She says "I've known you a year and a half, and I'm not
crazy" (or something close to that).

I felt that was more a matter of, of all the things he has to remember, why
something like that first? Why not something more important?

>I've always had the feeling that he tells Nat
>*a lot* more than we viewers ever get to hear!

I assumed that was a given fact from the first time I saw it, but that's what
happens when you come in at the third season. But I still believe it.

Just want to put in my $.02. While I wasn't there on Sat night, I enjoyed
reading it on Sun morning. I'm not a pay-by-line person (or even a pay
person) so that's not my complaint - although I do understand those who
are.

Just wanted to say, though, that the spontaneous explosion of silliness is
a natural phenonmenon that happens with good friends/family who let their
selves hang loose and get silly. So we're a bunch of good friends/family
here. That's ok by me. It's easy to delete if it gets too much.

Still like it here.

Not for me, I missed ALL of the first season and almost half of the second
so I am very excited about FK being on sci-fi.

Personally, I can't wait, I'm really sick of reruns. I'm only looking
forward to 2, Outside the lines, cuz my tape is messed up, and Human
Factor, which I missed.

Sorry y'all. I wrote that last post on Sunday night. My connection was

sent before I could grab it. It's past the fact by now. Time moves so
quickly on the list...

That's pretty much what we did after getting the run around from TCI
for several years. I was sooo pleased to be able to tell them that I
was dropping their service (except for local stations) in favor of my
new satellite system.
