If you mean Vampires - sure I would, especially if he was blonde and blue
eyed. However, if you mean Cicads - nah - hate the things.

Subject: Fiction Acknowledgements

Hello, fellow fiction readers,

I recently posted a bit of fiction to the FKFIC-L called "One Shift...,"
but, in my excitement and haste, I forgot to include a few very important
acknowledgements, for which I most humbly apologize.

So, I would like now to correct my gross error.

As always, I must thank my editor, AKR -- she's an amiable sort, even though
she won't admit it. <g>

The impetus for the story came from a discussion between Isabella, Jayel,
Apache, and myself. But the story idea itself is Apache's, who is just a
wonder among humanity! She threw out the idea and allowed me the glorious
opportunity to combine two subjects with are near and dear to my heart. And
I wanted to publicly thank her for all that she is and all that she has done.

Most sincerely and humbly,

Bonnela Pardoe
(bonnie@o.......)

And thank you all for allowing me the bandwith to express this. <:-)

Yes, I think he would be a very good spy. After all vampires have so much
experience about blending in, he could move quickly, see in the dark,
whammy information out of opponents.

I could really see him working the underground railroad. Helping move
slaves to the North under the cloak of darkness, finding caves, etc for
people to hide in. Thinking about it, his lifestyle would exactly match
what they would need. They would not think it strange if he didn't go out
in the day, etc.

His military life included his being a runner, so he has experience in
scouting out situations. Plus, if any bounty hunters or owners came looking
for the slaves he could whammy them into believing that they found nothing.

Hey, it seems to be LC's favorite color. Nick and Janette wear black

Naw, I can't see him getting involved at all. He was too busy running from
the Inca and Vachon just doesn't strike me as the "get involved with a human

I think Vachon would have ridden with Mosby's Raiders or something like
that...(NOT Quantrell - MOSBY...) doing wild feats of 'derring-do' for lack of
a better word...

Remember the old Disney flick (title escapes me...) about Mosby? It had Kurt
Russell in it as a young man... They kidnapped a Union General, and all sorts
of other sorts of mischief... I can just *see* Vachon lending a 'hand' in all
this mischief...

Actually in Nick Knight it was a 1959 Cadillac, it originally aired in
1989 and they used the same "19-- Cadillac has more trunk space than
any other car in the last 30 years" line.

and on that note--

YKYBWTMFK when you buy a $7 magazine just because it has a picture of the
Caddy on the cover, it is a yellow Caddy but a 1962 Caddy none the less.
It also includes a page of popular Caddy colors between 1961 to 1964. I
still can't tell if Nick's Caddy would be Lexington green, San Remo
turquoise or Sage?

3. Your Knightie 7 year old is wondering why all vampires can't live off of
cows' blood, when the Cousinly 4 year old shouts, "Cows' blood?! Cows' blood
is STINKY!!" (I didn't quite lose control of the car.)

4. The 7 year old asks me if I've ever tasted blood, and I say of course,
when I've bitten my tongue. She says, "Oh yeah. I've done that too. It
tastes salty...like french fries." So now we know why Nick can eat french

Isn't that another name for cicadas? I'm not sure. I meant those
insects that in the summer gather in trees and make a loud vibrating
sound akin to a radio-controlled plane engine that skips and sputters
out. Well, that's only an approximation as it's a really hard sound
to describe. They slowly start up, make the sound for a while, and
then sputter out again. And then they do it again...and again...and
again. If that's males trying to attract females, I'm glad I'm not
that sort of insect. :)

Nature is full of such wonderful things. At least vampires don't
have to make mating sounds, although I've often wondered if they
have a certain innate "charm" effect that works like some sort of
attractant. Plenty of women have thrown themselves at Nick. Yeah,
we know he's a really cute guy, but gosh some of those women just
get into kissing him on the shortest acquaintance. :)

I guess we should be glad that vamps are like those tropical birds
that hang upside down and make electronic sounds to impress a mate.

is this still merely hearsay and/or opinion? Not that I have any personal

It is. But in order to capture the proper context, the volume would have

would take a delicate and insightful touch. And I'm just talking about the
eight months since I signed on.

How long, pray tell, is 'too long' for a vampire to be in a microwave? :-)
One second, ten seconds, ten minutes, an hour and a half? Or does it
depend on which vampire is in the microwave? And how do you propose to fit
a vampire in the microwave, anyhow?

Chatter, chatter, chatter. We are definitely wasting bandwidth. In the
morning, when it's over, we must all go and chastise ourselves. :-)

That was only that South by the end of the war, actually. I mean, even
though the whole thing dragged out for much longer than anyone expected,
toward the beginning it was the South that kept winning individual
battles, thanks to Lee. So if Vachon was going to stick to the 'underdog'
I'd say he started with the Union and then defected to the Confeteracy...
which would be pretty unlikely.

It took a while before the tide turned in the Union's favor.

But as for Vachon's pov on slavery...I think any man who spent 70 years
fighting on behalf of Natives would have a hard time with slavery.

OTOH, the politically correct notion that the Union was the government of
altruistic intentions, running down south to save the black man from the
evil clutches of cruel white slave owners is revisionist history at
best....so I'd say Vachon, being the master of self-preservation that he
is (and probably still a little tired/disillusioned from his battle
against Upper Canada) was probably *really* smart and said: "To hell with
it" and stayed out of the whole mess.

I think he would stay out of it -- it's a white man's war. (It's
a mortals' war, of course, too, but that didn't stop him before.) If his
sympathies are with the native inhabitants, his attitude would be that
anything that keeps the old roundeyes killing each other is all to the
good. Also, we've seen that he's just naturally hostile to oppression in
more than one form -- he chowed down on the man picking on Urs without a
moment's hesitation -- so, as you remarked, I can't see him siding with a
slave-holding government.

On the other hand, bearing in mind that *both* sides were
slave-holding governments until what, two years into the war? -- maybe he
did side with an underdog South. But somehow I just see him saying "a pox
on both your houses." (England made slaveholding illegal in 1809, if
memory serves -- did Canada follow suit, or was that law just
automatically effective in Canada as a crown colony?)

Somebody (Don Fasig, fellow ListRat?) sent me the URL of something called a
"WebRing", in which a whole bunch of pages on a given subject were linked
together in a big circle, so that you could visit them all in turn by
following a set menu... we could probably do one of those. And it would be
a BIG circle.

Don? I no longer have the URL. Do you? Because if enough people were
interested, that would be a really cool thing...

I am one of htose who has an alredy active listing of FK and Forkni-l
webpage index, but by all emans, feel free to continue your list, I think
the more lists/index's out there, the better, more of a chance for people
to find [accidently or on purpous] FK related stuff! Good Luck!

Vampire crickets? Nick rubbing his legs together like Jiminy Cricket?
Ooooh...you guys are baaaaad. And...I...love...you...all. :-)

That'll be a fourth season episode, where Nick goes on a guilt trip to
Disneyland and finds himself on the couch wearing mouse ears.

Or, for added variety, he could go on a guilt trip to Muppetland, and wake up
as an angsty green frog, singing "It's Not Easy Being Green" and "The Rainbow
Connection."

At an unbelievable hour of the morn, the witty Jamie Melody Randell spoke
with a tongue of gold and sayeth:
>...the Sleepless have arisen to post...

and further down she honored me with her dulcet tones concerning my idea of
the Best of FK-L:
>But...the volume would have to be a thousand pages long...

and still further she spaketh with a sound of small hammers on silver:
>How long, pray tell, is 'too long' for a vampire to be in a microwave?

and in order to not break the "4 line quote rule", but not go under it
either, I again quote her words of joy:

>...we must all go and chastise ourselves...

Tears of joy flow across my face. My dog is staring at me strangely, and
the upstairs neighbors are pounding on the floor/ceiling trying to keep me
quite as peals of laughter ring out across the land.

JamieJamieJamieJamie, I adore thee. Thy image is graven into my mind as
are the faces of Rushmore. Thy can compare to no other. I am lost without
thee. Oh do not pour the wine, I am drunk with the beauty of you. Come
away with me and be my virtual wife and we shall live in splendor and
chocolate forever and a day. (I am, after all, a minister in the Universal
Life Church, and can perform the ceremony on the list with all members in
attendance.)

Well, hell, Jamie, I'd say *any* guy who says all that in front of a
thousand people deserves *something*....not sure exactly what, but
definately something.
