They fuse together like two sides of a coin. Maybe it's something like that. Actually I think Nick makes life interesting for LaCroix. LaCroix has seen everything and done everything. He must be terribly bored. Nick goes out rightly or wrongly and gets involved with humans. LaCroix tells him he's wrong but there must be a part of LaCroix that is wonders himself. In this way Nick serves as LaCroix's link to the human race. They also both like music, They both have a miltitary background. And they've shared a lot together. Nick has a certain loyality to LaCroix (when they're not trying to kill each other) which makes him one of the most reliable of all LaCroix's children LaCroix probably respects the fact that Nick will stand up to him and argue his point. Everyone else gives in including Janette on many occasions. Just a few thoughts.
