I think I read somewhere that a great number of the early French Canadian
settlers originated from Normandy France and as such brought the Normandy
dialect with them.

I read that one and thought that too :) Though I'm in Boise and I
pronounce it Boyzee, let me tell you the native Idahoans (I'm orginally
from California) will -always- point out that it's BOYCee!

Hey Becky, are you in Idaho? Feel free to email me off list, it'd be fun
to know another Idaho FK fan :)

This is probably a very stupid question: should I put the card in
asecond envelope to send it to you?

Most Polish names are not pronounced in the Polish fashion, but the
more phonetic American version. And some simply give up---for
instance, I work with a Polish guy whose first name is Czeslaw
(pronounced "Ches-swaff") who goes by Chez (pronounced "Chezz"). Of
course now he runs into people who want to call him "Shay". Poor guy
can't win.

Also, many Poles, when going through Ellis Island, lost part or all of
their last names. The immigration officers would simply change them to
something "more American." My own great uncle, Jan Dobrowolski, became
"John Roe" when he arrived.

mark at Ellis Island)

Thanks for the correction! The "zee" is how I used to hear it on NPR out of
Boston. Without hearing it at all, I'd have tried pronouncing it "boyz" or
"bwahz"...

Hello & Good Morning Folks,

Sorry to take up bandwidth with my momentary delurk, here.

I was recently in communication with Emily Lacey (sp? oh, dear) at this email
address: laceyem@b.......; (I mean, within the last 7 to 10 days).
Now, I am getting a "no such member" message--or words to that effect (tried
several times to make sure I didn't spell it incorrectly or something...).

Emily, you out there? Or, Dear Listmates, does anyone know of an alternate
address? This is the only one I have, and, the most recent.

Thank you in advance.

Forever yours,
Billie-Lee

Subject: Fic Question - christmas?

Hey -
I have tried looking it up online, but I can't seem to find anything,
so.....
Does anyone know what the status of christmas was around the time
Nick was in Jerusalem? (ca 1220-1225)
I know in medieval times it was kind of more focused on religion and
remembering the birth of christ and such. I am just looking for a
bit more detail.
Does anyone know where I can find this info... like a book, or a
website... or hey - even your own knowledge.
Please reply off list.
Thanks!
-Amanda

I don't know about a puppy. I recall a fanfic by Susan Garrett (I think),
where a goldfish didn't fare too well.

I had a really weird dream a while ago

I was a detectave
me & my partner, scooby doo
were in a hotel room looking for clues
when a guy breaks in with a gun & says

"you're getting too nosey for your own good"
He takes a few shots at me
I shoot back, I actually hit him & he falls down

I step into the hall & suddenally I'm in the dinning room
I guy in a wheelchair and his thugs come out of the kitchen
(I automatically know this is the godfather)

He says "I must thank you for disposing of my assoiate,
he was becoming annoying anyway. But now I must do the same thing to you."
and all the thugs pull their guns out

As he's talking, I can see LaCroix walking up behind him

So I say "Wait, wait . . . . I still have one more ace up my sleve."

Godfather "And what is that ?"

Me "HIM!"

LaCroix bends down & bites the godfather
He screams, I run out the door

I see scooby holding the elevator for me
but before I get there I feel a bullet hit my sholder . . . .
Then I wake up

WEIRD
I think I've been watching too much TV
