Okay guys, there's been a lot on this from one of my
other fandoms due to someone doing basically the same
thing. Obviously, this person is running a buisness
doing this, and it's illegal. Under copyright laws,
what they're doing is selling pirated material. If
you live in the UK, it's illegal to even own them, let
alone seel 'em. It takes a chunk out of the company's
profits and makes it harder to get them to release
more material.

Now, if it was an exchange for blank DVDRs and they
weren't charging, it'd be technically legal--same for
tapes.

Coming from a household where one of the occupants
works as a patent attourney (this sorta stuff is right
up his right up his alley), I would just about
guarantee (for the price this person is asking) that
this operation is NOT legal.
Now if Sony decide to get thier knickers in a twist
over this they would definitely prosecute the person
selling the DVD's, but here's the kicker, (from my
limited knowledge on the subject) they can also take
anyone who has purchased the DVD's to court as well.
And we can only imagine what a court battle with Sony
would cost!

If any Ivan refuges on the list happen to have a laptop with them so are
still on-line, and are in the Central Arkansas area, radio station KARN 920 is
trying to gather local churches to open their doors and their campgrounds to
people fleeing Ivan. The hope is that this will give people less expensive
alternatives for temporary housing and food. I'm not sure of the phone number,
but it should be easy to find it on the web. I was listening on my way home and
they weren't announcing participating organizations yet, but may have some by
now.

You bet your sweet bippy we do! Maybe it won't be the same flavor as in the

Intro first since the Limerick is of questionable quality and I'm
hoping you'll like me before reading it ^_^

Anyway, name's Danii and I've been a Forever Knight fan since the
show's very beginning (1992). Being as I'm 20 years old (senior in
college: English Lit/History major), I've been a fan slightly longer
than half of my life (and that's a scary thought). FK was the first
fandom that I really got into and it's shaped my perception of fandom
to the very core. Other fandoms will always somehow boggle me for not
having named factions, Wars, etc. I was on ForKni-L and FKFIC-L for
about 3 years and then switched email addresses and didn't sign up
again for god knows what reason. My friend Sherri urged me to come
back on and being as last weekend was spent watching the first season
DVDs, I remembered how wonderful this show and the fandom and
everything else was and couldn't argue when she poked me about it.
Thus, here I am.

I'm also a Buffy fan, an IMan fan, and a fan of many different anime
and other shows. I do write fanfiction, but haven't touched FK in
years.

Really glad to be here,
Danii

It just popped in as I was reading one of the others and I

Hi Lisa,

Sorry it took a while for me to get back to you. I have been trying to
check with a friend who is not on the list to see what her plans are.
She has been in Stratford for the last month doing seminars there, so we
have been playing phone tag. We saw Ger in Lear, but I don't think
she's seen him in anything else, and neither of us have seen Nigel in a
play. I, too have seen him at conventions, both times in Toronto, but I
haven't seen him since '96

At any rate, I'm going up over the weekend of the 16. I have off from
the 13th thru the 20th, so I though I'd work in some shopping, etc. I
found some neat places to visit when I was up there for MFL. Which
nights are you going to see the plays? Where are you planning to stay?
If you are going to the opening nights, are you going to the galas at
the Church Restaurant afterward?

It's always the best war when the cannons get broken!

But, seriously, I'm not even Ratpacker but I agree it's just meant to be
fun. Frankly, for me, half the fun in the past has been following up on the
loose ends that were left to dangle, sometimes for years. Remember poor
Cherri and all she had to go through in her cow suit?

I have always preferred, rather than digesting posts, to filter for my nick
and certain key words (Vachon, Vaq, Vaquera) and so on, to make sure that I
noticed the posts I most needed to follow. It's true that the last few wars
have been so big following them is the problem. To be perfectly honest, if
we gave a war and only a couple of hundred people showed up, I would find it
so much easier to follow!

I am going 10/21-10/25 - I am seeing GD on 10/23 (2pm) and DNGG on
10/24 (8pm). Although I am not staying in Stratford. I actually got
a better deal on a nicer hotel in TO, so I am doing the drive both
days. (Figured I *had* to do some driving since I am not driving up
there<g>)
Hopefully, if all goes well (third try is a charm) I am doing the
tour on friday (10/22) with Will. I would love to meet some of the
fans!
Can't wait!

Subject: FK Moment - Stratford 2005

I was reading an article on Playbill onine about Stratford's 2005
season. The theme for next year is "Saints and Sinners" With that I
immediately thought of FK and Nick.
THen I read the following quote from Richard Monette of the Festival:

-------"In the aftermath of 9/11, the world has become a more
polarized place, for many people: a place of good and evil, black and
white," said Monette, in a statement. "As I was selecting the
playbill for 2005, it struck me that many of these plays are about
the tension between the contrary impulses of the human soul. And so
we have a season of plays about 'saints and sinners' for, after all,
each of us is one or the other, and sometimes we are
both."-----------

WIth lines like 'tension between contrary impulses of the human soul'
and 'each of us is one or the other, and sometimes both' made me
think so much of FK. I thought... gee could the do a *live* version
of FK... it fits the theme and hey... it's Canadian. <vbg>

Emily,

A lot of what fans do is illegal, not just in the FK fandom, but other
fandoms too. Fan fiction, musical videos, and manipulated pictures are all
illegal. I would imagine technically that all of the FK pictures posted on
our web sites are illegal too. If you're interested, there's a lot of info
on the internet about the legality of fan fiction. You can find the info by
searching it on 'Google'.

Sony seems to allow us this privilege as long as there's no profit. I'm very
grateful they do because it keeps the wonderful characters alive, and gives
us fans our FK fix. Allowing fans this bit of liberty to use the FK
characters brings new fans into the FK fandom. I have several readers of my
fan fiction that found my work by surfing the internet for paranormal
romance and vampires. They had never heard of Forever Knight until they
started reading my stories. Now they're fans of the show, and have
purchased FK's Season One DVDs.

I can't answer your question because I haven't seen the product listed on
ebay, but if they're making a profit, it's very wrong. I also don't
remember the details of Jean Graham's book, but perhaps she was making a
profit without Sony's approval.

Okay, that's my take on all of this, for what it's worth.

Because they don't know about it, I'm sure. I'm betting Sony lawyers have
bigger things to do than to comb the internet for people running a fairly
penny-ante pirate DVD business. They'd have to be told about it first. Someone
told Sony about Jean's book..

Well, I'm ticked enough to tell someone. If this guy is making $49
for his DVD's, how can I complain when Sony brings them out for $80?
The only reason I got season 1 was because of the error in price. I'm
already saving for Season 2, but since I'm being forced to move 100+
miles away anytime in the next 6 months, I'm not sure I'm going to be
able to actually purchase it when it hits the street.

What's the address to let Sony know?

IMHO, the problem with Jean's book is that it was advertised as a novel, not as
fanfic (as I recall). We are very lucky that so many "PTB" over tv shows turn
their head at fan fiction unless something raises their eyebrows, especially
shows where pro novels are still being produced.

I doubt they've discovered the DVD guy yet, as I do know they've gone after
others on eBay. Well, they may know about it now if they have anyone on this list
<g> Believe me, you can get in SERIOUS trouble for schemes like this if they go
after you. I know of one person this happened to and he told me he was lucky he
got off as cheap as he did, and it still was extemely expensive... He explained
he was going on what others had told him and were doing so didn't realize he
was breaking copyright laws. It wasn't FK, but you never know who they will go
after. And they have every right to protect their properties.
