Seeing the Hampton Inn's new ads with a song from My Fair Lady reminds me of
how it was a year ago I saw Ger in MFL. And it was a year ago the Apple store
I work in opened. I spent opening day in Toronto. I even saw one of the
Dylan Thomas shows. It was great!

I smile every time I see the ads as it's a pleasant Ger reminder. I enjoyed
the whole show. Everyone was really good.

My order was cancelled, as I don't have the money until Sept. 1. I
got my dad's credit card and just tried to re-order the Forever
Knight DVD and it no longer comes up for pre-order.
Just in case anyone else was thinking of ordering from them...

Yes, I actually have been watching a lot of FK. I had a mini
marathon this weekend.
Anyway....

1. While watching the Music Choice channel on digital cable the song
"21st Centurey Schitzoid Man" by King Crimson came on and the blooper
from That Which We Do Not Have finally made sense!!! When Ger messes
up a line and says "13th Century Schitzoid.... a King Crimson title"
(I had never heard of King Crimson, so that flub made no sense to me,
but now I have to go back and watch the bloopers so I can laugh at
it)

2. Tonight while watching Boy Meets Boy, one of the guys - Franklin -
said he wanted to be a wine importer because "someone's life is in
that glass - their sweat, their tears, their blood" I immediately
thought... 'Does he want to be the importer of the special stock at
the Raven?!?!?'

Ok, I have too much FK on the brain.

I just pre-ordered it from amazon.ca late last night. It's still available
(I just double-checked) for "Our Price: CDN$ 29.21". And for only
$9.90-something more I could get free shipping so I grabbed "Jesus Christ:
Vampire Hunter" which is also Canadian, but more B-movie cheese-tastic.

I just checked Barnes & Noble plus Amazon and it is still there. However, has
Amazon not had the cover art available? I swear it did when I pre-ordered
mine (in fact, I went in and cancelled my original order this morning and
ordered
TWO instead)... However, maybe I just didn't notice.

Nope, Amazon never had it. Barnes and Noble was the quickest in that area.
I'm sure they will post the box art soon.

FYI, I just received email from TVshowsonDVD.com confirming the information I
had gotten from Sony that I had previously posted. The SLP for the FK DVDs
has been corrected to $79.95.

Some websites may not reflect the correction yet, but unfortunately I presume
they will. But as far as I'm concerned, the $60 to $65 or so that the set
will likely retail for based on that SLP is still a bargain, given all the time,
effort, and money we've put into trying to get them.

I still disagree it is a "bargain" considering the lack of extras, but as for
being worth it, yes if one can afford it. If they'd been released on VHS with
one or two episode per tape, it'd be more than that.

HOwever, once Amazon cancels my order to resolicited it at the higher price,
I'll have to cancel one of my orders as I can only afford one at this time.
Since I have two ordered, it'll work out about the same.

I thought someone said that Sony's other series weren't this costly, though.

I'm still overjoyed just to be getting them!!! And at least there's a couple
of months to be counting pennies and dimes.

Yep, you were right. ;) DVDPlanet.com lists the correct retail price and has
them on sale for only $55. Not bad at all. The $29.95 retail price did seem
too good to be true, but several online stores are still reflecting the
lower price. I am not sure if the prices people have pre-ordered at will be
honored or not. The stores do have a right to charge the proper price.
However, please remember, we have two more seasons to come. The sales of
this set will determine whether or not they come to DVD. Gord's right. Don't
hold the typo against them. This looks like an awesome set and well worth
the money!

I'm *still* buying 2 sets - one at Amazon.com and one *the day* at Best Buy.

True, they do. I ordered 2 sets from DeepDiscountDVD at $22.06 and free
shipping. My order is still open, and the prices on the account have not
changed, but the DVD set is no longer listed on the website. I have sent
them an email asking if they will honor that price. If/when I hear, I'll
let people know.

Welllllll.... I'm sorry, but I *do* hold it against them. Yes, $29.95 did
sound too good to be true, but a $50 jump in price for a set of DVDs with
NO extras (I don't count trailers that are just as likely to be for other
shows) is a bit much. It's not THAT awesome of a set. Yes, first and second
seasons are my favorites, but without extras??? I'd be willing to pay
around $50-$55 for the set, but if I don't get my deal from
DeepDiscountDVD, I'm canceling my order with them and buying ONE set
locally, and none on-line. Sorry. I don't have that kind of money, either.
I'm glad FK is coming out, and I hope we get the rest of the seasons, but
money IS an issue for a lot of us.

Someone made a comment about many of the "I can't afford the higher price"
emails sounding like the people writing them believe that Sony should slash
the price so more people can afford it. (Please forgive me if I'm
misquoting here, as I'm running on memory, which isn't so good these days.)
Anyway, I don't think that's true of anyone who wrote, myself included.
It's just a sad fact of the economy these days that if the price is raised
to nearly $80, many of us WON'T be able to afford the set, or will have to
wait and save our pennies.

Darn! I hate these soapboxes. Getting off now.

I personally am not saying I think Sony should lower the price to be nice to
us because we can't afford it. I'm just saying to me $80.00 is too much to
pay for one season of FK no matter what price other series are going for. And
$240.00 for all three seasons is much more than I would be willing to pay. And
the fact is, if they keep the price lower, they will sell more sets and make
more money. I am a loyal FK fan, but there is still a limit to what I am
willing or able to pay.

Please note that $79.95 is the *retail* price. If you look at other series,
you will notice that they all sell quite a bit below that (about 25% off or
more). For example, Forever Knight is already listed at the retail price of
$79.95 at dvdplanet.com. It is on sale for only $55. I am estimating that
the FK Season 1 Set will fall between the $50-$60 range on all the online
stores and Best Buy.

I haven't seen any "negative" posts at all - just very truthful "I can NOT
afford that" posts. Some of us have adult responsibilities such as
mortgage/rent, utilities, food, etc. Some of us don't have jobs right now. And
most of the
posts I've seen have said people are merely canceling multiple orders and just
ordering ONE because that is all they afford.

If you can afford to order multiple sets, why not offer it to someone who has
said they are out of work right now.

The only reason I think the price is high is the lack of extras. I've never
seen a set without extras for this much. However, I still say the price is in
line because if they'd issued the episodes on single tapes at and average of
$10 per episode (which would usually have been $14.95 in the US), then that
would be $220 for a 22 episode season. But that doesn't mean everyone here can
afford to rush out and by the DVD set. If you don't have the money, you don't
have the money.

But with a "now that I know" attitude, I know to save my pennies. I just
can't buy multiple sets. There's nothing that is going to change the fact
someone
doesn't have money. Just as I can't go to LCA because I can't afford it, I
can't buy multiple sets, just as someone can't afford to buy ONE set right now.
I had two ordered which now will be just under the price one would have cost me
so I have no hesitation in ordering it.

Period. End of story. Money does not grow on trees.

Nothing "negative" about that - it is just the truth. People who can afford
it but are saying they don't want to pay that much for it also aren't truly
being negative, they are just stating a fact.

No big deal. That's their opinion. Not everyone would pay $250 for a dead
prop rat, either. No big deal<wRPg>

Nothing against Sony. Nothing against Forever Knight.

I'm still looking forward to the release. I'll still be able to get the first
set (but just one) in October and will save my money for the next releases.

I'm not worried about Sony failing to release the next two. Why? This is
clearly advertised as "The Forever Knight TRILOGY." Trilogy equals three. They
are still going to sell plenty, just not as many as they would have at a lower
price.

I was also waiting for this shoe to drop. I buy series dvd quite frequently
and 29.95 is simply unheard of for an hourlong drama. I paid 39.95 for 22
episodes of Malcolm in the middle.

I have season one and two of due south, each for about $79 canadian,
(probably 50-55 american), they are on double sided disks, which I really
dislike,
but contain only a French track and scene selections. But all the episodes are
there, uncut, and in the end, tho all the extras are fun, I want the show, as
it was meant to be seen. And if they can pull together some deleted scenes or
bloopers or whatever for a later release, cool. If not, I will get over it.

AMEN! My feelings exactly. I thought $29.95 was too low, yet was rather "sticker
shocked" at $79 - until I realized it won't really be $79 as this lil' Ratpacker
doesn't buy anything at retail when she can avoid it.<g> It is still far cheaper
than professional VHS tapes would have been, and I don't have to worry about my
vcr eating the tape.

I was "figuring" around $50 when they first announced the DVDs, and I don't
expect to have to pay much more than that. I honestly think there should be
extras for that $79, BUT I'll also get over it. Frankly, once I watch the
extras, I've watched the extras and it is the episodes themselves I watch over
and over (on Angel and Buffy).

I'm also looking forward to being able to clear out all those unmarked video
tapes I have but was scared to toss for fear I'd be throwing out FK episodes<g>

A plus for those who don't have DVD players is that I'm sure some of us who do
have them will be trying to find homes for video tapes for just the cost of
postage.

I think my main concern is that Sony is setting us up.
We've been asking and doing everything we can to get the idea across
that we want DVDs of the show and anything else that they will give
us: cards, shirts, hats, posters, underwear, ANYTHING!

Then, when Sony finally gives us the DVD of the first season, no one
buys it (or not enough people buy it at, to us, their impossibly high
price) so they cancel all plans (if there are any) to give us more,
since they didn't get enough response for the first set.

>I'm not worried about Sony failing to release the next two. Why? This is

I understand that. You understand that.
I'm not sure Sony will understand that when everything boils down to
the almighty dollar.
Although I will defer to your optimism here. <G>

And, as someone's tag line says, Forever means Forever! Sony didn't
quite understand that "forever" and "three years" aren't quite the
same. Six, seven, ten years is more like "forever" in TV land.

Anyway, I'm glad my dad will spoil me enough to buy me a set if I
can't afford it. He's already saying to call it Christmas. What would
I do without my dad?

The good news is that as time passes, prices on DVDs go down, and
used-but-still good disks and disk sets show up at Amazon surprisingly
quickly.

A bit of nostalgia: In the olden days (put a quaver in the voice, here) most
videotapes were not launched priced for the general public. They came out
priced high for the rental operations--and after Erols et al. had had a
chance to make their money, the cost of new tapes plummeted to affordable
levels.

Frankly, FK is a very small fish in a very large business. Sony people are not
sitting around going, "Let's get Forever Knight fans!" Instead, they are out to
get money. THey would not be releasing the DVDs if they did not expect them to
make money. There are smaller organizations who might do it to take a loss for
tax write-off purposes, but I think Sony is much too large and powerful to need
that - plus, it'd be an itty bitty little tax write-off hardly worth noticing.

Hmmmm... Sounds familiar, but I'm not calling Sony "Uncle." hahah!<wRPg>

So, Sony is NOT out to "get" Forever KNight fans. They just want our money. And
even with the increase in cost of the DVDs (which isn't an increase if this is
what it was intended to be in the first place), it looks like they will be
getting our money.

I'd sure hate to be the employee who released the information with "$29.95 SRP,"
though. That really should have been caught BEFORE the information was given to
the merchants. And, no, I do NOT think that was anything other than a mistake on
someone's part because otherwise Sony would have the MERCHANTS angry at them (it
is a big pain to notify all the pre-orders of the change, and then change the
websites). The merchants are the ones supplying the DVDs to the fans, they are
the ones placing the initial orders (thus the ones giving Sony money). You don't
want to upset the merchants<g>

Took the words out of my mouth, Libs! However much we might like to demonize
Sony, they really don't care about us as FK fans. They will not do anything
unless it is profitable---and that's as it should be, because that's how
business works. It's not a charity.

mistake on someone's part <snip>

It was obviously a typo---I've often mistaken a "7" for a "2" when reading
someone's lousy handwriting. (I envision the clerical person scanning the
scribbled notes of the marketing person after being instructed to type the
announcement---"Hmm, looks like a two, sounds reasonable, yeah, it's $29.95."
and then the marketing person doesn't proof the announcement because there's
yet another meeting to go to...ah, life in cube-land. <g>)

I don't care if there are extras or not. Realistically speaking, the only extra
we might conceivably get is the wrap reel (and I'd love a decent copy of that!)
because that's what Sony owns. Anything they didn't shoot or pay to have made
would not appear on the DVDs, because it's too expensive to secure the
copyrights to them and get the legal stuff settled. FK is simply too old for
anything besides the wrap reel to be readily available. Fine with me!

Oh...this is *so* me. I literally have over 100 FK tapes (fewer now that
I've sent you the PAL ones...) :-)

Thank you for being all reasonable; I've been ready to set people on fire
over all the platitudes and whining of the last few days.

They still do; Electric Dreams is still priced 79.99 on amazon.com for the
VHS tape.. That's ONE tape, not a series such as FK.

I was hoping to pre-order the FK DVD, but I'll have to wait until November
now.

I think if the pre-orders are any indication, the sales will be fine. and
the price is not "impossibly high", it is in line with every other 22 episode
set that is out there on the market. In fact, I have seen some 13 episode DVD
sets priced in the 50-75 range. Or how about 17 episodes of the Prisoner for
$119.00?? If you really cant afford it, wait a month and it will be on
half.com or your local Coconuts used, at a considerable discount. This is how I
got
the first season of Buffy, Angel and other series that I couldnt afford
outright.

Hi, Gang ~

I understand the concept of making a fair profit, etc.,
but a seller usually has to honor the advertised price.
I ordered a set from Amazon.com on 8/15/03, and the total
was $25.44 {w/shipping}.

In Texas, at least, I think it goes something like this:
If Amazon cancels my order while it has the same item in
stock, that's misrepresentation. If Amazon tries to make
me pay a higher price than the price quoted when I ordered
the item, that's fraud.

Amazon could change the price on all new orders, but it really
should honor the lower price on orders already placed.
Otherwise, it makes for very bad customer relations.

I've used this argument with other sellers successfully;
we'll see if it works with Amazon, huh?

Whoops - I forget the last paragraph, sorry:

Price aside, after begging and begging, and then waiting
for so long, there's no way I WOULDN'T find a way to get
the Forever Knight DVDs!

Heck, I live on a fixed income, because I'm permanently
disabled. But the DVDs have an expected release date of
10/27-11/03, so at least that provides a few weeks to
scrape up some money. {Time to raid the penny jar, sell
books, make jewelry, whatever it takes.}

I agree with the people who have stated that it's
important that we buy the DVDs, now that we're finally
getting a chance to acquire them.

Subject: Barnes and Noble Review - Extras??

Hi guys,

Just saw this review posted today by "Barnes and Noble" :

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=2BAHF7AJYU&ean=433
96012912&FRM=0

Quote: Grievously mourned by its fan base after its cancellation in 1996,
Forever Knight captured viewers' imaginations with an unlikely combination
of traditional cop storylines and stylish goth trappings. The protagonist,
Toronto homicide detective Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies), is actually an
700-plus-year-old vampire atoning for his sins with good police work as he
pursues leads in an ongoing attempt to become mortal again.
*The 5-disc set includes 15 of the series' finest episodes, plus
commentaries by cast and crew.*

Obviously, the 15 episodes is an error, but what about the talk of
"commentaries by cast and crew?" I thought we weren't getting any extras
except "Trailers" that are likely not FK ones...Can anyone verify this? I
will ask Gord at tvshowsondvd too...

Hopeful,
Kristin

It says "commentary by cast and crew" but it is strange none of the fan clubs
have posted that their actors have been called in to record the commentary. Any
representatives here who know?

Also, the review says "15 episodes." That is NOT the full first season. If that
bit of information is wrong, I wonder about the rest. After all, apparently the
first "release information" for this product had the wrong price on it (as we
all know so well).

I think what this means is "Interviews" from the past. I know Geraint did
many of them for FK, mostly shown in Canada. I would love to have these in
good quality.

It doesn't make sense for them to call the set "Trilogy" and only release
part of season 1, part of season 2, etc. It sounds like all 3 seasons as a
whole, each a piece of the trilogy. Also, the cover art for the back of the
box lists all 22 season 1 episodes included. There will be extra compression
though for them to be able to cram all 22 on only 5 discs. It should have
been 6 discs.

I don't know about the extras but I think the review meant the 15 best
episodes not that it has only 15 episodes

They could mean that 15 of the episodes on the disks
are among the finest, not that they're are *only* 15
episodes on the disks.

<shrug>

This explanation is just a shot in the dark, but if so
it's really poor writing and they ought to fire their
copy writer/editor.
