When I was tossing mail at my job this evening, I picked upa package and in
large letters in the From area was LACROIX
Thats it. no first name...

My first thought was, "So Lucian's living in massachusetts now eh?"

Definetely, if not from a very poor familiy, most
Roman children received at least a basic education of
reading, writing and arithmatics. The boys would then
receive further education while the girls were trained
in housekeeping. But the literacy factor in comparison
with the middle ages was rather high.

Refering to Nick and Janette:

True, boys who were to become Knights were send away
from home for training (usually at age 7)but their
pre-military training included reading, writing ,
music, dancing and playing chess. So Nick probably
knew but noone would have expected him to be a
bookworm, basic knowledge was enough. And it is known
that a lot of kings (Charlemagne for instance)never
amounted to much more than their name because their
arm muscles were deformed from fighting, they simply
broke the quills.

Real military training didn't start before 13 or 14
years of age, a boy must have been strong enough to
lift his sword.

As Janette was from a noble family ( I guess she said
that in Afwtd, or Lacroix) I think she would have been
able, too

Not, of course, that any sunbeam is good news for FK vampires. :)

For the writer of the Fan-Fic...

I think a good variation of John Edwards would be
Edward Johns. People would figure it out quickly and
it by-passes those pesky lawyers!
