Forgive this onlist posting but my modem's dead so I'm using another
computer. If this is an adult story, then I have part or all of it. It will
be sometime next week before I'll have the time to look for it.

I too have lost stories and it really, really, really, sucks! Once I lost
one that I'd written probably about a page of and was just about to save,
when.... the power did one of those microblips and it was just enough to shut
off the computer and the story was lost. This was before I had any of those
programs that autosave every so often. You can still lose stuff with that
feature, but not as much.

I too have lost the contents of disks I wanted. I really, really, really hate
when that happens!

My parents, dad especially, hated me wasting my time with my FK fic and was
on my case about it. Then he actually read one I'd sent in to the final issue
of Deb Duchene's fan club newsletter and realized I was good. So he's been
pretty quiet about it since then. And my putting out and selling out my zine
Coroner Tales didn't hurt matters any either.

BTW, there is a way you can lock your disks so they can't easily be erased.

I wrote a Halloween using the Goth look as costuming ideas for some of the
characters and did go for the rather stereotypical black hair, piercings,
lots of jewelry, black clothes, black nails, etc.

I know KC raves about several authors (mostly Nick/Natpackers). There is
one she recently told me about, so I *had* to go and read it, and I
really liked it! It was by 'Senmut' and it was on the www.fanfic.net
site. It's called 'Flashback', and it is an FK/War of the Worlds Xover.
He has others on that site too, that are good.

A lot like sympathetic magic :) And yes, that's another interesting thread
we can spin in the FK-verse. (Is vampirism partly sympathetic magic? The
whammy: hypnosis or magick? Can religious magick counter vampirism? etc.)

Flashbacks of "Cherry Blossoms" come to mind... but then, is that saying
that Nick is really a female? That the old man/witness was gay? That- (Oh,
my mind spins...)

I suggested Klaus, having in mind Ger's role in Dracula: The Series. The
winner, chosen by Nigel, was Anemia. The submitter was a nurse, I think. :)
However, the dog appeared in a subsequent book under the name Prospero.

Yes, but I thought it was a discussion, you see, and I thought it was
likely that Natalie was right, and the problem was just in Nick's head
("Nothing there is, but thinking makes it so"). In the third season,
especially with the demon-possession episode, it seemed obvious that
God was real (not religion, you see, but the actual forces behind
religion) and that damnation was a vampire's part. Also, in the third
season, other supernatural things became 'real'. I was disappointed in
this, because it killed the discussion.

I saw those episodes with Ger in them at a friend's
house. Isn't Klaus also Van Helsing's son who is
brought over by Lucard?
Unfortunately the episodes ended at a point where
Klaus became mortal again by stepping through some
kind of portal (he also got a cute change of clothes,
I thought Ger looked awfully like Pinocchio becoming a
real boy) and before father and son could rejoice,
Lucard reached out and grabbed Ger's (err, Klause's)
hand and they disappeared back into the portal. My
friend didn't have any of the subsequent episodes. So
is that how it ends? Was the show cancelled after that
cliffhanger?
I actually liked that show very much and thought
Klaus' character was so similar to Nick (well a dark
Nick maybe) but I can imagine if they had continued
the story and he was in fact brought back across by
his master again, their relationship would have been a
lot like Nick and LaCroix.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks!

I have to agree with liv on that one. In the first two
seasons it wasn't clear whether vampires were cursed
individuals, infected human beings or simply a new
breed. That uncertainty was what made the show unique
and different from other vampire shows. They even
thickened the suspicion further in episodes such as
C&C. But then in the third season they pulled a
Buffyish sort of trick on us and turned Toronto into
Sunnydale with vampires and ghosts and demon
possessions. Not that there is anything wrong with
that; it's just that to me, that wasn’t what the show
initially intended.

There's an episode after that that has a sequence of flashbacks from the
series. At the end, Klaus comes up to the door and greets his dad saying,
"Hi dad, can I borrow your neck?" grinning with fangs. So, he ended up back
as a naughty vampire. Yes, "Dracula the Series" was very funny. I have pics
and movies from it on my GWD page.

Subject: James Parriott's new show

I'd like to urge everyone to watch The American Embassy, this show was
created by James Parriott.

It premieres her in the States on March 11, I'm sorry, I don't know yet
whether it will be available in Canada or abroad.

For anyone wishing to discuss the show, I've begun a mailing list over on
yahoogroups.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TV_AmericanEmbassy/join

Here's a brief description, followed by the web page address for the show.

THE AMERICAN EMBASSY

THE AMERICAN EMBASSY, the highly anticipated one-hour
drama produced by Jersey Television and 20th Century Fox
Television, follows the adventures of EMMA BRODY, a young
woman determined to make a new start after a failed
   relationship.

Emma, played by film and Broadway actress Arija Bareikis
("Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo," "The Last Night of Ballyhoo"),
leaves friends, family and even her own country behind to take
a job as a vice consul at the United States Embassy in London.

During Emma's first week, she contends with a host of unique
characters and unusual circumstances that test her courage,
confidence and personal convictions. As if trying to bridge the
cultural gap wasn't enough, Emma becomes embroiled in a
love triangle with two British Lords and a CIA Agent (David
   Cubitt).

At work, Emma often fumbles in front of her boss, the
fast-talking Consul General ELQUE POLK (Jonathan Adams).
However, she receives encouragement's from the Deputy Chief
JANET WESTERMAN (Helen Carey), and laughs from Vice Consul
CARMEN JONES (Davenia McFadden). Her new abode is also an
adjustment as she learns to deal with her roommate LIZ
   SHOOP (Reiko Aylesworth) and a cross-dressing next-door
neighbor, GARY FORBUSH (Michael Cerveris). Emma's self
doubts and anxieties spring to consciousness in her daily
e-mails to her sister Jules back home.

Part of Emma's experience abroad is dealing with the
international pressures of being an American citizen in a
foreign land. Bailing out Americans is part of the job
description, thwarting international terrorism however, was not.

Shot on location in the heart of London, THE AMERICAN
EMBASSY provides a contemporary and sometimes geopolitical
look at a young single woman abroad in pursuit of personal
and professional happiness as well as a unique blend of
   American patriotism.

THE AMERICAN EMBASSY is produced by Jersey Television and
20th Century Fox Television. James Parriott is the creator and
executive producer. John Landgraf, Danny DeVito, Michael
Shamberg and Stacey Sher are also executive producers.
