I'll faithfully stand up. <g> I'm a tried and true Natpacker and I don't
deny the ending to LK. (I would have preferred the happy ending where Nick
became mortal and married Nat, but with the dark, gloomy direction the third
season was taking, I knew this type of ending was optimism on my part.) What
I believe is that Nat died shortly after the first and only draining in the
show and Nick was staked, regained his lost faith, found his salvation and
went into an afterlife with her. In fact, my story Defending My Unlife
reflects just that, an afterlife with N&N where Nick must defend his angst
state to a panel of judges. (In the original movie, Defending My Life, the
guy had fear issues.) I just changed the issue to reflect Nick's
weakness-guilt. I also had many issues about faith, absolution etc..<g>

intent of the series. :-)

Absolutely! And if I may, I would like to add something. Even if we base
our discussion on the viewed airings in the series, IMO, Nick's intent was
still to move on with Natalie into an everlasting life (the mortal way), to
end his earthly life. In fact, regardless of the sequence of LC's speech
with the positioning of the stake (whether LC recites the monologue in its
entirety, then Nick hands him the stake or whether the speech is broken up
where Nick hands him the stake in the middle of the speech and LC sets it
aside for a moment, continuing his dialogue, then picks it up again, IMO,
the outcome is the same. Eventually, after the speech, LC raises the stake
above Nick again and says, "Damn You Nicholas." Whether LC kills Nick or
whether Nat dies is naturally debatable, however Nick's sole objective was
to have "eternity in a mortal way with Natalie." (to repeat Nancy's words.)
"This would be a beginning, not an end." and "I have that faith, too."
(Nick's words in LK)

I couldn't agree more and they were beautifully written.

Absolutely! And if I may, I would like to add something. Even if we base
our discussion on what is seen in the aired series, Nick's intent was still
to move on with Natalie into everlasting life (the mortal way), to end his
earthly life. In fact, I disagree with Kristin on the way everything was
played out in LK. The LK script indicates that LC's monologue at the
end-what I like to call the peach speech <g>-was meant to reflect the
beginning of his long dialogue, with the guilt, love and moving on issues
being addressed after that part of the speech. Rather than repeat the entire
monologue, the writer elected to shorten it down to what the viewer saw and
heard. Then, Nick got up from his kneeling position with the stake, handed
it to LC, and they went from there.
My point being in explaining this sequence of events is that IMO, Nick did
not leave Natalie and move on with LaCroix,

Besides, the Romeo-and-Juliet scenario doesn't exclude NNPackers---just read
Mary Combs' Heaven series. Lovely, romantic stories!

Howdy fellow list members,

I was wondering if anyone has seen Amanda Berendt lately or can pass along
her e-mail address. She posted a note recently (that's a relative term, I
know - probably two months ago!) saying that she was going to My Fair Lady
at Stratford. So, I replied to volunteer to give her an FK tour of Toronto
(yes, I'm actually planning to get up to the area around that time of the year).

Anyway, my e-mail (and subsequent e-mails to her) have bounced, which is weird.

I'll post my relatively short note to her here, and also present you all
with an idea that's been going around in my tiny little brain lately...

You may not remember me, but during the summer of 2000, you contacted some
friends of mine to ask me to give you a filming sites tour of Toronto.
Although we were never able to make contact, I have kept you in mind as
someone who might be interested in a tour at some future time.

As it turns out, there is an excellent possibility that I will in Stratford
during late July for Ger's play, and as you know, Toronto is a relatively
short drive (2 hours, maybe 3) from Stratford, so I was interested in giving
a tour to some of the play attendees if they're interested.

If you'd be interested, please let me know. Thanks.

W.

With this in mind, some of you on the list will remember that we had two
"mass get-togethers" during the mid 1990's (wow, it seems like just
yesterday!) where over a hundred fans converged on Toronto for plays.
First, there was Deborah Duchene in "The Winter's Tale", and then came "The
Shrewthering", where we converged to see Ger starring in "Taming of the
Shrew" (along with appearances from many supporting characters in FK,
including Richard "Brother Matthew" MacMillan, and I think even Colm Feore -
I don't know about him for sure, but I do recall seeing the former -
delivering pizza to the stage during the play, no less!!!!!!)

That said, this seems like an ideal venue for another "mass get-together".
Granted, the time period during which Ger will be appearing is relatively
long (several weeks, if I am not mistaken), and many fans have already
bought tickets. However, I'm sure that a significant number of fans may not
have already bought tickets, or those who have already done so just happened
to have purchased them during a relatively close-together period of time.
(Wishful thinking maybe). Or, how does July 28th sound?

Let me stop babbling for a second (since Andy does a good enough job of that
on his own, having learned well from his daddy) and just say this - if
anyone is interested, perhaps let the rest of us know, and also let us know
the approximate date(s) that you're available (or the date(s) for which you
have already bought tickets). If there's enough interest, I'll try to get
something together - or perhaps hoist the job on someone who's a little bit
more organised than I am. :-)

W.

P.S. : How would the idea of calling this get-together "The Pygmalion-ering"
sound? MyFairLadyering? Ladyering? Fairthering? Okay, I didn't think
so. :-(

MMm. Must have been a bunch of blind, deaf enunches

You Know You've Been Watching Too Much FK When....

On another list someone mentioned they've taken over a site called All
Things Rat, about Krychek on the XFiles, and it gives you images of
Screed/Krychek slash. {shudder}

Just thought I'd pass along the nightmare. Besides, we all know Screed
has *much* better taste than that. ;-)

YUCK!

What is even stranger is that Nick Lea (is that the actor's name, if not, I've
just embarrassed myself again) and Greg Kramer were both in the Canadian tv
series' John Woo's Once a Thief. The "guy who played Krychek" was a star, Greg
a regular. In one episode, "Krychek's" character gets called "rat boy" as an
in-joke, and I've always thought they missed another obvious in-joke by not
having Mr. Murphy (Greg's character) respond too.

Subject: Series Intent

Patty C. quoted:

>Absolutely!

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you both. Given FK's notable
inconsistencies and the lack of a series 'bible', I don't believe there was
any 'original intent' at all (unlike, say, LEXX, where the creators have
said that they've known the ending of the series from the very beginning).
I think the original concept was simply 'vampire cop' and that the other
characters and situations were built around that.

Remember that, in the original movie, the coroner was male. I'm inclined to
believe that when the series was being put together the part was changed to
that of a female in order to give Nick a continuing love interest as is
standard in most episodic TV. Also, the stand-alone nature of the episodes
indicates to me that there was no 'intent' until the middle of the third
season when it became clear that this was the final season--whereupon
Parriot's intent became to kill everyone off.

I dislike--nay, I detest!--LK primarily because the series was one of hope:
Nick had difficulties and setbacks, but he struggled on and learned
something about humanity in the process. LaCroix' repeatedly warned Nick
that he was heading for destruction--and LK simply proved that LaCroix was
right.

*WARNING: The following is my own OPINION and is not intended to offend
anyone nor to start a flame war:*

As far as Nick and Nat being together in eternity, the Bible says that in
heaven, "there is neither marriage nor giving in marriage." Now, I mean no
offense to anyone's religion and I'm aware that there are many, many
interpretations of the Bible and the tenets of Christianity, but the way I
was raised (Russian Orthodox and Lutheran, FWIW) taught that one did not go
immediately to Heaven after death, but that when the Second Coming of Jesus
brought about the Resurrection, *then* the bodies and souls together would
be lifted up to Heaven.

All right. You guys just made my life a whole lot
gloomier ;) Well, you are NatPackers and you have
every right to decide what happens to Nat after LK.
But, please, could we at least keep Nick alive? <g> I
could take him home, let him rest a little, give him
some...juice. But seriously, I myself don't like LK's
ending with Nick dead. He is the lead character,
regardless of our affiliations, and his survival is
crucial to the continuation of the show. I personally
can't imagine a fourth season with Nick and Nat both
in heaven.
