Youd be amazed how this works. Ive lost count of how many times I have
charmed my teachers into giving me a passing grade. Also their was another
one, where you start to bawl. Usually works like a charm, providing it isn't
the final in A PE class..

I bought my copy through Science Fiction Continuum, an online shopping site.
It's still being advertised so you may find it there yet. And it's only
14.99, which isn't a bad price.

Have you checked your local Wally World? The Wal-Marts in Canada have
been selling the Nick Knight DVD for under C$10. Even with Canadian
taxes that still works out to only about US$8. Personally, I don't think
the Rick Springfield version is worth much more than that. <g>

I can totally see Vachon taking math, physics, chemistry, and engineering
courses. According to Urs in Black Buddha, he's fascinated by machinery,
that's one reason she gives explaining why he loves to fly.

Personally, though, I think Vachon would NOT be studying for his final. He
would probably be down at the Raven, hanging out with Urs (inadvertently,
but not intentionally, keeping her from studying) and just chilling. And he
would be doing this because he would have already put in the time, aced all
his mid-terms, and become as comfortable with the subject matter as he is
with himself.

You see, Mr. Slacker is only an act -- it gives Vachon the advantage because
people tend to misjudge him, underestimating his intelligence and abilities.

There's even a story about it -- called "One Shift, Two Shift, Red Shift,
Blue Shift" -- which can be found here

The only "Big Lots" stores I've seen are in southeastern Virginia (Frank's
mom is an afficionado of the chain)... so I guess at this time we have
confirmation for Arkansas, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Texas. Any more?

Up our way (NY/NJ) the biggest job-lot chain is "Odd Job", but my local
branch is still inaccessible (even to the store owners) due to WTC
rescue/recovery efforts, and the nearest one to Frank has recently closed.
'Course, I miss the *original* "Job Lot and The Pushcart, Inc." that was
the Financial Districts big job-lot draw in the mid-to-late '70's...

Big Lots, Inc. (was formerly Consolidated Stores until they sold off the
Kay-Bee Toys unit) operates in 46 states under multiple names: Odd Lots, Big
Lots, Pic 'N' Save, and Mac Frugal's. All the stores will be changing to the
'Big Lots' title over the next two years. Anyway, any of the stores operating
under one of these names could potentially have a copy of 'Nick Knight' on hand
for interested FK fans as they have the same market inventory.

Would not normally know these little details but just completed a case study
which included an overview of all retailers on the Fortune 500 (Big Lots is
#488).

I know at least 4 cities in Indiana that have Big Lots stores. Our local
store doesn't carry very many videos, tho. I don't get to the stores in
other cities very often, so I don't know what kind of selection they have.

Very funny Sunny! Actually I could see one of those
"Really Nicholas" dialogues happening between Nick and
Lacroix. Something along the line of:

  Scene:
Nick in loft or in library. Reading everything he
can and angsting whether he will remember it all or
not. Lacroix enters and says: "Really Nicholas, how
many times must I tell you this is so unnecessary. If
you would use the gifts that I bestowed on you, this
would be a simple matter. Read it once and it is
yours."
Nick would probably say: "Lacroix, why can't you
just leave me alone? I want to pass this test as a
human. I do not want to use "the gifts you bestowed
on me"."
Lacroix would leave, after some parting jibe. I
can't think of what that would be. Maybe someone else
could.  ;}
Neat idea, even if I am not a student. Phylis

Totally agree with this. Applied engineering all the way! Many conquistadors
had additional trades and skills important for survival and establishing a
colonial presence when crossing oceans to foreign lands - navigation,
shipbuilding, carpentry/architecture - all which involve understanding of
facets of math, physics and engineering. Geez, Vachon could probably make
suggestions for the improvement of his Triumph's engine design!

And like Bonnie Kate said, I do not see Vachon under any pressure to study for
finals. Would have totally kept up over the course of the semester/quarter, for
would only take a class if actually interested in learning all he could about
the material. And no doubt he would end up knowing far more than he would let
on through his exam answers, for he wouldn't feel the need to prove that he's
the top student in the class.

<snip> There's even a story about it -- called "One Shift, Two Shift, Red

http://www.ScreedWasHere.com/fanfic/urs.html <snip>

This is an excellent, classic FK fanfic, and illustrative that intelligence can
be introverted as well as extroverted!

Oh, and re: Sunny's mention of fine arts courses - think Vachon would avoid
the art surveys...just in case they had 'Nipple Tweaking Painting Day'! Yikes!

The one in Benton, Arkansas VERY seldom has videos, and this is the first
time I've seen DVDs there - and there were probably less than 20 in the out
of the way shelf. I just was driven to look through them all as I'm a movie

Seriously, I bought a copy off of eBay today. A search for Nick Knight will
bring up 21 copies. Only two pop up under Forever Knight, so I'm guessing most
sellers don't know what they have.
