Reminds me of the old "Toys R Us" theme song. You should have a
"Ratpackers R US" filk for the next war. Heh heh.

It goes back a bit further than that, I'm afraid. In the musical "Peter
Pan", there's a song, "I Won't Grow Up" (or something like that).

Subject: Why Nat's birthday can NOT be April 14th

In rewatching Last Knight for the first time since it's orginal airing I
discovered why Natalie's birthday can NOT be April 14th!

Having been in Toronto once during the end of April, and seeing pictures from
when I lived in Buffalo, NY as a tot.... it still snows then. It was
flurrying on me during my trip to Toronto.

If you watch Only the Lonely Natalie not wearing a coat and is enjoying the
warm summer day. I believe it's her who says it's a summer day. People are
flying kites, having picnics. And there might've even been someone in shorts.

This is NOT what you'd be wearing or doing if it was April. People would be
in coats and indoors not outside enjoying the warm weather. So, this means
that it is some time other than April, and June does fit the weather pattern.
I checked the Toronto weather the other day to see what it was like for my
upcoming trip there and was pleased to see that it's about the same there as
it is in Florida right now.

Actually, the University College of Cape Breton (UCCB) changed it's name
after they were permitted to offer both university and college
courses. You can receive diplomas, degrees or certificates there. I'm a
former grad (BACS in 1996) and current student (Theatre Arts certificate)
there. I live about 30 min. drive away from the campus :)

Well, I live in Minneapolis---and April can be anything from snowy and cold to
85 degrees and gorgeous. I suspect Toronto is much the same (and it's further
south than Minneapolis). Moreover, when it gets nice in the spring, Minnesotans
break out the shorts, sunbathe, and act like it's July---and the temp might be
60 degrees. Heck, I've seen people in bathing suits at the lake sunning
themselves when it was cooler than that, and runners in shorts and t-shirts when
it's 45 degrees out. (When I visit my friend in Tucson in February, she's amused
at my capering around in shorts when it's 65 degrees outside--she doesn't wear
shorts until the temp hits 90 at least. But to me, coming from 30 below, it's
positively tropical. Everything is relative.)

That said, as I recall that scene at the lake, I would put the time of year
slightly later than April because the trees seem to be fully leafed out. Even a
warm April day can't hurry along nature, and trees like maples and elms don't
lose their yellow-green spring foliage until June or so, at least in my Zone 4
climate.

Hello All;

As for Nat's birthday being on April 14th.
I've lived in Canada all my life and in
Toronto on occasion, having went to York
University in the 70's. The weather is so
changeable in April you could be in parkas
one week and sleeveless blouses the next.

Heck, the first year I was at York (1974)
March was so warm we were running around
in shorts and on April 1st a blizzard shut
down the city. Weather, it's always fun and
weird.

Me, too. Actually, I live in a Western suburb of the metro area. I
went to college up in Moorhead, (which is next to Fargo, but on the
Minnesota side of the border). I remember that it could be in the
70's in April, if we were lucky. In Minnesota, it's possible to get
snow in June, however unlikely. I don't know the statistics, but I'm
sure they're available somewhere.

Anyway, it's feasible that Nat's birthday could have been in April.
Especially if the show's writers were playing loosely with the info,
as writers sometimes do. Has the actress who played Natalie Lambert
ever said when Nat's birthday was supposed to be for sure?

Oops, sorry if you get this twice, Nancy. I hit reply and meant for
that to get back to the list.

Actually, this is a good example of a continuity glitch because they didn't
care. Yes, that's right. They didn't care. I once got a chance to ask John
Kapelos at a con about Myra's Amazing Resurrecting Mother. He said he told
them they'd already established that Myra's mother was dead -- Schanke had a
long speech about it -- and they said to go on with the line about Myra's
being in Tampa with her mother anyway. Nobody, they said, would remember.

As for Nat's birthday, it first appears in Only the Lonely. Not only is the
time clearly summer in the park scene, but a calendar which clearly says
either JAN or JUN is visible in the background. Since the weather couldn't
possibly Toronto in January, it follows that Nat's birthday is in June. The
April 14th thing is simply wrong.

I've heard about that in one of the interviews, of course I can't remember
which one... (GWD? Kapelos?)

It really was just a glitch in the script, but the problem was the director,
not the producers. He was one of those guest directors, he had been told to
stick exactly to the script, and that's what he did, no matter what. That line
about no one remembering is from him. The actors didn't have a chance to talk
him out of it, and couldn't phone TPTB at this time of night, or it would
probably have been corrected!

Subject: Not just a glitch

There are two reasons why I still think the Myra's mother thing was an
example of not caring.

1. I didn't just read this in an interview. I actually asked JK. He seemed
to think it was example of their not caring, or at least of underestimating
the fans.. It wasn't that they couldn't call, but that they wouldn't. With
a show that normally shot at night, all night, there had to be someone
available to be called if necessary. It's possible that Ger thinks it was an
example of a guest director being careless, but John didn't seem to think
so. Ger wasn't in the scene, after all, whereas John was the one who argued
with the director. Of course, the line never should have made it to the
shooting script to begin with, but at least that's most likely just a
mistake by whoever did the script edit.

2. The line "she's in Tampa with her her mother" could easily have been
fixed in post by cutting "with her mother." CBS's contains numerous examples
of cuts where we only got part of a line. To cite one that isn't often
mentioned, remember the scene in Cherry Blossoms where Nat appears to snap
Nick's head off for asking for more details about the blood in the murder
car? I'd always thought of that as "Nat's attack of PMS" until I saw the
full scene in the Canadian version. The lines we didn't get come from the
part where she apologizes. She's just been told budget cuts will require
staff layoffs and she's worried about her people, who have families and
whose skills are not exactly in demand.

ROFL. (I'm thinking *gullible idiot*, may be an understatement,
masochistic comes to mind as both jobs are rather ... self-destructive.)

I'm assuming this would be as indicated by the date & time the post is
labeled by the author and also taking into account any "before another post"

Another gravely misleading cut is in False Witness, in the scene in the
parking garage. Nick tells Nat he's 800 years old, he knows right from
wrong, and she stops, with an odd expression on her face. Cut there, it
looks as if she's doubting his statement. But actually, she has caught a
whiff of Myra's super strong sunblock, provided by Schanke in another scene
cut from the ep. The sunblock is scented with coconut, and Nat's next line
is: "Do you smell pina coladas?"

I don't understand why they couldn't have changed one simple word. Instead of
having Schanke say mother, why not aunt, sister, cousin, friend, etc. There
were so many ways to go with that one.
