Subject: Vachon's Identity

For some reason, I just started to wonder why Vachon was listed on the
passenger list in BB as "J D Valdez". Was that the name he was using in his
current incarnation? Or was he moving on, leaving the crew under a new name
so they couldn't trace him easily? Why did he give his real name to Tracy?
Or is it his real name? Why was he on the plane in the first place?
Couldn't he have just flown by himself?

Guess that's enough of the name game for now :-)

Tracy asked him that question--Vachon likes the engines' sounds and the
feel of takeoff.

All right folks, I'm out of my natural habitat where I used to live in for
the past 4 months (that's right I'm back in Vancouver) and therefore I
don't have all my addresses. This should go to Eve but because of the
above mentioned reason I'm posting it on the list.

Eve, what a piece of art!!!!!! And I mean it times the number of
exclamation points I’ve put in front of it. Your video is extravagant,
especially that LK portion of it. You've done it better than the producers
of the show themselves. Makes me wonder how they would feel if they saw
this. I myself break into tears (for no explicable reason other than
perhaps loving those people so much) every time I see it. <:)

I have a few technical questions too: What software did you use for
editing? How did you get to overlap audio at some points (both the music
and the dialogues could be heard)? Did you capture the clips yourself or
did you get help from someone(I think I heard that Kristin was involved in
this too)?

All in all, GREEEEEEAT job!
Sunny

I can not get the music video to work!
First, it opened as a bunch of symbols and numbers, so I saved it to my
computer as a .wmv file... but when I tried to play it, it said the file
was incomplete or corrupted~ I tried downloading it and doing it over,
six times! (And yes, I did make sure I have the latest version of Windows
Media Player.)
Now, I click on the link and a Lycos page opens and says the page I'm
searching for no longer exists!!
Can someone just *email* me the video?? Please??

I assumed he was using a different name to lose The Inka. Also, the info Tracy
dug up on 'J.D. Valdez' was that he worked on an oil rig. The 'Valdez' seemed
a purposefully ironic choice.

Having the current version of Windows Media Player didn't help me
either. I finally discovered that I had to download it while in Internet
Explorer. I normally use Netscape, but the video wouldn't work for me
using that browser to download.

I know that Peter Martin, the father of the baby who survived the plane

Canadian version of Black Buddha?

According to the Inca in Black Buddha 2, he met his death in 1531 at the
hands of a Spaniard named Javier Vachon. Whether that's the name Vachon
had in 1531 or if that's the name the Inca knew he was last using, is
open to speculation.

Subject: Vachon's name

"Vachon" is a French name. Of course it's possible
that an ancestor came from a border region or moved to
Spain.

However, "Javier" is impossible as Vachon's original
first name. It's a Portuguese form, taken back into
Spanish, of the _surname_ of St. Francis Xavier. St.
Francis Xavier died in 1552 and was not canonized
until 1622. That means that his name was not available
as a saint's name for baptism of Catholic children
until 1622. Note that "Xavier" is a Basque surname
from a place name. Surnames as given names are unique
to the English-speaking countries. The only time you'd
find a surname used as a baptismal name in a
non-English-speaking country would be cases like
"Xavier," where the surname is part of a saint's name.

Probably he just likes the name Javier. Yes, yes, I
know this is a heavy layer of cheese and the reality
is that the producers didn't know or care, but hey,
serving cheese is fun. :)

Now, if we could explain why Tracy insisted on using
the Spanish h-sound for the J, but pronouncing the
second syllable as if "Javier" was a French name ...

Last Sunday's _Nero Wolfe_ on A&E included Kari Machett (Nick's wife) and
Robert Bockstael (the guy Nick hung out the window) in the cast. Since this
was a two-part episode, with the second half to be shown this coming Sunday,
there is a good chance that they will be on then, too. (Also, it is possible
that the Nero Wolfe program is re-broadcast during the week--I don't know.)
Be forwarned:
in this program, you are looking for a blond Bockstael and a brunette Machett.

WHEW!!!!!!

I just finished uploading the music video to KC......and if anyone is
thinking about sending it through e-mail, let me just tell you what I had to
go through <g> (of course, it could just be an AOL thing <argh!>).

It took a total of 5 tries to send it as a .zip file; I got booted off the
net several times. The file transfer itself took about an hour and 15
minutes (all tolled it took about 2 hours to send what with getting booted
off and all!!).

I finally disabled my screensaver and anti-virus program, and then I was able
to send the file. It could be just a coincidence that it went through then,
who knows!!

Thing is, I just finished sending it to KC, so I've no idea whether it is
even going to work for her or not. Hope so!!

Off to work now, hope you all have a **great** day!!

Oops. No, there were only Canadian versions of 1st season. This was actually
my mistake, misattributing the background in my memory.

More cheese on the name - We have The Inka referring to him as 'Javier Vachon'
for the 1531 flashback, but it's not like these two characters spent time
introducing themselves and sharing background. It was run, snarl, and more
running.
Vachon spent 450+ years trying to avoid The Inka. I mean, unless he's Atahualpa
or Huscar Inka in disguise, and I don't see how that would work historically, a
certain someone's appropriate name isn't 'The Inka,' either. Vachon either
doesn't know what else to call him or doesn't care. Maybe The Inka was the same
way, calling him 'The Spaniard' for a few centuries before picking up the name
the V-man was using, the better to chase him down. This falls in with McLisa's
idea that Vachon assumed a name that he preferred to a birth name. He wouldn't
have been the first. *I* like the sound of 'Javier Vachon' better than 'J.D.
Valdez.'

Was that Tracy? I thought Urs used that particular pronunciation.

Tracy, as I recall, almost invariably called him "Vachon". The one time I
can remember her using Javier (Trophy Girl) she used a hard "r". Ha-vee-are.

Pull out the cheese as it could very well be that both Tracy and Urs were
pronouncing his names using variations Screed might use. He'd known Vachon the
longest and probably used several variations depending on his mood just as he
sometimes used "V-man" or "Vachonetti."
