Nick, in angsty mood - the whole of Hamlet's soliquoy, "To be or not to
be...."

And for Sidney Lambert, who knows who the *real* bard is/was, it would have
to be:

Hamlet's Cat's Soliloquy

To go outside, and there perchance to stay
Or to remain within, that is the question:
Whether 'tis better for a cat to suffer
The cuffs and buffets of inclement weather
That Nature rains on those who roam abroad,
Or take a nap upon a scrap of carpet,
And so by dozing melt the solid hours
That clog the clock's bright gears with sullen time
And stall the dinner bell. To sit, to stare
Outdoors, and by a stare to seem to state
A wish to venture forth without delay,
Then when the portal's opened up, to stand
As if transfixed by doubt. To prowl; to sleep;
To choose not knowing when we may once more
Our readmittance gain: aye, there's the hairball;
For if a paw were shaped to turn a knob,
Or work a lock or slip a window-catch,
And going out and coming in were made
As simple as the breaking of a bowl,
What cat would bear the household's petty plagues,
The cook's well-practiced kicks, the butler's broom,
The infant's careless pokes, the tickled ears,
The trampled tail, and all the daily shocks
That fur is heir to, when, of his own free will,
He might his exodus or entrance make
With a mere mitten? Who would spaniels fear,
Or strays trespassing from a neighbor's yard,
But that the dread of our unheeded cries
And scratches at a barricaded door
No claw can open up, dispels our nerve
And makes us rather bear our humans' faults
Than run away to unguessed miseries?
Thus caution doth make house cats of us all;
And thus the bristling hair of resolution
Is softened up with the pale brush of thought,
And since our choices hinge on weighty things,
We pause upon the threshold of decision.

evil influence of my two cats, okay?...)

Hi gang --

Well, the April Guide never arrived, and here it is the 26th of April, and
the May guide hasn't arrived yet either.

I'm in the middle of getting things ready for the movers to arrive here on
Monday morning, April 30th. Yes, hard to believe, but our 2 1/2 years here
in China is over, and we're coming back to the states. Don't have a job
there yet, but something will come up. I hear that California has come to
the conculsion that maybe they need more power plants.......

Anyway, we're going to spend a couple days in Hong Kong, and then fly home
on Thursday, May 3. So, maybe sometime that next week, I'll be able to get
a Satellite Guide and get a list out for May. I'll be sure to pack my
Movie Check List in my carry-on. :)

Guess that's all for now, the next post from me will be from California
next month.

This is really good! Did you write this? You should seriously think about
publishing it.

Subject: needing advice on an upcoming work

Hi everyone!
As some of you may know I have been working on my first Forever Knight
novel for a while now (4 months to be exact). I finished the first draft
on April 20 and started the first revision right after that. I was kind of
hoping to finish it before I left Montreal but as I see now, it is rather
taking more time than I thought. At this pace I’m hoping for the first
revision to be finished in about 15-20 days and that is when I’ll begin
the second review and start looking for beta readers.

The reason I’m saying all this? Well first of all to at least let you know
it is coming up and mostly to encourage myself. I guess most of you know
how difficult it is to work on something this ambitious for the duration
of four months with no support what so ever. So far nobody has read any
part of my story other than myself (I rather hand a perfect copy than
something I don’t approve myself), people knew I was writing it, and that
it is something over 130 pages, but that’s about it.

The other reason I’m posting this is that even though I’m working on the
revision day in and day out, since I’ll be moving to Vancouver soon there
will be a gap in my work. So it might be another month before I finally
get to post the final thing (considering the second revision and the beta
reading). My concern is that when I joined the list there was some talk
about an upcoming war and that it was postponed. I’m worried that this war
might start right when I’m about to post the story. If that’s the case
please let me know so that I either speed things up (forget about the
second review, beta reading, etc. which I personally don’t prefer but
will do if there is no choice) or close it and leave it for after the war
(and go to my bedroom and cry :). Anyway if anyone has more information
and any suggestions for me please let me know. I’ll appreciate the advice.

Thanks—going back to my story now
Love you all
Sunny

Goodness! How long have you had *that* sitting around? Fun though. <G>

This was posted today on The Globe and Mail's Art and Literature review
section. It's not directly FK related but since most of us are fanfiction
writers and the title kind of jumped out at me I thought I post it here:

The link to the article is:

It even mentions fanfiction.net and some interesting facts about copyright
laws.

(Warning: cheesy Caddy scene upcoming) I think they'll all just lie about
their ages - that has worked for the vamps. And it is an easy habit to
catch, too. I just read my email that I sent. I wrote that I'm 32 1/2 --
actually *42 1/2* ! What was I thinking? Was I in channeling Nick or
something?

TGIF waiter: May I see some ID, sir?
Nick: You're kidding, right? Well here, I'm over eight hund, I mean,
four--, I mean I'm thirt -- or fourty. Aw heck, what does my
license say?
TGIF waiter (giving Nick the fisheye): Says here that this license *expires*
in 1962.
Nick (fumbling thru wallet): No! I gave you the wrong one!
(assorted cards fall on table and floor)
Lacroix (oh yes, he's at TGIF, too, and rolling his baby blues skyward):
    This will be trouble.
