I'm answering onlist because I think it may be of general interest.

It's more than offense that we are worried about. The copyright owners have
to worry about losing their ownership if they knowingly allow use of their
work by the non-licensed. Print copyright owners have sued fanfic
publishers, which is what Fkfic-l amounts to. In the past, film copyright
owners have been more likely to do so. So, we have the limitation to tv. It
won't protect us if Sony/Tri-Star decides to crack down and issue a cease
and desist order. It may, however, make it less likely.

I just hope I never have to deal with whether or not to keep crossovers of
Fkfic-l. That's not a threat or something I would want to do. It's just a
thought for if there ever comes a time when all tv show copyright holders
are as aggressive as the others.

I don't know that it's just fanfic sites. They may (MAY) have had a list of
various sites and just decided to "enforce" the TOS.

I'm saying this because I had a site (non-fanfic, it was actually on scale
modelling) that was killed off for "violating TOS" this weekend as well.

I'm waiting for an explanation from them as to what the "violation" was - I
believe if you write to abuse@t....... they're SUPPOSED to let you know
what happened to bring about the deletion of the site. I'm not holding my
breath, and fortunately have some leads on other hosts.

Good luck to the authors and webmasters affected.

Oh, as far as Google, make sure they actually have the *site* cached. For
mine, they only had the front page itself cached. Fortunately, I create my
site offline, and upload it via FTP.

Subject: Protesting Tripod site shutdowns

In light of Tripod/Lycos' recent harrassment of Forever Knight fans
(and other customers who had web sites that didn't even violate copyrights), I
am moving my Galaxy of Images site even though it doesn't violate any copyrights,
and will make sure to let TPTB know why. I suggest this as a form of protest,
perhaps then Tripod/Lycos will sit up and take notice.

Um..

My brain is working ye olde butter churn thinking in lines of hybernation

Just how long did Nick (whose body was already pretty starved, btw) manage
to stay on the wagon before that lady counselor booted him off with a
well-placed kick of the stilletos?

Please hurry with possible answers... my arms are getting tired and I'm

Outlook insists that I did send out part16 of my story---but still refuses

earlier---but my backup mailer says nay.

The upshot of all this is that if you are missing story parts e-mail me or
wait until I get the whole thing sent to Steph for the ftp site.
I am also looking for the CEO of mailservers so I can stake the Ancient so

D'oh! http://stormborn.tripod.com/ Once the image map loads (apologies to
those with slower connections; this is one of the things that will be
changed once I put the site back up), click on the FK section.

As of 12:47 AM Mountain Standard Time, my site was still there. Maybe they
just haven't gotten around to it yet...

: If they had really shown a head wound, there would
: not have much left. A little too bloody for t.v.

Not, generally, too bloody for Canadian prime time however--Da Vinci's
Inquest, Cold Squad, and Blue Murder *all* tend to include messy crime
scenes and/or autopsies (as well as frequent FK veterans).

It would be consistent to show a small head wound and LOTS of blood on the
wall rather than just a modest smear. I'm no forensics expert but I do
think that if a bullet had passed through Nick first it would likely *not*
be fatal, or if it was there might be a messy entry wound as well.

Laplor@t......., making an extra backup of Laplor.tripod.com/ even though
it was created offline, just to be completely sure.

I have to say that I've always been confused as to just *where* those
bullets entered Tracy -- was the head wound some kind of ricochet that got
her in the *back* of the head? When I first saw the ep, I thought she got
it in the abdomen, but the smear of blood on the wall as she slid down did
seem to be coming from her head. It wasn't until I saw her head bandaged
that I realized there had been a head wound -- and I thought "huh?"

I've watched that scene a number of times.
        She got hit twice.
The first bullet is one that passed through Nick's body (I think
you can see the exit wound on his jacket as he jerks from being
shot) and then hit Tracy in the stomach (she is behind him and a
little to one side, about to fire past his shoulder so when the bullet
cut through Nick,it hit her next).
That stunned look on Tracy's face is as much a reaction to
being hit as it is to seeing Nick as a vampire.
When Nick attacks him, the bad guy he fires three more times
and we hear the bullets bouncing in the locker room. One of these
richocetts is what hit Tracy in the head. I think it hit her in the
back of her head or maybe high in the neck angling upwards (helps
to explain the blood on her lips so fast if she bleeding into her
mouth). Tracy wore fairly long hair and I think the entry wound was
concealed there.
This will get gruesome for some, but a hit like this wouldn't be
very noticeable on the outside except for all the blood. Entrance
wounds tend to be small holes (at the surface anyway). Since the
bullet had bounced several times before it hit Tracy, it would
probably not have the power to exit her skull (which is how you get
the really graphic injuries that someone like JFK suffered).
Headwounds tend to bleed a lot so you get the rather shocking
blood-smeer you see as Tracy slids down the wall.

No, no, it's... uhhh.... Nick using the legendary Vampiric "turn to mist"
power...

Of course, I think we would have seen that earlier:

Nat: "Here, Nick, a new shake!"
Nick "Uhh... OK, Nat." (Takes glass, swallows as he does the mist thing...
*SPLAT!*) "Oops, sorry, darn vampiric power!"

Subject: Nick and food--again

When we were discussing this before I said that Nick should have a hot dog.
In an offlist conversation with McLisa, she pointed out that the Romans had
sausage, mustard, onions and pickled cabbage. I already knew that they had
fast-food shops, so it occurs to me that LaCroix and Nick, whilst mortal,
probably had had something resembling a hot dog!

Now I wonder if they'd had any other foods that we consider 'modern'--maybe
Lucius indulged in a 'white' (i.e., tomato-less) pizza?

According to what I've heard (this time in Remington Steele fandom), the
deletion of sites seems to be random. Not just fan-based sites, since
others are gone and some fan sites are still there. Rumor has it that
Lycos (who owns Tripod and the other sites mentioned previously) is about
to go belly-up, which is why they don't seem to be terribly careful about
maintaining their sites. Keeping a backup of your site on your hard drive
(or CD-RW or zip disks or whatever) would seem to be a good idea in any
event. I can't personally vouch for the truth of the Lycos rumor, but I
trust the person I heard it from, for whatever that's worth.
