Didn't much of Nick's guilt start with Alyssa and kind of balloon
from there? Yes, there was a time in his life when he tried to push
it all away and do what Daddy dearest wanted, but that didn't last
forever.

Being pierced myself, I always wondered about that... I mean, what if the
flesh fused to the metal, since it wouldn't be so intent on rejecting it?
Or would the immune system be even stronger against it and cause migrations
and rejections And with pre-vamp type stuff healing (ala Blind Faith), if
you had piercings prior to being brought across, would they try to heal? I
don't think there were any pierced vampires on FK were there?
Yes, I think about such things. ;) And wb, Molly. :)

Thankee, thankee. My supposition is that the flesh would either fuse to the
metal or close so tightly around it that it would have to be cut out. And yes,
I ponder this stuff too. ;)

I seem to remember a first season episode where Nick goes to
the Raven to see Janette and finds her at the bar getting her
shoulder tattooed. There is some conversation about how Janette
is enduring the pain of the tattooing because she wants it for the
night, even though it would be gone in "a day or two".
Since tattooing involves placing pigments under the skin, I
would assume that this means that Janette's body would "reject"
the pigment and force it to the surface before healing.
So, on this basis, a piercing would be forced out before the
wound caused by its placement healed.
That of course, rises the interesting question of why Nick
keeps having to have Natalie dig around in his anatomy with
forceps to pull out the bullets he can't seem to dodge (you'd think
the guy would wear bodyarmor just to avoid awkward questions
from people who are certain that the bullet hit him).

Because having those things jiggling around inside is probably dang
uncomfortable emotionally if not physically. Not to mention inconvenient
should he have to pass under a security device which insists that he is
carrying a few pounds of metal. (hehehe...oh, what am image comes to mind!
<slaps self> Thanks, Light...I needed that.)
As for bodyarmor....wouldn't that chafe? You know they like soft silks and
the like.

Nothing says you have to wear bodyarmor against your skin.
I know that special mesh t-shirts are sold that allow your skin to
"breath" and not be in contact with the armor itself. Nick has loot
and some of the best-known bodyarmor places actual make armor
custom-fitted to your body. Nick could spring for some that was
silk-lined.
In truth, my question is rhetorical. They had Natalie digging
around with forceps because it worked dramatically. FK was
looser with its "bible" than other shows. They never let
"established facts" stand in the way of telling a good story that
night. It makes the show a nit-picker's delight, but made things
fun to watch.
I think if the show was ever brought back, it would have better
consistency simply because more people expect consistency
today than was the case when FK was originally made (story arcs
and reference to preceeding episodes was something that really
only soap-opera style shows did at that time).
The X-Files and Babylon 5 broke a lot of new ground right at
that time.

I hope this is not considered 'Adult' since I didn't
put it in the subject. It's just a harmless question,
no need to be explicit about anything.
After reading a gazillion FK fics, does anyone else
feel human sex is unfulfilling and rather boring
compared to what these bloodsucking creatures of the
night have? It annoys me to know that I would never
ever 'read' anything from my partner during intimacy.
No emotions, no feelings, no memories, nada.
Well perhaps this had to be posted under YNYRTMFK...

Well, I read emotions and feelings from my partner. As far as the intense
intimacy of FK-vampire sex, would you really want that? Intimacy is one thing,
being exposed to someone else's psychodramas is something else, methinks.

Except that inks and metal are quite different in density and that the wound
left by tattoo is encouraged to close, while the wound causing by piercing is
forced to stay open, in a way, by the metal. Basically a piercing 'hole' is a
ring of scar tissue surrounding empty space; you can feel this on a pierced
earlobe.
Now, Kyer said that body armor would chafe a vampire's sensitive skin. Er,
Squirette, take think about Nick's clothes in the medieval flashbacks. Heavy
linen, rough wools--oouch!

Forkni-l is an all-ages list, so yes, this question is
inappropriate. Answers need to be taken to private
mail. While the post itself wasn't adult, there is too
much potential for trouble. One poster's inexplicit
can easily be another's too far.
There is no adult topic on Forkni-l. That's Fkfic-l
And before someone asks, no, there isn't going to be.
Of course, if someone wants to start an adult FK
discussion list elsewhere, that's up to her/him.

Medieval armor wasn't worn next to the skin. The
wearer's shirt (a longer and looser garment than the
modern kind) went under it. Someone with more recent
SCA experience and/or a better memory than mine can
probably go into more detail.
OTOH, there are period accounts of men who tried to
wear armor when not actually fighting in the hot
middle-eastern sun during the Crusades and getting
burned.
Considering how blond he was, Nick in his crusader
days must often have bourn a pronounced resemblance to
a boilded lobster. :)

Nor is modern body armor, there is at least a layer of under-
clothing between the body and the kevlar, so Nick, Crown
Prince of Layers, should have had no trouble with wearing
it. <g>
