Subject: length of war? private list?

How long is a "war" likely to last? If it's more than, say, 2 weeks, is
there any chance that it could be put on a list OTHER than fkfic-l? I have
really been enjoying that list since I signed up for it around 9 months ago,
and as I get it in "digest" form I wouldn't be able to set it as "no war".
I can stop getting it in digest form for the duration of the war, but if
enough other people feel this way too, and if there's some question about
overloading the psu.edu server, could the war be conducted on the Yahoo
fkfic list instead?

I dont know. I hate to say it, but myself and most people I know NEVER read
internet banners, and are setting up or have devices that strip (or try to)
them from our messages... I dont know if that would be an effective use of
money.

Are there other places, less pricey, we can spread the good word? Would a
banner ad such as above, in bold print, be cheaper than a full page age?
Could it run more places or more often and we'd get more bang for our buck

Back when this topic first started and I said that I thought Nick was a
'heartbreaker', I was not insinuating that he was promiscuous, or luving 'em
and leav'n 'em! I merely meant that he was a 'heartbreaker' as in the local
gals were eyeing his bodkin:

Hi All,
several years ago I went to Mad Media Con 1 where Nigel Bennett was
the guest of honor. We threw a great FK room party. Because it was a "dry"
convention we did not have alcohol but still had some great drinks. We had
"blood" which was a Tomato juice/Virgin/Bloody mary conconction with the
color punched up with food coloring and placed in a punch bowl. We also
had "Blood Lite" which was Tropicana Twister Lite in a cranberry variety
with the color also punched up with food coloring. We bought the food
coloring in the restaurant supply department of the local wholesale club.
It was a really BIG bottle. The one caveat I would give you is be sure to
have a very responsible adult serving up the drinks and don't fill the cups
too full. With all that food coloring you could have a disaster in the making
if you aren't careful.

Yes, indeedy, there are. And for the most part, believe it or not, they are
up to date. :-) It is very likely that we will be further updating them
soon though.

Anyway, the flyers are available on the KtK website. Our shorter url isn't
functioning at the moment, as our redirect service seems to have gone
belly-up, so the site can be accessed at http://members.aol.com/ktkpage

For the record, internet advertising revenues are very very low right now
(hence a lot of free service sites are going down down down). It's been
proven, essentially, that banner ads are extremely ineffective. They're
often either ignored or people have programs which will prevent them from
being seen. Although banners to share on our own sites (KtK pages linked by
gif graphics or whatever) wouldn't hurt, and is free, I'm not sure paying
for space on most random webpages would be worth it.

Sorry, I changed topics but not semantics. I was referring her to a *print

Not as pretty. But the people we are trying to get to would know what the

Offline for nearly a year and oh! how I missed you all! But I'm back up and
running (with my nifty DSL connection--I highly recommend it for anyone who
has access to it. It's well worth the extra money). Somehow, I feel like
LaCroix in the last ep of season one and the first ep of season two <insert
evil chortle>...

And I'm back just in time for a War! <bouncing with evil glee>

Unfortunately, while I was offline I had to wipe my hard drive and lost
everyone's addy. Also unfortunately, my ISP assigned me this crummy email
addy and is taking forever to change it. And I'm going to be reconstructing
my website (if you have anything archived on ICS, please save it to your
hard drive, because the Inn's going bye-bye).

I've also developed a major crush on Kai from LEXX. LaCroix, Nick,
Kai--what is it with me and all these dead guys? I'm starting to
worry...NOT! <g>

Hope all is well with everybody.

Yes, NOW! In fact you can leave your subscription set to +war all
of the time. During non-war periods nothing is being sent with
that in the subject header so it doesn't matter.

>and is this how one receives the
>war-related posts before and during war?

Some post come this way before the war starts as listmembers are gearing
up for it. Factions advertise if they're looking for more players,
they often announce their war leaders here, and the war mistress makes
announcements both here and on fkfic, etc.

During the war itself, VERY FEW war related posts are made to forkni.

>like I have at present anyway?

Argh, it's too late here (and I'm too sleepy)to understand that right now.)

The forkni mail volume won't increase all that much even with +war turned
on.

The war itself is NOT played on forkni. It has been played on fkfic
in all the previous wars I've been involved with (7, 8, 9, 10).

This time mclisa is thinking about having it occur somewhere else
entirely (yahoo/egroups). If it's held on the regular fkfic then
you'll need to set fkfic to +war like on forkni. If it's
conducted on yahoo instead, then you'll need to subscribe there.
Since we don't know yet, you needn't do anything about THAT yet.

Whereever it is conducted, there will be a LOT of email once
the war starts -- have a big mailbox for it or check your mail
often.

Also, you're going to play with a faction, your faction will
probably have a "war list" that's just for your and your
faction members who are playing. You may discuss attacks/strategy
and plan war posts on it. How much mail is generated by that
faction war list depends. It may or may not be a lot of mail.
Ask your faction leader for an estimate.

You may work with others planning posts and send/receive private
(not on war list) messages. That may or may not be a lot of
messages.

By my estimate for every post made to fkfic in the
past wars there were 10 messages "behind the scenes" just to
prepare that one war post. Those 10 messages are some combination
of war list messages and primate email messages for those involved
in creating that war post.

So the combination of fkfic (or yahoo), faction war list, and private
messages will combine to create a LOT of email but you can divide
them into various hotmail accounts if you want.

Oh I forgot to say, the amount of normal (non-war) fkfic posts
drops dramatically because many of the writers are busy playing
in the war instead of writing non-war fic. Even those that aren't
playing, know that non-war stuff posted to fkfic then will likely
NOT be read because so many listmembers are busy playing/reading
the war.

>#3 is it proper to tell the other non-Vaq lists NOW
>that I will be in the Vaquero/as Faction for theupcoming war?

No -- Unless you've led one of the other faction's leaders to believe
that you would be playing with them and you've now changed your mind.
Normally players don't announce to the others that they're not playing
with them. You just send in your permission slip thru your leader
at the appropriate time. You can't do that yet because the warmistress
has not given specific instructions about it yet.

From what I understand of Celtic-pagan culture, *Gwyneth* could have been
free to choose whomever she wanted as a sexual partner, and that partner
would not necessarily become her life-mate. OTOH, *Nick's* fine line was at
least as much political as sexual. He was, for all intents and purposes,
"sleeping with the enemy" -- meaning the goals and missions his lord gave
him, and whatever intelligence he was privy to, not to mention the
after-death disposition of his soul, could (in LaBarre's and the Church's
eyes) be compromised.

Hi Molly!
Great to hear from you, I'm a big fan of your fiction,
I think they’re among the best.

You said the inn is going bye bye. Why? Are you
planning to deprive us from your stories? (not that I
haven’t already read all of them like 700 times :) Are
you going to post them on a new site? Are you going to
write any new ones? (Please please, more goodies like
“Breaking Glass” and the Byzantium series.)

You know I’m not sure I have enough hard drive to save
the entire inn on my laptop, but I’ll try. It’s so
sad, the inn had turned into a sort of cozy lounge for
me since I’ve discovered it, even after I finished
reading all of them. It will be missed.
