UMMMMM, I personally just dont buy that. She would know, I would think, that
vampires would lie to conceal themselves...

There was just too much other evidence since she had learned about vamp
physiology dealing with Vachon. Heck, even Schanke started to figure it
out, and he diidnt KNOW a vampire.

Even if Vachon told her that he had whammied Nick... I would still be very
doubtful

One of the reasons Tracy might not have figured Nick out was at the end
of BB. After the Inca flies off with the bomb, Nick was already there,
and Vachon 'whammies' Nick so he wouldn't remember. Later, (if I
remember correctly) Tracy tells Vachon that Nick didn't remember a
thing. From this, she believed Nick to be mortal.

Subject: Question about Enforcers

Hi Everyone:

Greetings....Okay, as I get ready to start on my next tidbit, I had a
question.... How do the Enforcers decide who to target for breaking the
Code? Do they meet with the elders? Do they meet in groups by themselves?
Or do they just go after a rule-breaker?

Thanks in advance for the info. Well, back to writing.

Sincerely,

David

I picture them over a game of Old Maid (the *card* game--NOT an actual old
biddy, okay?) ruminating such things as:

"I say we go after Joe."
"Nah...he's my partner's stoolie."
"Well, what about Marie?"
"Hey! She still owes me money from the Boer War."
"Geez, must we discuss this now---I gotta good hand here."
[Kyer: No one ever said Enforcers were smart. Just look at 'em.]
"How about that Lacroix family?"
"Not until my dentures come back from the doc's."
"Still waiting, huh?"
"We gotta get a better dental plan."

Of course, with fangs the size of sabertooth's, the conversation probably
sounded more like:

"Errr arrrr gga Gaa."
"Ehh...rr aar ggrrar phth."
"Arr? er arrrar Gar?"
"Rrowr! Rr arrg erg e ooola grra e Arrr Rar."

And so on.

I thought this was really cool.
I went on webshots.com, where you can download other people's photos, etc
for use as a screen saver or wallpaper for your computer. I did a search
for "Forever Knight." It came up with a bunch of acutal FK stuff as well as
a picture of a horse and rider in competition. At first I thought
WHAT?!?!?! Then I clicked on it and the discription came up as
      (ARS) Forever Knight
9 year old Black Gaited Saddlebred stallion

I looked at other photos this person had put up and there were horses named
Clockwork Orange, Piers Anthony, Night Dancer, and I Spy. So it appears
that this person named their horse after the television show.
That is really neat.
I think there is a link where you could email that person. I'd have to
check.

Hey Dave! There is only a very little info about the enforcers. I'm not
even sure, but I think they may have only been in 2 eps. I may be wrong,
but I think the only truly canonical thing we know about them is that they
do whatever needs to be done to insure that the mortal world does not learn
of vampires. The show never gave a clear view of the vampire "community."
There is no definite indication of any kind of counsel or "ruling body."
Some fic writers see the society as pretty structured, I see it as pretty
anarchic with little or no rules (except for doing nothing to endanger
vampire existence as a whole).

Well, from the one episode dealing with the enforcers I would have to say that
the "Enforcers" have spies within the vampire community, who snitch at the
sign of a possible threat. The Enforcers themselves then might watch the accused
to determine whether or not they deserve the stake, and the mortal deserves a
bite.

Thank you. Now I have this horrible mental vision of Klingon vampires
having a conversation with bad subtitles--while playing Old Maid! If I have
nightmares tonight, it's your fault!

Anybody for a bad FK/ST crossover? ;-)

Bitter? Strong? Grind? Sounds more like a cup of coffee than a character!!

Very good point! Tracy was certainly *happy* in Black Buddha before she knew
Gary was actually Vudu, but that doesn't necessarily deserve the season-long
moniker "Perky" -- she even asked Bruce to stop calling her "Button."

In "Let No Man Tear Asunder" she seemed to know quite a bit about tatoos from
some friend, who I don't think was Vachon!!

She drank tea with lemon once. I don't know about eating. Did anyone else eat
much in that show though?? Guess you don't get very hungry on the night shift.

>I don't know, in my opinion Tracy lacked Schanky's ...intelligence in a way?

I beg to differ on this point. Do, please, go back and watch "Be My Valentine"
-- there in, please note Schanke, in pursuit of the killer, trips not once but
TWICE over a library cart full of books.

Tracy was young, yes. Tracy did not have as many years on the force, yes. But
never did she *fall down* on the job leaving Nick to single-handedly catch the
perp.

>You got to admit, Schanky had his doubts about Nick, curiosity at least...he
>saw that there was something "weird" about him. I don't remember ever seeing

Let's not look at this from our point of view, with our knowledge of Nick, but
let's looks at it from Tracy's point of view. She knows two vampires -- Vachon
and Screed. Both "squat" in places which don't charge rent and could use a good
bit of cleaning. Both have no visible means of support. Both seem to have a
limited wardrobe.

Add this to the fact that when Tracy meets Nick she has no reason to even
believe in vampires, coupled with the fact that, before she is given any reason
at all to suspect Nick of being a bottle-sucking blood-consumer, Vachon whammies
him right in front of Tracy -- telling him "what he will remember and what he
will forget."

Then, again, in all of Tracy's other encounters with vampires, they are evil bad
guys who go around sucking blood and killing people -- she even sees Vachon do
this to Vudu, and is almost attacked by Screed in Fever.

Now, what did Nick do to shatter anything Tracy truly knows about vampires? He
has a job. He lives in a beautifully decorated, anal-retentively dustless loft.
He has an extensive wardrobe which doesn't apparently include anything obtained
from The Salvation Army. He doesn't bare his fangs or kill anyone with them
that Tracy knows of. And Tracy has never seen Nick at The Raven, a place she
suspects of being a vampire hang-out. Plus, and I could be VERY wrong here, but
isn't there a framed picture of Nick and Schanke?!? Taken during the DAY --
when Nick was on that stuff Nat cooked up in The Fix?

Granted, Tracy has never seen Nick eat anything, but isn't the opposite also
true? WE haven't seen her eat, so it's possible Nick hasn't seen her eat.

Tracy is not stupid because she doesn't know what we know. Tracy is not stupid
for not suspecting Nick -- she has been given every reason to believe that he is
mortal. For goodness sakes, she might as well suspect Natalie of being a
vampire, which is equally as possible from Tracy's point of view -- maybe even
more so, since Nat has obviously seen fang-marks on dead bodies and has yet to
report them to anyone.

I do truly wonder how Tracy and Schanke would have been perceived had their
places been reversed -- if Tracy had been Nick's partner seasons one and two,
and Schanke had been brought in season three. I personally think Schanke got
away with a lot of comic relief because he was older and male which Tracy would
have been ragged on for because she's younger and female.

Just an old third-season vet's opinion.

Bonnie wrote such an excellent post about Tracy, that if I was really smart,
I'd keep my mouth shut and hope someone confuses us again! :D

But I'm not really smart, and I've been pondering this character a lot
recently for a fanfic-in-progress, so I'll add to the thread.

Bonnie wrote:
<snip>Tracy was certainly *happy* in Black Buddha before she knew Gary was

Not that I think that anything is wrong with perkiness (I've been nicknamed
'The Perky Redhead' since I was in junior high, so, yeah, I'm biased),
'Perky' is the wrong word. Tracy was 'determined,' and this manifested
itself in a variety of ways. 'Trophy Girl' was an excellent example -
she kills her first perp on the job, and it hits her hard. She cries and
gets it out of her system. Does she sit back and angst when Captain
Reese forces her to take days off? No. She knows she's capable of more than
that.
Tracy is determined to do her job, so she goes on her own, undercover, to track
down the serial killer. Later in the episode, when she's fighting for her life,
there is nothing perky or upbeat about Tracy as she crawls for the gun.
Some people might argue that she's just acting on survival instincts - but you
know what? - there are people in the same situation who would cave, who would
just whimper, beg for their lives and hope that somehow they would be saved.
Not Tracy. That's determination in her face, and when she gets that gun, she
plans to use it.

She's also sarcastic, from 'Would you care to share that memory?' in 'My
Boyfriend Is A Vampire' to 'I wouldn't dream of using my head in here,'
in 'Strings.' Sarcasm isn't perky.

And the brilliant Evil Cousin Tiff wrote:
<snip>Tracy was even a bit mysterious. I mean, think about it. Sure you knew
> >Tracy was the commissioner's daughter, and that she's a good cop. But
> >what about before then?<snip>

Bonnie mentioned the tattoos, and Tracy was the only one who recognized
Christy Black, the druggie singer in 'Strings.' All the 'old people'
(Nick, Nat, Reese) had no klew who she was.

<snip>And did you ever see Tracy eat once during the whole third season? All I
> >ever saw was her drinking coffee... Tracy NEVER ate! Why? I don't know.<snip>
>
<snip>She drank tea with lemon once. I don't know about eating.<snip>

Tracy also drank orange soda in 'Francesca.' As for food, well, Nick ate more
on screen than Tracy did. When was there a reason for her to eat in the
storyline?
Most of the time we see her, she's working, and the only times we see Tracy
consume anything, she's hanging out, being sociable. Food was part of Schanke's
character - a married man getting all the donuts and souvlaki when his wife
can't catch him makes sense. Food and cooking (Missing Myra's pasta primavera
in 'Last Act,' Schank's scrambled eggs in 'Partners) symbolize the domesticality
in Schanke, and serve a point about who he is. Tracy has her own points - her
issues with her father and mother, how she deals with her friend Jody's illness,
how she is haunted by the death of her childhood friend Susan's death.

And this segues me into my next point: Tracy and Schanke were apples and oranges.
Tracy did not have the same relationship with Nick as her predecessor. Not once
do we see her at the loft, poking in the fridge, looking at the antiques,
commenting on the art, coming over for a get together of friends a la 'Unreality
TV.' She doesn't drop into Nick's life outside the lines of police work. Schanke
became Nick's friend over his two seasons. Tracy never became more than a co-worker.

Why doesn't Tracy figure out Nick's a vampire? Folks have mentioned the whammy
bit in 'Black Buddha,' but I have to add 'Night In Question.' As far as Tracy knows,
Nick narrowly escaped being killed with a bullet to the head. She saw him fall,
she had his blood on her clothes, she saw him wheeled off on a stretcher. I think
that spilt blood would have stuck with Tracy, as well as the idea that he was
someone who could be injured.

And finally, Nick is a cop. Tracy has been surrounded by cops all her life - they
aren't a big mystery to her. She's not inclinded to figure out what makes him tick
because she believes she already understands what makes a cop tick.

There's a part of Tracy that likes hiding what she knows about Vachon. She's a
little bit smug in 'Black Buddha' when she makes the comment about a 'dead end'
to Nick, because she thinks it's her own private little joke. It's her secret.
She's more focused on protecting that secret and figuring Vachon out than she is
in looking at Nick in a new way.

Okay, I'm done now.
