Nigel gave us a far more complex Lacroix than Michael Nader did. I didn't
care for Michael's version, but I do enjoy watching Nigel's version (even
when I hate what LC's doing).

I don't know that I can express what I enjoy so much about LaCroix, but it
isn't freedom from a set of morals or a willingness to take whatever he
wants. If it were that, I would enjoy every gangster in a gangster
movie. I would enjoy every character who has wealth and power and is using
that power only for his own gain.

If it were remembered only for that, I think it would be a loss. In Nick,
I see someone struggling to discover his own values. I see someone
learning what it means to live by his own values. I think his values are
very good ones, and living by them isn't always easy. He doesn't always
live up to his own ideals, and he doesn't have all the answers, but he
continues the struggle, nevertheless.

At the risk of being clobbered by crew-cut haired Nunkites <g>, and adding
that I, too, preferred Nigel over Michael, I must give this in Michael's
defense:

We only had the chance to see Michael's portrayal in one movie---as
dictated by the director and the producers. Who knows what he would/could
have done with the character if he had been given the chance that Nigel had
gotten?

And as much as I love Ger's portrayal: I liked Rick's too.
Heck---I would have loved to have seen what Robert Redford <sigh> would have
done with the role.

up some more tomorrow. Just send me the money, please and I'll send

Okay, I'm an idiot..I openly admit.

But can someone explain that episode to me? I got it that it's all a matter
of guilt..and Nick's mind was getting twisted by it..but
metaphorically...what's the whole deal with Alice in Wonderland???
And who got an award for best screenplay or something like that for that
episode? and was the category? I heard something about that...never quite
figured it out.
Thanks..

I'm sure someone has brought it up at sometime...

but with all this vampire stuff...Forever Knight, Kindred:The Embraced,
Interview With the Vampire, the chronicles...you name it. Who over here
believes that they exist? After all there must be some sort of "belief"
desire to know these creatures who fascinates us into watching shows and
movies about them, spending endless nights reading about them even, or
just...wondering. But do they exist? did they ever? and why is that we need
to have them still?

Amen. Everytime I have some, I offer up a silent apology to my dentist.
A trio of transplanted British ladies opened a food/jewelry store here
in Charlotte, NC earlier in the year. The first time I picked up a bottle
one of them asked me conversationally if I liked my Ribena hot or cold.
I promptly had a choking fit as the FK-appropriate thought '98.6 degrees'
popped into my head. She told me hot Ribena with a bit of lemon would do
wonders for my cough. <g>

Vampires are an archetypal image -- they symbolically represent an element
or aspect of human nature. They fulfill a basic function, just as Santa
Claus does, just as the Marlboro Man does (and I speak here outside of the
context of cigarettes -- "the western cowboy"). Vampire mythos allow us to
identify, personify, explore, examine, maybe even exploit some of our
darker and baser drives or impulses, fears and fantasies. They embody the
concepts of death, debauchery, self-indulgence, immortality, amorality,
sensuality, superiority, rape, seduction, selfishness, anarchy, temptation,
murder, sexuality, and on and on, depending on how they are portrayed. Any
and all of these aspects can have a fascination for us to a greater or
lesser degree, depending on our own proclivities, personalities,
backgrounds. By seperating these aspects into a character outside of
ourselves -- in fact, outside of the human race -- we can examine them,
indulge them, maybe (for those who do) admire them without embracing them
or exhibiting them in ourselves. It is only when someone takes that
admiration/fascination with this vampiric archetype and tries to live it
out in themselves that they fully come under the censure of society.

Just tell her it's packed full of vitamin C.<g>

I wonder when they first got onto using Ribenna as a blood substitute?

I have to say I love Ribenna. Was brought up on the stuff.<g> The idea of
course is to water it down to your own personal taste. To taste artificial

little A positive.<eg>
I guess I should pack a crate of the stuff to bring with me when I cross the

Unfortunately, the paper doesn't want to be paid in cash, and, living in the
UK, my bank has quoted the equivalent of $25 inclusive charge for a $10
bankdraft...I may flip a coin to decide whether I let the bank or eBay rip me
off...
