So why can't some one else do the posting? One story supposedly has been

I think that LC might've started to whammy her, but had serious doubts if he
could put her totally under and if it would stick, probably from observations
of her over time. He used the drugged champagne to assure his plan would
work. Part of his whammy would prevent her from noticing the champagne being
drugged or her being whammied. I think he would have her drinking enough to
get drunk enough she wouldn't suspect anything but not so drunk she passed
out, or was close to passing out. He wanted/needed her conscious for his plan
to work.

I think he finds her a worthy challenge. An intellect worth getting to know
better. He also probably respects her but would never let anyone know. She
has brains and beauty, and isn't afraid of a challenge. She seems to thrive
on them (which probably is part of the reason she became a forensic
pathologist/coroner). He likes sparring with her.

Val, I agree with everything you said in your post.

EEEKKK!!!! I don't think someone who says "He's Evil" as quickly as she did
in that scene (forget which ep) is going to be a NA. I know you were joking,
but it's too scary to ponder.

<<>Natalie is regaining a portion of her senses, but is still far from

Wouldn't this imply that Nat *wasn't* drugged? At least it seems to me
that she wouldn't start coming out of a drugged state so soon.

Unless the drug didn't last that long, or maybe the drug was just to take the
edge off so the whammy would be sure to work, and wasn't supposed to make her
too out of it. The whammy was starting to wear off which could explain it.

<<I find it interesting that from here on in we are shown a Nat who is much
more "aware" than she appeared to be on the actual episode. She is
able to talk and everything.>>

I liked that too. Too bad they had to cut most of that.

<< >It's obvious that Nick has made sure Natalie remembers nothing of their brief

Wasn't obvious to me watching it.

Same here! I wasn't sure who or what made her forget, if she did. I still
think she remember. If not that night, then sometime in the near future. It
probably came back to her in a couple of dreams.

Subject: Idle Thoughts

Was just thinking idly this morning about a particular pair of vampires
("g"), and started thinking about Nick before and after he came across.
Also, lately I've been wondering how LaCroix must have felt in taking
charge of a new fledgling, and how Nicholas himself must have affected the
old Roman. This morning I started to remember specific scenes in the show
that stuck out and how I could tie them into my personal construction of
what it means to become a vampire and how it affects someone. I thought
about what Nick's character had become in the time before he accepted
LaCroix' offer -- cynical, sybaritic, and arrogantly self-assured. You
could see it reflected in his face as he sat among his cronies and in
something about his manner with Janette. But after coming across, there
seemed to be a significant change -- he seemed younger, more full of
wonder, and certainly uncertain, but exhilirated.

What caused these changes? I thought of a variety of different things. My
personal construct would suggest that one reason was that his personality
was undergoing significant changes due to changes in his physical make-up
-- his brain, his body chemistry, etc. But also, I suppose, he must have
been awed by this amazing proof that there was more to the world than he
had experienced or expected. It must have been like finding out that
fairy-tales are true and that magic exists -- allbeit the darker side of
fairy-tales, and magic of the blacker sort. Where before it must have
seemed that his life was destined for nothing but sordid battles and
humdrum domesticity, now everything was touched with the extraordinary, the

Additionally, he might have -- to some degree -- felt like he was
undergoing a second childhood. Suddenly everything was uncertain and new
-- including the workings of his own body. Suddenly there was this
dominant father figure in his life upon whom he relied for guidance and
protection. Just as a child is grateful for a daddy he knows he can rely
on to take care of him in a world that is yet incomprehensible and that is
frighteningly large, Nicholas must have been grateful to have LaCroix there
to stand between him and the unknown. And if his impulsiveness had been
increased, and his inhibitions decreased by the physiological, and maybe
even metaphysical processes of being brought across, he certainly would
have needed a guiding hand.

As for LaCroix, if he perceived such a change, how did it affect him? Did
he expect it? Did it delight him? Worry him? Confound him? Had he
expected to have the cynical pleasure seeker at his side, only to discover
that he had created a creature full of idealism, vivacity and
introspection? Did he anticipate that this new creature would turn to him
as a son, or was it an unexpected but compelling development to a man so
long alone, with only one sole child he had ever felt drawn to keep at his
side? (As for why Janette, that is matter for consideration at another
time.) Did he bring Nicholas across because he wanted the sensuous and
self-possessed man Nicholas was or because he wanted a dependent, trainable
child to raise?

At this point, I'm not arguing one side or the other, because I don't know.
Neither Janette nor Nicholas were the first that he had ever brought
across, so he must have had some broad idea about how the process would
affect someone. But on the other hand, it doesn't appear that he ever
bothered to take any of his other fledglings under his wing, as he did
Janette and Nicholas. So why them, in particular? I don't know -- my
personal perception is that they had some spark of humanity (I know --
blasphemy! "g") in them that he found compelling, although he wouldn't have
been able to recognize or acknowledge this fact to himself. But, again,
that is a question for another time. The question here is why would
LaCroix take on fledglings at all -- because of who they were...or because
of who they made him?

Nat is not alone. She's not lonely. She does have other friends. Since the
show is Forever KNIGHT and not Forever LAMBERT we don't see much of her life
outside of work and being with Nick. Only the Lonely showed her calendar and
it was full of stuff from lunches with friends to baby showers and lectures.
She may not have a line of guys waiting to date her, but that could be
because of her work hours, her career, and the fact that she's smart. A lot
of guys are turned off by either her career choice or the fact that she might
be smarter than them. Working when most people are sleeping doesn't make for
an easy social life, outside of other nightshift workers. She might not want
to have a date every night. Not every woman needs to have a date every night
in order to feel like a woman.

I think she is attracted to Nick because of the interesting man he is. He's
both extremely kind, and can be quite nasty too. She is also drawn to the
dark side of both him and Lacroix. I think that you have to have some of that
in you in order to do what she does for a living and stay sane, and not turn
as cold as LC. Look at her sense of humor.

Yes, Nat does have insecurities and flaws. That's what makes her so
interesting. She is vulnerable. She doesn't always do or say the right thing,
but she tries to. She is very curious about the world around her, which is
what attracts her to vampires. They're something completely different from
anything else she's ever known. It is also what makes her so good at her
work. I suspect she has some hidden demons of her own (like abuse by Nana)
which have caused her to not get too attached to people, yet she still has a
warm, caring nature, but also an equally fierce temper. She's willing to
help someone out, but if you cross her.... look out!

Nat has to be one of the most realistic characters I've come across in a long
time. One of the few I've found on tv, in movies, or in books. I credit a lot
of this to Catherine for her excellent work in bringing Nat to life. And to
the wonderful chemistry between her and Ger.

I have a question... are you also a pathologist?

I write "The Dance Series". I don't know if you've read any of my stories,
but they are archived at www.angelfire.com/wi/CourageKnight .
Anyway, in the story I am currently working on, a mother suspects that her
husband murdered their infant. She's been trying for seven years to get
someone to investigate it, for the death was assumed to be SIDS related.
Now, if they exume a seven year old infant corpse, can they still determine
that the child suffocated? Severe cerebral edema, or something? Or after
that length of time, can anything be learned from an autopsy?

The product under discussion was a blood substitute that could be used
during surgery. .....Sitting in the back of the room, manning the video
camera, imagine my surprise at myself when the little thought popped up in
the back of my head -- "Yeah, but what does it taste like??"

Many of these products have a bovine origin, so maybe we know where some of
the DeBrabant money is invested.

I think I know who you're referring to...the barmaid in season 1? Nick
drained her, but wasn't it LaCroix who actually brought her over by giving
her *his* blood, not Nick who watched from an upper level landing?

I almost suggested (or maybe did suggest?) this lady myself when this debate
first started, but then I remembered that LaCroix was the one who finished the
deed. I think she was just mad at Nick for killing her, or perhaps it's better
to say victimizing her, in the first place.
