Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, Diane!
Kyer is always thrilled to receive more FK stories even if mediocre. <sigh>
I hope Mel's problems get resolved soon. Whenever she archived, I would see
one or two stories that I didn't remember seeing posted on fkfic-l.
Anyone else run across non FK sites that have FK fic? I know there is
www.fanfiction.net, but the selection is mostly from fkfic writers anyway.

YeeeEEEEeeeeEEEeee, what a thought! You are an evil, evil, EVIL woman!
And it needn't even be that complicated--we've seen unblended humans
healed in the sarcophagi a number of times. Mind you, it does baaaaaaad
things to the personality....which in Divia's case, come to think of it,
could explain a lot. *eg*
It would be interesting to contemplate how something designed to restore
the body to perfect human health would affect a vampire. It would have
to be modified somehow, but it could work. After all, they're obviously
programmed not to treat a Goa'uld symbiote as a medical problem, even
though it certainly doesn't normally belong in a human's nervous system!
So it would make sense that you could also program one to regard other
foreign elements (e.g. vampire traits) as normal. The only questions
you'd be left with would be how they got hold of it, who programmed it,
and why. I don't think any of the System Lords known in series canon to
date are supposed to have been still on Earth by that time (except
Hathor in her box, and now apparently Isis and Osiris in their jars);
but there's an awful lot of just the Egyptian pantheon left to pillage,
not to mention plenty of others.
And hey, didn't the sarcophagus LC sealed Divia in have the "symbol of
the sun-god" on it? And she said something about him being the enemy.
Maybe that enigmatic master of hers swiped it--and the secrets of using
it--from Ra!
Conversely, a sarcophagus could be *not* programmed to regard the
vampire traits as normal, but as an infection and/or genetic
damage...and therefore be a cure. But there's still that pesky tendency
to turn people (up to and including Daniel, a/k/a
He-Who-Makes-Alan-Alda-Look-Insensitive) sociopathic if they use it too
much. Which makes it something we really don't need certain
uninformed/curious/motivated folks in modern Toronto getting their hands
on...we thought Nick got scary on the lytovuterine! ~meep~
(Okay, this is pathetic, I'm ~meep~ing on spec about something I have
ZERO intention of writing...also, I think I've officially reached the
point of "who am I calling evil?"...)
Plus there's always the potential entertainment factor of LC running
into someone (pick a System Lord, any System Lord) with even more
destructive power in the service of even more childish self-absorption
than he has! As everyone keels over from the sheer amount of hot air in
the room... ;-)
Now that I think about it, I have actually read one crossover involving
FK and SG-1, but it's a multi-fandom sillyfic. It's a highly
entertaining one, however, perpetrated by the ever-insane and -brilliant
Dawn Steele:
http://rhiannon.dreamhost.com/angel/fanfic/justone.html
There's also nigh-irresistible sillyfic potential in the concept of
putting Nat and Sam in the same room and giving them something to
bouncily geek-bond over, leaving Nick and Schanke in the conversational
dust, thus inflicting severe deja vu about that alarmingly bubbly
neurologist chick in "Near Death" who looked *just like* this alarmingly
bubbly Samantha Carter person... ;-) (Amanda Tapping just possesses
WAY higher than legally acceptable levels of cute.)

He was fin until he saw the man that shot him. He killed him, and then lost

>2. What do you think the major cause of Ritchie's downfall was?
I think he became intoxicated by the power of the vampire and saw himself as
some sort of avenging angel. So much so that he lost all semblence of who he
once was. He turned on Nick, tossed Natalie over the couch, and came after
his own wife. I believe he didn't really know how to control the power and
it consumed him. It is essential to any vampire's survival to control the
power, as Janette mentioned in the Raven when Nick talked to her about
bringing someone over. I also think that Nick put too much faith in Ritchie
to be able to handle that power. Nick scoffed at Janette about the bond and
responsibility of making a new vampire.
> 3. What do you think will happen when Sarah's hypno-suggestion wears off?
That's a debatable question. Will it wear off at all?
> 4. Why didn't Nick use up some of that sick time and properly take care of
> his new charge?
Nick took Ritchie at his word that he wouldn't leave the loft. He put too
much faith in Ritchie's ability to deal with his new instinct and desires:
maybe because he thought that Ritchie would not "lose it" because of what he
had waiting for him - his wife and child.
> 5. Do you think LaCroix knew about this?
I'm sure Janette would tell LC because she thought what Nick was doing was
foolish and potentially dangerous. I'm sure LC would not interfere as long
as Nick handled his responsibility. Besides, LC always has always enjoyed
observing Nick's "crusades" for the underdog, so to speak.

that there is room for much to go wrong -- insanity or other mental
deficiencies seem probable, considering how complex and delicate the brain
can be. Maybe that is one of the reasons the FKverse isn't overrun with
vampires, and maybe one of the reasons why LaCroix is so proud of Nick and
Janette?
>>
I have to agree with much of this.
Remember, LC purposely left out lessons in Nick's education. He admitted that
he never taught Nick how to bring someone over. He doesn't want to share Nick
with anyone.
I think that Nick did the best he could. I think that when someone is brought
across they can be tempted by their immortality. They might want to do stuff
that they would never consider doing for various reasons. But they might not
do it. I think that vampirism can bring out the best and worst in a person.
Which side they live by is up to them, and their master.
I think that there are certain things a vampire has to know, but other than
that, what they learn is largely due to their master's teachings. I'm sure
they can and do pick up stuff from other vampires.
I think that Janette did teach Nick some stuff their master didn't teach him.
I think even she wasn't taught everything, but as a woman she might've been
taught more because LC didn't see her as a threat, like he sometimes does
with Nick.

Subject: Nick and Crosses
Is Nick only affected by crosses or religious symbols that he sees? He
doesn't seem to have a problem with crosses unless they are directly before
him or are placed in his field of vision. In other words, Nick for example,
walks right into the Museum in "Dark Knight-I" and up the stairs, and only
stops when he sees the suit of armour holding the cross. He seems to have
no problem in being near it until he sees it. Also in the episode called
"Bad Blood," he has no problem driving with the rookie detective in the back
seat wearing the cross that Liam gave to her. It is only when she shows it
to him that he almost steers the Caddy in the path of oncoming traffic. He
obviously was able to carry around Joan of Arc's cross for a few centuries
with no trouble. The only problem seemed to be when he opened the case to
look at it or touch it. I know there must be dozens of more examples of
Nick with crosses, but does the problem only exist for him when he knows the
cross is there? Can he just close his eyes and not be affected?

Okay Folks,
Humor the overcaffeinated NightAngel please. In what ep did Nick
actually try to whammy Nat? Is it mentioned somewhere and I just don't
remember or is it just an assumption that he tried after he woke on her
autopsy table? Or was it one of those Vital pieces of information that
is left out in the US versions of FK? LaCroix was able to whammy her (or
did he drug her wine first?) and put her into a hypno state fairly
easily. Is that what made Nick's suggestion stick after LaCroix left
Azure or am I right and Nat is not a Resister? If that's the case, Why
didn't the enforcers get involved after Nick didn't erase her memory of
his 'resurrection"?

I think there is Some psychosomatic response in there - fearwise. But if
he accidentally encountered a cross I think he'd still be burned. IIRC,
in Blackwing, Nick touched that ritual knife not knowing that it was a
Holy relic and was affected. So, my 2 cents (will give change if you
want), says that if he backed up into the cross or whatever it would
still burn him, which would make him back up turn around and then be
afraid.. Be very afraid. <G>

In Natalie's flashbacks in "Only The Lonely", we're led to believe
he tried and failed to whammy her. It's the scene when Nick passes

and she turns around and makes it clear that she has not forgotten

Subject: Re: Nick and Crosses
Nick's main problem with crosses is that he is afraid of them. He tells
this to Nat in FIHS. Something about them being the one true light and he
is a creature of the night. He is trying to conquor that fear. He does it
in small steps, looking at the cross, getting closer to it, touching it...
much like modern psychology might deal with any other psychosis.
However, I believe that Forever Knight vampires are more than just afraid of
religious things. They actually suffer physical pain from the contact, and,
they react negatively to a religious item even if they don't know that it
is. Nick burns his hand in the flashback with Joan of Arc, and he gets a
nasty jolt when he touches the ceremonial knife in Blackwing.
Some have suggested that this fear is "all in their heads". However, Nick
was also afraid of the Jewish candlesticks in --was that Partners of the
Month? And, LaCroix is afraid of the Crucifixs in Sons of Belial. If the
great and mighty LaCroix can be brought low, then I believe the fear is
instinctive and cannot be totally erradicated.
Nick has been trying to "condition" himself to face religious symbols, and
so, he can walk past them. But, when one "pops" out at him by surprise, he
still jumps. I love mice - I've had them for pets, and even little wild
mice, although destructive, can be adorable. However, when I opened a
closet door and one jumped off a coat hangar onto my shoulder and ran down
my leg, I screamed pretty loud.
LaCroix wasn't noticeably affected by the Crucifix in SOB until the priest
went to move it closer to Nick... then he jumped back. And since the knife
in Blackwing burned Nick's hand, I'd say that no, vampires couldn't just
close their eyes and not be affected.

-yes, Serene, in Baby, Baby.
I have read two thoughts... that the new convert's basic personality is
magnified by the conversion, and, that the conversion naturally brings about
a temporary insanity - necessary to change the infant from being a mortal
into being a killer of mortals.
Nick thought the doctor in the Plague episode was seeking only to help
patients, but he was actually looking for personal glory. He wanted to be
the one to find the cure to the plague, or at least, to be famous for his
work. WHen he became immortal, he didn't really "change" - his selfishness
intensifies. The woman dying of Leprosy (?) wanted revenge on her
tormentors. Nick probably didn't need to kill her. After she killed them,
maybe she would have become a good little vampire? I don't think LaCroix
would have killed Nick, if after coming across, he wanted to go back to the
Holy Land and kill a few more saracens... as long as he was discreet.
Also, Nick is not an emotionally balanced vampire. His confusion must pass
on to his children through his blood. I think that is why his vampire child
Serene also wants to find mortality again.
>2. What do you think the major cause of Ritchie's downfall was?
Infant vampires need close supervision. Nick wasn't "mature" enough to be a
master. Nick hadn't wanted to bring him across, and so he was very
distraught, and those powerful emotions pelted the new convert.
> 3. What do you think will happen when Sarah's hypno-suggestion wears off?
Why would it wear off?
> 4. Why didn't Nick use up some of that sick time and properly take care of
> his new charge?
A grave error on his part, to be sure. I think, that since Nick still
resents LaCroix's power and influence on him as too controlling a master,
Nick swings the pendulum too far in the other direction, as too liberal a
parent, to the point of not parenting at all.
> 5. Do you think LaCroix knew about this?
Sure. He was probably enjoying a good laugh.

<4. Why didn't Nick use up some of that sick time and properly take care
of his new charge?>
I know, I should have tagged this one on the end on the other one..
I think Nick didn't take the sick time because quite honestly he didn't
want Richie to survive his transormation.
Think about it. By LaCroix own demonstration you don not leave a fledgling
alone. Especailly one just brought across. Also, Nick only brought Richie
back because Natalie hysterically guilted him into it. Nick probably knew
that he could have his cake and eat it to by letting Richie go psychotic.
That way Natalie would beg him to kill her brother and Nick would have one
less Vampire in the world to crucify himself for.
Nick is too selfrighteous to allow himself to create a vampire now. And
how better to not make a vampire? By sabotaging the offspring so that it
is a requirement that it be destroyed.

So, he is only harmed by crosses that he has some physical contact with,
either by sight or touch. In other words, except for the "Blackwing"
example, he has to know it's there for the holy object to harm him. So
theoretically, Nick could unknowingly be placed blindfolded into a church
filled with crosses and suffer no ill effects unless he touched something?

My guess would be that Nick can be burned by crosses and stuff without
knowledge of their presence, i.e., he can back into them and be harmed, but
in order for them to actually generate fear he has to be able to see them.
So yeah, I agree with your prognosis :)

Since you didn't recognize him, then I'm guessing you haven't seen him on
Beggars and Choosers which airs on Showtime. He's terrific and has a
wonderful comedic timing. His cohort in gossip on B&C has a recurring role
on SG-1 too. If you get a chance, check them out on Showtime, the show is
terrific as are they.

Subject: I need a beta reader
All right. My regular beta-reader and I have pretty much red-penned my
latest story to death, but with all of those changes, brand new typos and
things are bound to show up. Would anyone be interested in doing a quick
read over of my story? I'm basically only interested in finding all the
missed typos and glaring grammatical errors that have been missed and left
astray in the nuclear red-ink war; I think the plot is pretty ironed out at
this point and doesn't need to be touched although any comments would be
welcome :)
It's a Nick-centric flashback story, about 90kb in length.
Let me know! Thanks!
