I can't say for the NYC area, but this certainly applied when I lived in San
Diego (I had a HUGE cassette collection when I lived there because the
morning dj's were so bad), and the ones here in the UK are no better
(although they do play more music).

I think Schanke would be a better dj than Nick. Nick projects too much
angst. There'd be mass suicide as all the drivers succumbed to their
Nick-induced depression and drove off the road..... <g>

I opened my e-mailbox a few days ago and saw this subject for some mail,
and got excited that I had gotten another story either by or about Nat's

Celebrate the Glory of Sydney with Sandbox!

It took me a good while to figure out it was stuff about the olympics from
a company named Sandbox. What a disappointment.

This isn't an idle question -- what would LaCroix use, a COMB or a BRUSH?
Answering "neither" or "nothing" isn't an option; even if he usually just
towels dry and goes, I would guess sometimes his hair would get mussed or
flattened and he would want to spruce it up. I've never had short hair and
certainly never a buzz cut or flat-top or whatever you would call LaCroix's
hairstyle, so I can't decide.

Help? Please?

Well, my dad is half way to baldom and he uses a short-toothed rubber comb.

Besides, I just can't picture LC with a brush..
They were originally made with pig (boar) bristles. Besides..
Combs have TEETH! Bwahaahaa! (now which do *you* think LC would choose?)

Also, what with LaCroix's attitude, I keep picturing him as the Fonz from
Happy Days, holding that plastic comb as he strides to the mirror, and...
"Haaay!" The hair is perfect (in his eyes), why fix it?
Which would explain first season.

Having fairly short hair myself, <not as short as LC, but still fairly short, I
would have to say that if he had to fix his hair, just water/gel, and his
hand. Maybe resorting to a brush for those 'hippie hair days' <all three
inches of it!>!

Back in the 70's local station WNTS had an afternoon call in show with
David Letterman. Don't know if you could call him a DJ since they didn't
play records but hearing him trade quips with kids just home from school
was a delight.

I have a female friend who's hair is no more than a 1/2 inch long (that's
probably a generous guesstimate) and she uses a wide toothed comb when it
needs sprucing up.

Subject: Happy Autumnal Equinox!

In celebration of the Autumnal Equinox, which occurred at 17:11 Greenwich Mean
Time on Friday September 22, 2000, someone would like to tell you a little
story. It has a point, so do, please, stick with it....
---------------------------------------

"Some time ago, I found myself at a local swap meet. Now, being a CLOSET
Ratpacker, this isn't something I go around admitting to on just any whim, but
as it is key to the telling of this story, well, there you go. So, as I was
saying, while at this swap meet, I met a very nice girl -- maybe some of you
know her? Dark, Vachonesque hair (except with better bangs)? Anyway ...
unfortunately for her, no one seemed to be stopping at her table, and it was no
wonder because, upon closer inspection, I found she had only one, rather obscure
item to offer.

"We began to chat, and she told me her sad tale of how she came to possess
this item and why she found herself forced to sell it away. It seems that a
handful of years ago, she met this rather unique and interesting guy and, for a
song ('Long and Winding Road,' by The Beatles, I believe she said it was), he
gave her a website. Well, I picked it up to look through it; it appeared to be
an old, dilapidated church -- long since de-sanctified, she assured me. She
said, a while back a fire had gotten hold of most of it, but what remained I had
in my hand -- the library of this very church. Well, it was difficult to tell
from the cobwebs and cinders all of what was there, but I took a chance.
Besides, she looked like a nice girl, just down on her luck -- something about
desperately needing money to pay for her dog's synchronized swimming lessons.

"So, for quite a bit more than a song, and, frankly, more than I thought it
was worth at the time, I bought the decrepid Church Library website from her. I
took it home and set it on my mantle, then promptly forgot about it while one
season slowly bleed into another. But, then, one day, a thought occurred to me,
which might surprise those of you who falsely perceive me, as some falsely
perceive Keanu Reeves, as shallow and stupid. I decided to take another look at
the library website. With a little spit and polish, a lot of disinfectant,
several gallons of really thick paint, some peanut butter to remove the gum left
under the pews by the Vaqueros, a bushel or so nails, and some M&Ms (hey, I got
hungry), I worked long and hard to restore the website to its once grand luster.

"Well, it turns out that my lofty ideas were just that, lofty. In the end,
the church proved to be beyond repair, so I decided to change locations. And,
since Vachon had spent all that time cleaning up Screed's place after 'Fever,' I
thought, why the heck not?! I mean, all that empty space just going to waste,
and all this loverly library-ish material in want of a new home. What could be
a more perfect solution?

"So, with that happy thought chiseled into your brain, I am pleased to
announce the grand opening of the former Church Library, now located at ...

"There is art, there is literature -- including an Autumnal, grand-opening,
fiction contest with cool prizes -- and more!

"So, please drop in for a visit! Vachon really did a great job of cleaning
up -- honest, you'll be surprised -- and the paint is finally dry.

"Oh, and don't mind those boxes over in the corner, I'm still unpacking a
few things, so they'll be more stuff the next time you stop in.

     "Most sincerely,

Wheeeee! First substantial role I've gotten to see our Mr. Bass in
since FK, and he done good!

And hey, he may not get to be the new System Lord in the game that they
were implying all the way through (and, okay, *really* obvious twist);
but the character *did* survive the experience, and is someone it could
be really useful and interesting to bring back at a later date. So we
can hope for that. Go, Ben!!

(In fact, we may really need him if they don't stop *doing* this stuff
to Daniel, and his brain breaks! *shakes head* C'mon, folks, Sha're is
barely cold in her grave. Give the poor guy a break!! ~meep~)

>1. Would Nick make a good DJ?

I can see him as a panelist on CBC Radio's show, National Affairs. He'd
be constantly at odds with the producer... Actually, he'd make a really
good host for This Morning--educated, sympathetic, but firm.

>2. Would Schanke make a good DJ?
Absolutely! But talk about an eclectic music mix: Polka, opera, &
classic rock all on the same show.

>3. Do you believe pop-psychologists can help people?
Only if they're bored people.

>4. Do you think this was a foreshadowing of LaCroix coming back as a
DJ?
No, this was Nick's way of one-upping the dear departed.

>5. Who is your favorite DJ and why? (Doesn't have to be FK).
Peter Gzowski. Oh, you meant DJ, not radio host.

After much pestering over breakfast from my youngest cat, Emily, I was persuaded
to let her frolic among the pages of this new site. Apparently Cosmo Kramer is

poking her paws into things that shouldn't be touched by furry appendages. As soon
as she stops grooming and comes out from under the bed I will tell her so.

The point of this post, however, is to say http://www.ScreedWasHere.com looked
