Uh...don't know how that happened! I thought I erased Cheryl's msg and
typed in my own, but when I sent it, her original msg showed up as well.
Sorry! It's kinda freaky.....

What I meant to post was:

I have a question -- did anyone see that David Duchovny/Minnie Driver
movie, "Return to Me"? In one scene, David's character has chinese food
delivered, and I could have sworn the delivery girl was Divia! Did anyone
else see that? Have I just got too much FK on the brain?

I also saw Jennifer Dale (The Baroness in 'If Looks Could Kill,' also
Director on 'Once A Thief') in the promos for the new series 'Live Through This'
on
MTV which begins airing August 9th, 10pm ET. She plays Annie Baker, the band's
lead
singer and a recovering alcoholic.

Where there's one Canadian actor, more are sure to follow.
Does that make Canadian actors honorary Ratpackers? <g>

Oh, geez.... I can't remem when I first subbed, but it had to be way back when!
I've been on and off many times over the years... had to sub and unsub due to
job changes, email changes... marriage, kids... :-)

And my contribution to the Old Listee's...

You're a List/FK Dinosaur if:

1. You originally watched FK when it was on CBS!
(Crimetime after Primetime... at the ungodly <g> hour
     of 12:30 am... (eastern)

2. You remember when the First Unofficial Forever Knight Page
went up... It was created by Gaylin Walli, aka Jasmine, and
used to be hosted on the MichTechU servers.

When *did* the list first originate? I know Jas pointed me to it, as well as
getting me hooked on FK in the first place.

Subject: I'm embarrassed to be a FK fan

Yes, I am truly embarrassed to be a FOREVER KNIGHT fan this morning. A friend of
mine, a REAL LIFE friend, who has been known to lurk on this list (though I
don't think is subbed right now) watched ULTRA VIOLET and decided to check out
the message boards.

She e-mailed me to say how upset she was at what she found: many complaints,
nasty ones, from FK fans *against* UV. She said she's embarrassed and frankly,
so am I.

She's a fan who has written letters to bring back FK and for more FK merchadise.
If she's this upset, how many other potential "bring back FK" letter writers are
now so turned off they will never write another letter nor encourage other fans
to do so? How many other people will never discover FK because they are so
turned off by these messages? How would we like it if fans of another show
started flooding our message boards and lists with anti-FK messages?

Damage has been done. GREAT damage. Is this the image as fans we really want to
give to Sci Fi, Sony, and other fandoms? There's a lot of us who are BUFFY fans,
but the message conveyed over UV sends the impression that FK fans can only be
fans of FK and no other programs.

Living in Central Arkansas and being a science fiction/Star Trek fan, I've
already had to live for years with "the Star Trek jurist" who insisted on
wearing her Star Trek costume to a Federal jury. I don't know her, but I have
seen her around town - always in that costume. For a while, many Trek fans
around here were afraid of ridicule if they admitted they liked Trek. Posting
rude and inflamatory messages to other shows' message boards is the same thing
in a virtual world - it makes me afraid to say, "FK? I *love* that show... Let
me make you a tape of some episodes. By the way, we have this letter writing
campaign going on...."

Yes, this morning I am truly embarrassed over what I hope are the actions of a
few. We need damage control and it is probably going to take a long time to undo
the damage that has been done. When I saw a post earlier in the week basically
saying we should post to UV message boards telling TPTB that we won'd stand for
"UV to replace FK," I replied with a message urging folks NOT to be rude. I had
a fear that they would be. And they have...

And now I want to crawl under a walk and never watch FK again. Hopefully, I will
get over it.

Wow, I haven't read any of the message boards. Sounds like some people have
been going overboard on this. I'm a fan of many sci-fi shows, and would
never insult one over the other.

>She's a fan who has written letters to bring back FK and for more FK

I was originally wary of being part of this, particularly because of recent
attention to spam and denial of service attacks. I thought that if one
person went nuts with nasty e-mails, we might all get in trouble. Hopefully
people will realize that not all FK e-mail writers are flamers.

>For a while, many Trek fans around here were afraid of ridicule if they

That's been the case in many areas, I think. It got worse when the movie
Trekkies came out. I'm not ashamed to be associated with it or sci-fi in
general, but then maybe it's because i've been a bit of a "nerd", to use the
mundanes' term, most of my life. It is wonderful to have met so many people
who like the same things I do and to know I'm not the only one, nor the only
woman who likes sci-fi. Message boards like this are great!

I do hope that the message board flamers reconsider thier views.

Since she's a coroner, she probably is entitled to sign herself as a
medical examiner. Before she met Nick, Natalie had so much free time that
she managed to pursue her other love, singing (she's a coroner _and_ a
crooner), and she even did a master's thesis on Canadian folksongs. After
that, overachiever that she is, Natalie joined Toastmasters so that she
could host the ceremonies & toasts at her brother's wedding reception. Oh,
and as a teenager, Natalie saved a woman trapped in a burning car, for
which she was awarded Canada's Medal of Bravery, and the right to use the
initials MB after her name. So her business card reads "Natalie Lambert,

I'm embarrassed, too. When the executive producer of scifi.com finds it necessary
to post on the UV bulletin board, "Also, I would appreciate it if FK fans could try
to contain the FK talk to their many dedicated topics on the BBoard or at least
to this article in the UV topic...the UV fans clearly feel their forum is being
overwhelmed by FK fans, and I think it would be courteous to let them discuss
their show in their forum," that is not a positive advancement for the plight of
FK. A few people may have had how they felt about Forever Knight and Ultrviolet
acknowledged, but at what cost to the rest of us?

Just because we may think Sci-fi hasn't responded appropriately to our requests
for more FK in the past, that doesn't condone inappropriate behavior and an
abandonment of netiquette.

To paraphrase Ricardo Montalban, "Just because you love something, that's no
reason to be rude."

Sometimes, I too, am embarrassed to be a FK fan. A year and a half ago, I
would have said that FK fans were the nicest people on the internet.
Unfortunately, I have learned that this is no longer true.

I find FK fans who get insulting when others have different opinions. I
heard about altercations and problems among fans at GER's plays and fan
gatherings, and I had to wade through some hurtful postings to one of the
chatrooms. And I have received eleven "hate" emails from FK fans... A small
number compared to the thousand or more positive emails I've received, but
no less hurtful.

I deleted them, or I would post them here. I mean, if you don't like a
story, there is a delete key. No response is a response. It truly is not
necessary to write to an author EVER and list what you disliked about her
writing skills, story line, character developments... We write for fun, not
profit.

One email claimed my story was "so riddled with mis-spelled words that it
was a chore to get through it". I have everything beta-read by two or three
people, run a spellchecker, and I proof read everything. There are still a
few typos, but three mistakes per hundred pages is hardly "riddled".

One email accused me of never watching the series, that my portrayal of the
characters was so far from fact.

And one post to a fanlist insulted my intelligence, by claiming that the
"more erudite among the fans believe...". I didn't even bother to respond
that I graduated suma cum laude with a dual degree in Education, or that the
poster was mistaken in her claims, as I felt that it would just run right
over her head.

I have been tempted to cancel all my list memberships, and if such
ridiculous nonsense continues, I shall.

Sincerely,
Lorelei Sieja

To all Fk Fans,

What started as a suggested gentle way to express to TPTB that we all
preferred to see FK has turned into something that it was never meant to be.

Ultra Violet will have its audience I am sure.

FK fans are devoted, loyal and want the Show back very very much! After
Bonnie Hammer's online chat, the impression was that Fk was then, UV is now,
which seemed to bother many FK fans that attended the chat. It bothered them
enough that they wanted to discuss and come to some kind of method to address
it.

I did ask a lot of you to include in your e-mails the fact that we would all
prefer FK, but in no way was my suggestion meant to turn things into an ugly
armed camp with fans of UV on one side and FK on the other. There certainly
is room for both.

I certainly hope that this will not interfere with any KtK projects planned
as I'm sure that we are very close to achieving our goal. I don't believe
anyone ever meant to suggest that Fk fans could not enjoy other Vampire
series.

If UV fans or anyone else took offense at the FK fans fervor, I'm sure that
apologizes will be happily offered if it was taken in the wrong way.

Forever Knight fans are the best in the world, and would never, ever do
anything to cause damage or hurt feeling throughout fandom.

Please do not let this particular incident drive anyone away from our
intended goal.

wathcing FK as I was reading that it was a loser show about a WUSSY vampire

Please, everyone, dont be be a vocal minority. If you dont like something,

Subject: WHOA! (re: I'm embarrassed to be a FK fan)

I want to clarify a few thingees ;-)

First off, i support Kickstart the Knight 100%... I believe the rude posts on
the UV board was just a few fans who got carried away and didn't think before
posting the messages. Thus they were NOT associated with KtK in any way. We have
gotten a second sound track, now we need more stuff, a tv movie, and at the
least a return of the reruns to Sci Fi Channel. So write those letters, send
those e-mails, post APPROPRIATE messages on bulliten boards staying on topic and
respecting the views of others.

As for flames going off list to fiction writers, for SHAME on those sending
them! Someone pulled that trick on me the first time I posted a story to JADFE.
In fact, two people did. On the adult JADFE list it is permissable to post
on-topic discussion so I posted that I wasn't finishing the story since everyone
hated it.... To make a long story short, I received well over 100 "but you HAVE
to finish it, I love it!" verses the two flames (and I later found out the pair
were working together). One of the two must have forgotten all about flaming me
as I received an extremely nice letter from her several years ago in which she
told me I was one of her fav FK fanfic writers. That healed a lot of wounds.

If you do get flamed for a story, IGNORE THEM. There's some folks out there who
get their jollies saying nothing but mean stuff to writers. By quitting you are
only allowing them to get their way (I learned that). Keep on writing and show
them what's what!<wRPg>

FK fans are among the nicest you will find on-line. I should know. It was an FK
fan who called me in person the day my now-ex left and insisted on staying on
the phone until a Real Life friend arrived at my house to assure I was okay. An
FK *actor* has encouraged me to follow creative venues I probably would have
given up on had it not been for the brief but encouraging words. We've helped an
on-line friend get back on her feet after her and her husband lost almost
everything in a fire. We've found one of us who was presumed dead and helped her
see, once again, the joys of life.

I've been very fortunate to get to meet many of us in person with only one
incident that could even remotely be called "that's not a friendly person." I've
made FK friends on-line who are now my real life friends.

Yes, when I hear something negative I want to crawl under a rock. But I'm a
Ratpacker... we like dark places. Eventually, though, I'm lured out by a treat -
not a treat of cheesy poofs (although that'd work) but by the treat of being
reminded that the great majority of Forever Knight fans are Forever Friends and
Forever Kewl.

So, just please remember in our campaigns to realize that FK is not everyone's
favorite show. We should respect other fandoms and extend the hand of friendship
by offering to help them get their shows renewed in hopes they will, in turn,
discover FK and offer to help us.

Please - no one unsub over this... And would someone please offer me some
cheese, it is getting chilly under this rock!<wRPg>

After reading Libs message, I went to the Ultaviolet board to check it out
for myself. And in my opinion, I have to agree with her sentiments. I didn't
read each and every message posted by FK fans -- there were too many -- but I
would characterize the vast majority of the ones I did read as rude,
childish, immature (I know that's redundant), spiteful, and argumentative.
Those few who were polite and respectful in their postings, were greatly
overshadowed by those who were not. It is a shame that some of our members
felt the need to express their opinons in such a negative manner, and I would
hope that over time, we'll be able to overcome the prejudice this instilled
against FK.

One other point I would like to make in regards to the SFC's willingness or
ability to air FK -- they have to obtain the rights from Sony. Whether Sony
has resisted granting SFC the rights, or whether SFC haven't asked, I don't
know. So before we start condemning SFC for not caring about what we want and
not listening to us, do we know the answer to this question?

Oh, dear! Guys, Toronto at one point wasn't getting FK while the show was
still in first run because the woman who was in the position to schedule it
got so upset with rude fans. This is especially distressing because FK used
to have a reputation for nice fans. My suggestion would be that some of us
get on those boards and maybe SciFi and apologize for the behavior of the
rude FK fans. It couldn't hurt and might help. Also, please let's keep
FK-related posts on other show's territory related to the subject of the
other show. Flaming the other show will not help!

Yes, we have a common interest, but we are all individuals and it is this
individuality that makes us strong and interesting. We are not unlike a
family which is made of several distinct personalities. We argue and
disagree, but our love for what binds us together does not diminish because
of the rash and frustrated acts of a few. As good as we are, we are not
perfect- no group is. We can only now hope to learn from our mistakes, and
continue to grow. I am sure that we have all experienced the pain that
Lorelei and the others have mentioned, and I wish with all my heart that I
could erase what has transpired for them and for us all. Maybe this would
be a good time for us all to remember to think before we write something

Way to go! I've appreciated the concern of all of those who have so far
cautioned against the dangers of vindictiveness directed at UV on behalf of FK.
Nastiness never really pays off -- it mostly disgraces the one practicing it.
However, I have had an additional concern. Many of those supporting Libs (and
this is not an opinion that her views don't deserve support)have made statements
along the line of "I haven't read the posts myself, but I think it is terrible,
etc." The danger of this is that it reflects some of the same error that the UV
board posters are accused of -- making opinions without any basis. Ms. Kerr, by
making the effort to read several of the posts before commenting, gives her
comments weight and shows herself to be a shrewd and analytical thinker -- well
done! "g" Thanks for the example -- I've felt terrible about the impression we
may have made with Sci Fi, but I guess I'll read the board before making any
comments on that matter.

And thanks, Libs, for alerting us to this issue regarding our honor and
reputation as a fandom.

I checked out the BBoard today to see for myself, and I cringed over some of
the things that were written there. Even though FK and UV are totally
different shows, there'd be room for fans of both shows to co-exist nicely,
and points could be made without resorting to flaming and making nasty
remarks about UV.

Unfortunately, when this sort of stuff gets posted on the 'Net, that gives
those people who would like to see these types of shows go off the air for
good, all the ammunition they need to make their point about how such
''strange horror'' shows are 'destroying family values'. Instead of 'saving'
FK, some of our number may be doing everything that they can in order to kill
off its chances of ever coming back in any form, and that would be
disasterous for the rest of us who have been patiently writing and working
hard for it to come back.

Am I embarassed to be an FK fan? No, I'm not, but when a small group of
people get together and flood the BBoard with negative messages against UV
(without good cause, IMHO), that doesn't make the rest of us look good, and
re-enforces the negative image of fandom that many people have acquired over
the years.

I'd hate to see all of the hard work that's been done by KtK on behalf of FK
be all for nothing just because of the 'immaturity' of a few rowdy ''fans''.

Peace! :)

I think the embarrassment is coming from those who are NOT tolerant of
others preferences. Many here are. But there seems to be a few that are
nasty. That is the problem. The vocal minority does not do anyone any
good.

Their bad actions and comments do not facilitate the fandom, and suits and
executives only need an excuse to not do things. They can only reacct on
what they see and hear, and if the jerks are the loudest and the most
obvious..... thats what they are going to think of us...right or wrong...
We cannot as a fandom tolerate that sort of behavior because of that.

Lets look at what happened to Trekkeis is the best example. The majority are
not 35 year old geeks and losers living in the basement of their mother's
house and cannot get a date, and wear ears all the time and speak fluent
Klingon... But you know what a lot of people think..> exactly that...

Suits are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I am not nor will I ever be embarrassed to be a Forever Knight fan! We, the
fans, are not of one mind. We are not to be praised nor condemned as one.
