Subject: Highlander GWD question

Hi there;

I need some info and would be very grateful if some knowledgeable fan could
help,
In "Turnabout," the episode of Highlander were GWD quest starred as
Michael Moore/Quentin Barnes. I need some to clear up the following:

What kind of sword did Michael/Quentin use?
Please, I need to know what type it is with a brief description.....it's VERY
important.

E-mail me OFFLIST, so we don't cloud the list.

Thanks a bunch in advance,

Subject: Re: TO SLEEP WITH A VAMPIRE

This 1992 movie is a remake of a 1988 film, DANCE OF THE DAMNED. Given the
extremely close similarity between the 2, the later one can't have been
significantly influenced by FK. I have no idea why anyone felt it necessary
to remake such an obscure movie (undeservedly so -- J. Gordon Melton calls it
one of the greatest vampire films ever made, and while I might not go that
far, DANCE OF THE DAMNED has a unique freshness that sets it apart from the
vast horde of derivative vampire movies over the years), esp. when the 2
scripts are almost verbally identical at many points. Another illustration
of the fact that the "tormented vampire" character has long since become, so
to speak, the "common property" of the genre. What I like about this pair of
films is the unabashed ALIENNESS of the vampire. (Literally as well as
emotionally -- he belongs to another species; he's not a supernatural
revenant.) Aside from being tormented, he has practically NO resemblance to
Nick.

Since Lacroix was there worrying over his plantations, I always assumed that
Nick was in Vietnam in the early years of the war. (didn't most of the
plantation-owning french pull out of vietnam long before the Americans did?)

Subject: Any Listmembers in Columbia, South Carolina?

Hi y'all! :-)

I'm going to be in Columbia, SC for the weekend, and I thought that I'd drop
a note saying that I'd love to meet any local listmembers who'd like to meet
a fellow "listie" on such short notice. I always try to meet fellow
listmembers in other cities, especially fellow listmembers to whom I've
given the Toronto FK filming sites tour. :-)

Now, just so that you know - being the "ignorant tourist" that I am, I'm
probably going to ask for the "local view" on (what else) "the flag issue".
If you can possibly put up with talking about that for just a little bit
more, I'd be happy to listen to what you have to say, because I'm sure that
what I'm seeing in the media isn't necessarily "the whole story".

I'll be leaving in about three hours, so I don't suppose that I'm going to
be bombarded with replies on short notice. Mind you, if you see this note
before 9pm or 10pm today and are interested in getting together, please drop
me a line because I may still be here to get it.

Cheers,
W., aka Curious Cousin Will, Forever Tourist and volunteer tour guide

What is the correct term for the garments equivalent to trousers a Crusader
would have worn?

Well -- he wouldn't have worn trousers. His legs would have been
protected by thigh-high woolen hose (cut from cloth and seamed up the
back, not knitted), gartered with linen strips. He would probably have
worn braies, basically loose-fitting underpants of lightweight linen
gathered onto a drawstring, or sometimes a more substantial belt. These
would have come to the knee or slightly above, and would be covered by
his shirt (sherte) and the tunic (bliaut) he wore over it. Whatever else
they messed up in Queen of Harps, the got the length of Nick's costume
right.

Jokes about women wearing the braies (i.e., "the pants in the family")
were a medieval staple.

The next step in fashion came not long after Nick was brought across.
Outer garments got much shorter, and so did the underpants ("slops").
Hose became longer and more tailored to the leg, with a sole built in so
that no separate boot or shoe was required. Hose and were tied with
tapes to the waistband of the underwear, and the bottom legs of the
slops were tucked into the hose. Some men didn't wear any underpants,
but simply tucked or tied their shirts between their legs to cover
themselves front and back. This was precarious -- imagine the potential
for exposure.

As overgarments got even shorter, the hose were sewn together up the
back. This sounds more modest, but there were complaints from clergy
about the fact that when a man bent over you could see the outline of
his equipment as if it had been painted a gaudy color! Eventually (we're
talking Renaissance) the codpiece was created to provide front coverage.

Besides which, trousers or breeches, whatever you want to call them, wouldn't
have fit too well under plate armor.

Maybe if he wore chain mail, but then he'd have some kind of protective
leggings, too.

However much they have in common, Ger is *much* better looking,
and from what I've heard, actually appreciates his fans.
Vs. William Shatner, who doesn't seem to like fans of Trek. Okay, before the
Trek fans on the list flame me for that, I am a Trek fan myself,
I just think Ger is a heckuva lot better actor.

Nick would have worn chain mail, because when he was mortal plate armor
hadn't been invented yet.

For info on period clothing might I suggest you go to www.costumes.org
which is a website created by the costume dept at the Univ of Alaska at
Fairbanks. There are photos as well as info for every period of history as
well as links to other sites for info and how-to's, so you can make your
very own FK costume. I have tons of books on period clothing yet I still
find this site invaluable. I also like her section on "Dumpster Diver
Decor". Maybe Screed could use it?

I've seen both the jacket and the dogtags for LC in the episode, as Nigel
auctioned both at cons for charity. The time was definitely the US Viet Nam
War. The jacket has the name of a bomber unit and the slogan "Fly with the
Best, Die with the Rest" on it. The dogtags listed LC's religion as
Rosicrucian.

Subject: Blitz for the Knight Day 13

It's day 13 of the Feedback Blitz!! Go ahead and e-mail the two powers that
be below asking for what you desire in the Knight (you can also re-use your
letters for this 2 week blitz)...

1. Sci-fi: feedback@w.......

2. Tristar/Sony: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

..................................................
Forget what the blitz is about? Read below:

It looks like these blitzes we have been doing are getting some attention!
So we at KtK, are going to turn them into a monthly routine. This month we
are focusing on the two main powers, Tristar and Sci-fi.

Its going to be a double dose of e-mails from each of you the fans that
would love to not only have FK back on Sci-fi's schedule, but want to make
sure everyone knows that we are want more FK with the original cast in new
episodes and or movies!! So, what do you say? Are you ready to sit down,
take that few minutes and send off two e-mails? It could make all the
difference in the world!

Remember, say a little or say a lot, but say it!! We can make more FK
happen!!!

June 12th, through June 24th, we are asking everyone to blitz both
feedbacks!!! For the two weeks, you can re-use the e-mails you did before,
or write new ones. They can be long, or as short as just saying, "Bring Back
Forever Knight."

ALSO REMEMBER!! Sci-fi will be changing its schedule around in June, and
again in the fall.... lets make sure that we get Forever Knight on!!!

Sci-Fi's E-mail: feedback@w.......

Sony/Tristar Mail Form: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

When e-mailing TriStar,(especially) give as much personal info as you
can...rather than just an e-mail name. A bit more personal carries more
weight with TPTB.

I also made a button/banner for the upcoming blitzing, which you can use to
help spread the word, by putting this on your site (you can get off my save
fk page).
