The "Dead Line" is May 28th, so please send in your names before then. If you have already signed the monthly petition then you don't need to send me anything. I have already transferred over those names. If you're new and have not yet signed then I will add you to both petitions. To sign E-mail me: kris1228@s....... with your name/state/country. There's also a NEW banner you can post on your web sites to help spread the word. See page for details. Long Live the Knight! Thurston's contract has expired and general speculation was he would re-up. Thurston's comments: "As I look at the television business, the communications business, there are all sorts of opportunities out there and challenges, and that's what I am looking for." Speculation for Thurston's replacement - Steve Mosko, who's name was also rumored to be on the short list for the president job at 20th. I was visiting the BBC America online shop and recognized a bottle of ribena concentrate (I have two bottles a friend brought me from England) pictured in their banner at the top of the page. So I did a search for it and they do sell it. Their price is $15 per bottle. So if you're interested in getting ribena concentrate, this is an easy way to get it via mail order. Check it out at: http://shop.bbcamerica.com/ukgoods/ and use the "Find" feature to bring it up (type in ribena). Now that's what I call dedication. But does it say whether it's Type O (ordinary Ribena), Type A (Ribena Lite), Type B (Ribena Toothkind) or Type AB (No added sugar)? All FK-viewing in my house is accompanied by the drinking of Ribena. <g> Tracy Tracy.Gooding@n....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 10:44:53 -0700 From: Aron Michael <trespasser@w.......> Subject: Re: Tech question On Mon, 08 May 2000, Knightraven wrote: ===== Would you think vampires change with the times as quickly as they perhaps should? I mean, ten years is nothing to them but in that time computers are now in every home etc. Or do you think they may take on the air of, why bother, it will pass. We saw LC with his laptop, but we never saw Nick with a PC... Theories? ===== I think it depends on the vampire. LaCroix always (IMO) seemed to be paying close attention to what humanity was doing, politics etc. I think that after 2000 years, watching societies rise + fall, he knows the importance of identifying the next world power. He probably recognized computers as the next big thing. Actually, an old immortal like LC probably has a better idea of where we're going with this technology than we do, or at least have a better idea of the dangers. I mean, we think computers are great, the internet, easy work, easy communication.... But we're not going to have to live with the consequences 150 or 500 years from now. (except for me: I'm going to live forever <g>) You don't get to be 2000 without being able to adapt. Hmmm... I wonder how long until technology, DNA or whatever, makes it impossible for vampires to keep on living in secret? The Enforcers are fooling themselves to think they're going to keep the secret forever. But back to the original topic. Humans as a whole really don't know where we're going. We said there would be a world market of maybe five computers, and I don't think the "billion" was just accidently left off. We said television was just a fad that would pass. And then sound tv. And then colour TV. Maybe we just can't imagine the world any other way than how it is? It takes a, what's the term, removed observer to see what's going on. The ancients are laughing at us. But because we don't know where we're going we don't know what we're doing. If Microsoft dies we're going to have compatibility problems all over cyberspace. Users are going to be segregated into whatever ISP or browser or replacment for windows they use. Look at AOL, then think of five or ten of those. Yes, the internet is great, I am it's (almost) biggest fan, but it has a few design flaws. (not that I could ever do better) Look what happens everytime a virus comes out. Humanity has diffuculty seeing long term. And what we do see, shown in sci-fi, of the not so distant future is dismissed as depressing. Some vampires (IMO) believe that it's their world, we're just living in it. They've got it backwards. LaCroix, and maybe some of the other ancients, realize that. I said that it depends on the vampire. Nick, I think, sees technology with an attitude of "It's there, so what?" Aristrole uses computers because they make his job easier, although he's probably got money invested in Microsoft from day ten. Vachon doesn't give it a second thought... similar to Janette, but she's maybe a little more familiar on account of her buisiness. I'm sure she hires someone else to do her accounting though. And explain where the "house special" comes from. I can picture Urs being amazed, like a kid at a magic show. I don't really know anyone else enough to guess, Bet I bet there's some out there who are screaming witchcraft and magic and don't really believe in technology at all! The site doesn't list bottle size, but this is the very concentrated black currant juice that should be diluted quite a bit, just like our favorite vamps had to choke down undiluted on the set of FK. They should include this in their advertising...I can see it now..."You too can be like Geraint Wyn Davies! Buy our ribena and experience the gut-wrenching sweetness!" BBC America's is the same brand is what my friend brought me back from the UK. My bottles are wine-bottle sized, 750 ml I think, and if I remember correctly my friend paid about £8 for them a couple of years ago. Probably best to email BBC America to check the bottle size before buying.
