Oh, thank you *so* much for that descent into dark alleydom. ;)

Nancy, I think it would be safer if you stuck to things like:

o Flaming Stake Elbow (from hurtling flaming stakes)
o Wind Burns (from flying at...? [whatever max speed our techno listers
finally came up with]... to get away from LC.)
o Semi-Permanent Bad Hair Day (if using Vachon for above scenario when
fleeing the Inca or Tracy during a bad PMS episode. You can't use this with
LC or screed for obvious reasons. ie. nothing 'semi' about their follical
problems...)
o Heaver's Hernia (aren't nutritional shakes a real pill?)
o Stuck Fangs (Ms. S. Clark can give you technical info on this condition.)

Evilly Grinned, >:)=

Yep, Gene Hackman being the star of the movie, he had to win. I like to
think that in real life, Nigel would have won, or, at least, LaCroix would
have won.

Wait a minute. That's not real life, is it? Oh, well, I get confused
sometimes. <G>

Subject: Fwd: The Point System and Positions

This is a reply I received from Global 100 about what determines the
positions. Please read carefully...
---------------------------------------------------------
I understand that this is confusing. Our algorithms look at the reliability
of every vote. We have given ourselves a goal to make charts that give a
good perspective of what the most popular products are. This means that we
try to raise the quality of the raw data with the algorithms. For example by
attach different gravity to the collected votes. We do our best to do this
as honest as possible. Our most important goal is that we want quality of
the results that we publish, and not quantity of the data that we receive.

With each item we will check if the votes are coming from groups who are
over representing. We check the age, gender, IP address, referring web sites
and countries. For example: when a big fan club make sure that all titles
from one artist will enter the Top 10, it is only a nice performance for
that fan club. But other visitors from our site don't benefit from the fact
that the Top 10 isn't representative for our participants. This means that
other voters quit voting and the dominant group becomes more dominant.
Therefore we will take care that all votes that we will receive has a
positive effect on the charts, but we also make it difficult for every group
to have a dominant impact on the results.
It is never a fact that more votes for on item brings the final position
down. More is always better. We only make sure that there is not a linear
connection. For example: If the points for title X rise from 100 to 1000
points, than this is by definition good for his position in the chart. But
if the 900 extra points all came from the same fan site, the rise is not so
big. When the 900 extra points all came from different sites, the rise was
much bigger. Therefore it is possible that title X with les votes is higher
on the chart than title Y who's got more votes. It looks like title Y is
being punished, but that's not right. It is just that a lot of votes from
title Y where coming from one group that were over representing. The votes
from title X came from different participators. The rise for title X is
therefore much bigger than the rise for title Y.
We put a bigger weight on data that comes from participators how has a
bigger change on being a unique individual. We do this by a system of
different levels for all voters. With a high level the data is more
reliable. Therefore the votes form a high-level voter weight higher in our
calculations. It is important that everybody can get a high level. We don't
discriminate anyone. We only want to stimulated everybody to increase the
reliability of there votes, because that's make the results for everybody
more interesting.

We are working on some pages where we will explain how the algorithms work.
I hope this will be on our web site soon.

Thanks for your support!!!

I looked under your help section and still was unable to find what I needed
to know, so I'll ask this way. How are the finalized points determined that
give a show its position on the chart both unofficially and officially? I
ask because I see shows ahead that barely get any voters and have less raw
votes, but still manage to stay ahead. How? For example Forever Knight is
one step behind behind Angel. I see that Forever Knight has had a lot more
voters daily and more raw votes, almost twice as many, and Angel has only a
few votes a day and sometimes not even every day. What's higher is its
finalized points. How come? What determines this? I thought a show's
position would be determined by its number of votes and voters giving it a
full 5 points.

Thank you!
Kristin

Posted with McLisa's permission

One of our listmembers {and GWDFC members}, Susan Pierce, is in
Presbyterian Hospital here in Dallas. Her hubby, Barry, emailed
me to let me know she was having serious neurological problems.

Note: I posted this notice on the UF list, too, and learned that there
are two Susan Pierces in FK Fandom. I'm talking about the Susan who
lives in Richardson, Texas, NOT in Arkansas. Susan's nickname is the same
as my middle name:  Swan.  {What are the odds of that, anyway?}
She was at Ger5, wearing a FK cap with "Swan" embroidered on the back.

Susan's doctors think she's having strokes. {She's only 40! Shouldn't
this be illegal or something?} She began losing motor control and
sensation last week, and she's having a terrible time. Since she
was already dealing with RSD, a neurological disease that causes
intense, chronic pain, she's getting a double whammy here.

I went to visit her yesterday, and she's suffering so much that I just
sat in my car and cried when I left the hospital - and it takes a
LOT to make me cry.

It's bad enough to be hospitalized at all, but she's been incarcerated
there since last Saturday. That, along with the stroke business, has
made her one depressed kiddo.

I know it would really lift her spirits to hear from some of our
listmembers. You can send messages to my email, angels2@f......., and
I'll print them out and take them to her in the hospital.

Thanks,

Sami
