Sorry, this has been asked by too many people to send privates to each
one.

If you want to be on a loop so bad, start your own. It's that easy! Find
some people you find really interesting and kindred spirits and write to
them with a topic discussion. They might not respond, or they may ask to
be taken off of the loop, but you will probably find a few friends to talk
to.

The only chat loop I know of is the Vaqueras, and I'm not one, so I'm not
on. Oh, and there's SKL which you can join by asking a member (I think).

I don't have time for loops, and *do not* want to be on any (so don't ask,
please!).

But, please, if you just want to discuss the show... Do it on Forkni!
That's why we're here...

Hello Everybody,

Thank you Toni S. for the intro and "bringing me over".
It feels like it was just yesterday when I told you about a late night
TV series called "Forever Knight", and I knew you would be hooked like I
was (err...make that am).

I'm still learning the rules so I'll lurk a little longer and contribute

As a part of my FK site, I'd like to put together a page listing FK-related
faqs so that we (and others) can all find them in one place. Faqs are
are a good tool for drawing in fans and making them aware of our online
and offline presence and activities.

Thus, if you currently maintain or keep track of a faq, and/or know where
any FK related faqs can be obtained or are located online, could you
email me privately and let me know?

Here's the names of a few faqs I can think of I'd like to be sure to include:

the FK faq, currently being updated by Steve Fellows (?)
the factions faq, affiliations faq, faction faqs, SOS-related faqs, etc.

I know there's probably more, so please write me offline and let me
know.

Thanks,

The one about the vampire hunter I think you are talking about, is actually
called "Bad Blood" This one stars Cath's ex? current? Cedric Smith who
plays Liam O'Neill, an Irish detective who was bitten by a vampire as a
child and when he was only partially drained, he developed special powers
which allowed him to sense vampires, and since he become a hunter, all the
vamps wanted the enforcers on him.

Hunted, Second season, is the one with the woman that hunts people for
sport. It has the flashback with Janette and LC and Nick hunting a man
shooting deer in the woods. The hunters hunting the hunter. Say that five
times fast! :)

Hunters, is from First season. Someone wants Schanke dead, and Nick has to
hide him in the Raven. This has the infamous, "fetishes" line from Janette.
Schank starts snooping around and he finds a coffin. Janette catches him
and says "We cater to guests with certain....fetishes."

If I got them mixed up, somebody tell me.

Subject: Nick and Horses

Someone remarked on the flashback scene in LNMTA, where the carriage
horses are apparently spooked by Nick. I was willing to accept this at
the time (even though I'd seen BF and knew that dogs had no apparent
problem with vampires) but I have now seen "Hunters," the first-season
episode where our three vamps are hunted in the flashbacks, while Schanke
is hunted in the present (Yes, "Hunted" is the name of the second-season
one. I know it should be the other way around; take it up with TPTB <g>).

In "Hunters," all three of our vamps ride horses, and do so without any
apparent trouble (side note: interesting that LC was willing to abandon
Janette!). Naturally, horses were the best way to get around for most of
their lives, and not being able to deal with horses would have been a
serious -- and conspicuous -- disadvantage.

Therefore, I have concluded that the horses in LNMTA were not spooked by
Nick. Something else bothered them. The doctor, grief stricken and
desperate, accused Nick. Nick, guilt-ridden, accepted that accusation.
Logically, however, they were both mistaken.

I wasn't on fkspoilr when LNMTA first aired; is this the conclusion
[rationalization] the list reached?

Tippi suggested that the dream sequences in DFF were daydreams, rather
than "real" dreams. However, at least one of the later sequences (and the
weird opener?) ends in Nick waking up and getting out of bed. I'm pretty
sure it was the "Woodstock" sequence, because I kept rewinding it to
reassure myself it wasn't real.

<g> (Does LC make you laugh, or cringe, in that sequence? Is the
difference that between a Knightie and a Cousin?) (And did anybody
speculate on the significance of the fact that the cell in the prison
sequence is the same set used for the precinct?)

However, I think that the symbolism was too advanced for those visions to
be the product of Nick's conscious mind. He's not *that* self-absorbed.
If they were not dream sequences in the traditional, "he's asleep" sense,
then I would prefer to think of them as direct glimpses into, or
translations of, Nick's unconscious.

Of course, the idea that Nick's unconscious is best translated as a bank
of TVs in a store window speaks again to the profound adaptability of
successful vampires.

Subject: FK as a Cartoon

It will not happen. But if it did, would I like it?

Unlike most who have given their opinions, I could actually see potential
in an animated incarnation of FK. Obviously, it is *VERY* far down my
list of things I'd like to see (somewhere below a fourth season,
big-screen movie, TV movie, tapes for sale, the novels, etc.) but despite
the instinctive American dismissal of any and all things animated, it
could be done very well. As has been noted, it's the ultimate in special
effects. And as may have been noted, animation is as intelligent and
sophisticated as the people it is made by and for.

Cartoons do not have to be for children. Yes, I'm thinking of Japanese
anime, but I'm also thinking of the original Hanna-Barbera _Fantastic
Four_, of all things. They produced a show with absolute fidelity to the
Lee/Kirby originals. I'm not saying that it was anything approaching the
complexity and intensity of FK, just that fidelity is possible. I know
that the Trek cartoon is widely derided, but it is taken canonically in
all the official chronologies I've seen. The HL cartoon is clearly meant
for children, but with that in mind it can be admired for cleverly
adapting the obviously unacceptable violence of chopping off heads.

If the correct [original] voices could be employed, the biggest problem
might be the visual darkness of FK. _Gargoyles_ has dealt with that
amazingly well, but the tendency of the paints is still toward bright and
primary colors. But if a highly stylized look (ex. _Phantom 2040_) could
be created, it would be easy to accept the transmutation of the FK world.

I'm taking this a tad seriously, aren't I? :-) I spent three years at
an impressionable age getting up at 5 am on Sundays to watch _Robotech_, so
it's only to be expected. :-) Let me turn silly:

If FK were to become a cartoon, of the sort where the characters *always*
wear the same outfits, what would our characters wear? :-) I vote for
dressing Janette in her red dress with the gold clasp-straps; Nat in a
blouse, skirt, and lab coat; Nick in black slacks, his magenta shirt,
black vest, and first-season coat; LC in second-season black, with sword
pin; Schanke... wait a minute; didn't Schanke always wear the same outfit,
anyway? :-)

Just for fun I thought I'd take a writing class this summer (I'm a little
twisted that way). It's essentially a workshop; you bring in something you've
written and fifteen graduate students tear it apart . . . in the most
compassionate way, of course.

Just for fun, I presented a piece of Nightcrawler story I'm working on. I put
a character disclaimer in a footer ("X, Y, and Z belong to . . . "), and brief
character descriptions at the beginning so that people wouldn't feel
completely lost, but I neglected to say anywhere on the page that the piece
was based on FK.

One guy read the character list and practically shouted, "Hey! I love this
show!"

He didn't know it had been cancelled. He didn't know about the lists. He
didn't know about the web pages.

He does now! ; )

Seeing this thread reminded me of my Very Favorite Thing about the ep Queen
of Harps: watching Nick gallop his horse across the field to check out the
music. When I saw Hunters, I couldn't tell if the galloping/chase scenes
had stunt riders or not, but there's no question in QoH--that's GWD for
sure, and omigod does that man have a good seat and good hands (think

Subject: Ex-Post Shrewthering Post and acting

Will Steeves wrote a complete and unabridged "Thank you for the
Shrewthering". I'd like to second his "Thanks" to all who made
the Shrewthering such a phenomenal experience...And to include Will
in my "Thank you's"...If anyone ever doubted there could be anyone
else in the world with the energy and enthusiasm of Ger, they need
only meet Will to have their doubts dispelled! The tour he gave
proved to be most enjoyable, as well. (And yes, there were plenty
of opportunities to try out the phrase "eating a yellow light" <g>...
Though that phrase isn't a Philadelpianism; I first learned it when
visiting a friend in Florida...)

Just to set the record straight...The Mary Celeste in question wasn't
my car; it was Bea Quindlen's. (Anyone interested in the misadventures
our carpool had in getting to Toronto should check out Allison
Percy's Shrewthering web page.)

And speaking of Allison, she asked whether we thought Nick (not Ger)
could act in a comedy. I would have to say a resounding, "Yes!" to
that. First, many real life comedians have/had serious bouts with
depression. To take my favourite singer/dancer/comedian as an example,
Danny Kaye was decidedly manic-depressive. So the fact that Nick
angsts and is depressed so much would not in itself preclude him
from being a good comic actor.

The other point that I've actually meant to bring up on list for
a while now was just what a fantastic actor Nick is. (And yes, I
mean Nick here, not Ger...Although he is outstanding as well)...
Any vampire who could survive pretty much undetected for eight
centuries would have to be. Consider how well he always could evade
probing questions, and deflect (or pre-empt) anyone's suspicions.
(Yes, there was Close Call; but other than that...). Imagine if you
had a deep, dark secret which, if others found out about it, might
well mean your death (either real or feigned), or their death (at the
hands of the Enforcers). Now image if people started talking about
things close to your secret (e.g., Stranger Than Fiction, Games
Vampires Play)...Think about what acting skill, what control and
delivery, you would have to have to have to avoid suspicions. Nick
always managed to strike just the right note to do so. This showed
not only that he had incredible control, but also that he could think
quickly and under pressure...Surely these two skills are at least as
important (if not more so) when playing comedy than when playing
tragedy.

Now the thing I just can not imagine is *LC* ever being in a comedy.
Can anyone see him on the receiving end of a cream pie in a slapstick?
Me either.

Which brings up a question for thought: If the FK characters could choose
to act in any play or a TV show, what role do you think they would choose
to perform? What role do you think they would be best as?

My thoughts, off the top of my head:

Nick: Cyrano de Bergerac, Hamlet, or Pippin
LC: Iago
Janette: What's-her-name (Jessica, was it?) in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Natalie: Ophelia
Vachon: ?
Tracy: Little Orphan Annie (OK, she's a little old for it, but that doesn't
mean she wouldn't want to play the role).
Schanke: Fonzie
Cohen: Lady Macbeth
Reese: ?
Screed: the lead in A Clockwork Orange (of course!)
Urs: Anything played by Marilyn Monroe

Happy playing! cheers, Lynn messing@a.......

I can not an Airplane or Spy hard type movie. But LC has always had a
snide dark comic side to him. C&C and in even Dying for Fame, as he is
torchering Nick.

I can see him is a Parenthood, LA story type movie were the humor is not
off the wall but is still present.

Ack, they need to repeat the last two ep's soon.

Warning. Warning. Librarian humor ahead.

You know you've been watching too much Forever Knight when you see a
subject heading on an EXLIBRIS message that says "Canadian Incunabulae" and
you wonder if Nick qualifies.

Man, this is something that I just loved. But, what about that dismount
when he got to the stone hand? I think you can tell a true rider form
someone who hasn't rode much or well by how they dismount. I did a fair
amount of riding in my younger days, and I can tell you that to jump to
the ground like that takes some awareness of how sturdy your horse is
and a trust, not fear, of the animal. The horse was well trained, of
course, but that wouldn't make an actor any more trusting.

Why wouldn't a PK (preacher's kid) have access to and learn to love
horses? It makes a lot of sense to me. I have attended churches who's
pastors must work at another job just to make ends meet. Being a
preacher isn't exactly lucrative. While I lived in Nevada, the pastor my
church there farmed. Lots of animals. Made sense, the people he preached
too were by and large farmers as well.

ROTFL!! You're not saying that this show in anyway dates us are you? I
loved Bonanza, the original run, not the 'Lost Episodes' that were shown
after Pernell Roberts defected. Adam was my favorite character. Talk
about deadpan delivery. I loved his wicked humor, just loved it. Can you
sing the Ponderosa song? Man, I know I'm really putting by neck on the
block, but I can. Hell, I can even sing the theme to Gigantor, now I
know there are young ones on the list that have never seen that cartoon
and haven't got a klew as to what I mean. That really dates you,
cartoons that are so old no one (under a certain age) has seen them.

Got to love those early cartoons, though. Remember Astroboy, feet that
turned into rockets, chewing bubble gum allowed him to breathe
underwater? Hey, wait a cotton-pickin' minute. THAT'S how Nick got off
the Titanic! He had some of Astroboy's bubble gum. KEWL!

(And I bet you all were wondering how I was going to relate old Japanese
cartoons to FK, ha!)

I don't see how a cartoon could capture the subtle facial expressions of the
FK characters that are so important to the show.

Went to give blood today (3rd time since SOS-FK got started). My nurse, Kitty,
turned out to be a fan of the show who "came across it one night.." <wg>
She isn't quite as ... persistant ... as some of us, so didn't know what
time the show aired. SINCE I had a FK flyer on me, I gave it to her. Plus,
gave the Central Florida Blood Bank, Longwood Branch, a copy of the FK audio
cassette. Kitty's gonna take it home and listen to it while she writes a
letter to a few of TPTB. Plus, I'm going to bring across my best friend
today - or at least give it a heck of a shot. Wish me luck! Cyndi
(Who WILL learn to do a sig this week-end, promise!)

P>S> - Thanks to all who made going to the Shrewthering such a wonderful
experience. I echo everything everyone else has said. And special thanks
to Marcia Tucker, member of the Broken Black Sword Knighties <g> and all
around wonderful person, even if she is a Dark Knightie <g> And a
very talented writer!
