I'm not telling you not to start your loop if you want to, but is it really necessary to have that kind of discussion off the main lists? The Nick-LaCroix relationship is so crucial to Forever Knight, that can't most of the discussion about it take place on the lists as a whole? That is, unless you really want to concentrate on the tormenting stuff and think most people wouldn't be interested. And even if you think people wouldn't be interested, you could be wrong. For instance, I enjoy reading Amy's posts about Light Cousins and Fleur Booster whether or not I see things exactly her way. I enjoy reading another point of view. It's stimulating and adds to my own view of things. >For instance, LC & Nick have been together for almost 800 years exclusively >as a family with Janette ...it must have been something terrible that Nick >noticed LC doing that made him pull away. Katja posted a reply to this that gave another point of view about it. With an e-mail loop, you lose the point of view of other people who might be able to cast more light on exactly what you're wondering about. >I think we will name it *Cousins of the Knight*. I do think this was a very clever name, and if you seriously want to concentrate on the tormenting aspect of things, it makes perfect sense. But I still don't think it's what I'm looking for. Even though the relationship between LaCroix and Nick is unequal, as parent-child relationships typically are, I'm looking for a name that treats them more as equals, so that we maintain respect for both of them. Also, I think that as Nick gets older, the relationship becomes slightly more equal. Again, that's typical of parent-child relationships. It doesn't necessarily become equal in a straight line, but that's the trend. Someone had a really good post, about the relationship being both a parent- child and a friendship relationship, sometimes loving, but with all the strains that naturally occur in those kinds of relationships. (The person said it a whole lot better than I'm saying it here.) I would like a faction that sees the Nick-LaCroix relationship in that way. Some people already have myriad faction/fraction names in their sigs. Is it just a desire to have *all* your interests labelled? Like Margie Hammet, I wonder where all the discussion will go on this list if there are all these "private loops" set up. It seems that lately a lot of the only discussion on this list is discussion about the latest up and coming faction/fraction. Don't get me wrong; if people want to form interest groups of their own, then fine. I just would hope that such activity wouldn't mean that discussion of the show would trickle away on this list as a result. I've loved Nick from the beginning, hence the "forever Knightie" in my sig. I appreciate what the other characters (present and past) have brought to the show, but I haven't felt any need to embrace any other faction/fraction. Cynthia wrote: > It's a nice, sweet, loving friendship kind of >thing ... with a healthy dose of hormones. At times, I think this is true. From the very beginning of the series there was a sense of this kind of attraction. It's MHO that eps like BMV and NiQ move the relationship well beyond that level. No, Nick doesn't come right out and say "I love you." As much as I would like to have heard him do so, it isn't necessary for me to believe that he DOES love her. I'm no expert (is there such as thing as a 'love' expert?), but, I find the clues for how they feel for each other in many ways. In DBTLOFM, Nick drops off a gift for Nat (the first gesture we see in the series) and when Schanke calls him on it he says, "We're just friends." Schankes reaction was priceless, it was the 'Yeah, Right! NOT!' reaction most such proclamations bring. Towards the end of the first season we get OTL. Nick is jealous! Not just overprotective. Jealous, in a sexual kind of way. Natalie obviously wants more from their relationship, the things she says in response to her flashbacks are proof enough for me. By the second season and BMV, we know that Nick thinks he knows what women want "A man who's not afraid to show their love for them." He sets about doing just that long BEFORE he remembers there is a danger to Nat from LaCroix. He loves Nat. He needs Nat. I'm not convinced he is able to emotional separate the two or that he should. As fiction goes, this is pretty good stuff (hence this current discussion). By the third season and NiQ, the love and caring he has for Nat is so deeply ingrained in him that even without his memory he knows that there is something 'very special' between them. Nick loves Nat. Nat loves Nick. Angst exists, fear exists, danger exists for them in the relationship. Again, great fiction and dramatic devices. Just MHO. In my fiction, as has always been the case, they will love each other. :)= Carrie, Slovenly Knightie AKA Carrie the Cruel CKrumtum@g....... I can't tell if Sandra thinks I'm trying to set up a private loop, or if she's saying she agrees with me about the dangers of having all these private loops. I want people to have some sense, at least, of where I'm coming from in some of my posts, especially when they relate to those major interests. Most people put at least an individual character's name in their signature. I don't do that, because although I like Nick, Nat, and LaCroix all very much, I am not a "follower" of any of them, and I like the relationships in Forever Knight even more than any individual character. There already is a faction for one of the relationships that I especially like, the N&NPackers. There's a couples faction for Nick and LaCroix, called the Unnamed Faction. When Tippi asked about a couples faction for Nick and LaCroix, she literally meant a couples faction, implying an erotic relationship (although she's not trying to say that eroticism is the only aspect of the relationship, of course). I misunderstood what she meant at the time, but she has made it clear now. I think that LaCroix loves Nick, although not in an erotic way, and that Nick loves LaCroix, at least some of the time, and again, not in an erotic way. There is no faction that expresses that. I would like there to be one. I do not at all want a private e-mail loop associated with such a faction, unless it's for something like deciding on an affiliation pin, if such a faction should get started. I want any discussion to stay on the list, where everyone who is interested can join in, whether they are in the faction or not. Does that clear it up? Margie (treeleaf@i.......)
