First, my campaign with the local FOX affiliate that airs FK. Last week, I faxed them a letter letting them know the distress our FK is in. [I spoke briefly with one of the associates in the programing dept. and she wasn't even aware of the situation. She informed me that this was left up to the Sales dept. Hence, my decision to fax her the "facts".] Now, 3 days after I sent my fax, the time slot of FK changed from Sunday morning at 1 am to Saturday night at 10 pm AND according to the "blurb" about a half hour prior to the showing, it said, "Now at its new time slot." MMM, coincidence ? Maybe, but why this sudden change? Prior to my fax, there was no mention about moving FK. [Normally, our station will do a campaign letting everyone know that if a show is moving, what the new day & time will be. This will go one for a week.] This morning I faxed again, the station letting them know that their decision to move FK to a more desirable time slot was deeply appreciated. IF [and this is a big IF here] we don't get a 4th season, I don't think it's going to be because we didn't try enough or the local stations weren't interested. So, keep plugging away and don't give up the ghost. Next, for those of you who are heading here for NAPTE, just thought I'd let you know about the weather. According to the local weather person last night [1/21 @ 11 pm] we are to have RAIN for the next 3 days. [Mon/Tues/Wed.] and the high's will only be in the mid 40's. SO, bring your umbrellas & sweaters as usually with the winter rains comes winds out of the North/North-West and it does it ~COLD~. For Thurs/Fri we're suppose to be back in the mid-60's. For those who will be here driving, PLEASE be careful in the rain as the roads get very slick & the drivers here DON'T slow down. Well, that's it for now. Keep plugging along and SAVE THE KNIGHT!!!! Back into the darkness I shall go! Linda {a Forever Knightie} {Linda.Edwards@r.......} ... This is the first time for this con, so she doesn't anticipate that it will be large, but she is using it as a feeler for a bigger con in following years. Eventually they want it to run 2 days and have more events. She's evidently been involved in doing something similar where there were too many people, not enough control, and things got out of hand, including damage to the hotel where it was running. Therefore she's being cautious about size and expanding too quickly. However, I noted that I got the last flyer for it at the BookStop I went into, therefore a lot of people picked them up there. She and others have left them all over, so she may end up with a bigger gathering than she anticipates. There will be films (classics from 1959-1972 era), a room with panels (starting at ll:00 a.m.) with discussions and questions and answers, and a dealers area. Sandwiches will be catered in after 7:00 p.m. for those who want to watch films in the evening. Pat Elrod, the writer of vampire books, will be there, and a couple of people who did a fanzine for Twin Peaks, and some other local horror writers. Carol wanted to know if *anyone* knows someone involved with special effects whom she might be able to contact about attending as a speaker? She gave me Pat Elrod's phone number so I can give her a call and see if she knows what's going on with FK. Also gave me the number of Theresa Patterson at Pegasus (both are local). She said we are welcome to bring all the flyers we want and we can pass them out and talk to people. Cool. Again, for folks in the D/FW area, let me know if you'd like to gather for this one. And let other people know about it. The more who attend, the better it will be and that will encourage an even larger con next year. Also, the more of us that pass through, the more we can discuss FK! For the benefit of the new listmembers among us who may not know: There are three FK lists: forkni-l, for general chat, discussion of old episodes (ie, eps that have been rerun), and SOS matter; fkspoilr, for discussion of current episodes, and fkfic, for the posting of FK fan fiction. to subscribe to fkspoilr: send message to listserv@p....... leave subject line blank or put in * as text, write: SUBSCRIBE FKSPOILR YOUR NAME (or whatever your name is) the same process applies to fkfic-l, except your text message would read: SUBSCRIBE FKFIC-L YOUR NAME Hope that helps! Remember, no "e" in listserv, no "e" in fkspoilr, and no "-l" in fkspoilr. Couple more points: all discussion of new episodes should be confined to fkspoilr. When you are posting a spoiler on fkspoilr, you should include SPOILER and the name of the episode in your subject line (some peoples' mailers don't indicate what list a post came from, and some people don't want to be *spoiled* before they have seen an episode). Fkfic is for fiction ONLY. Comments on fiction should be made to forkni-l, unless they relate to new episodes, in which case they should go to fkspoilr. Also a general point regarding all lists: when quoting someone else's post, please try to use no more than four lines of text at a time. Edit, snip, whatever you have to to stay within the limit. Some members of the list have to pay for their e-mail by the line, and it's a courtesy to them. For the same reason, sig files should be limited to no more than four lines. It's the next day and I'm still recovering from the whirlwind known as the "Knight Watch" Monday night chat on FK over at AOL. Everyone talks at once. Someone says something like "Ger shirtless" and you can actually watch as it spreads like wildfire through the room. Within seconds it seems that people believe Ger is actually supposed to appear shirtless in some upcoming episode, when in fact it all started as wishful thinking on the part of one Knightie somewhere in the virtual "room." Yikes. Anyway, TVV Marci (Marcia Tucker) hosted it and did a nice job of managing the chaos. She'll probably post a summary and let people know where to download the logs. Watch out, though, there are spoilers for "Fever" in those logs! (No spoilers in *this* post, though.) Gillian Horvath (script writer for several FK eps) showed up! It was terrific. Amidst the chaos we managed to get some information out of her. She mentioned a couple of scenes that were filmed for "Fever" but cut. She has just finished writing another episode which will be the second-to-last of the season. Thanks to Marci for hosting. Had a lot of fun and used up another 1 hour 8 minutes of my 10 free hours. This is a very confusing response from this station. First, FK is a *syndicated* show in non-USA network markets. NBC should have nothing to do with broadcasting it to their affiliates. FK goes out on a satellite feed on Monday (or early Tuesday?) for the individual stations that carry it to record for showing at the time that station has decided for showing it. The *only* reason this station may have had for not showing the episode would be that it was required by its affiliation with NBC to carry the pageant in FK's normal time slot. This type of assumption that any network other than USA has control over FK is spreading misinformation, imo. Affiliates of any network (whether it be ABC, NBC, CBS, UPN, FOX) are obligated to carry certain of the network's programming. But each station also has some "free" time to air programs of their choosing (like FK). The problem comes up when a network runs programming that will cut into a station's "free" time. When this happens, sometimes a station will not air the originally scheduled programming (FK) at another time because it usually means some *other* program the station wants to run has to be bumped. Complaints to NBC I wouldn't think would help in this case. I suspect those viewers of FK in this market won't see Fever unless it is repeated in syndication on the satellite feed (if it is, and if NBC doesn't want the station to air some NBC programming in FK's normal time slot again). It's possible the station could show it earlier if they got enough complaints about the preempting *to the station* (not NBC). Just my opinions here (if I'm wrong about any of it, I'm sure someone will say so :) ). --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 13:40:32 -0500 From: Tammy Stephanie Davis <tsd@u.......> Subject: Reply from WJBK-TV2 Got the following letter back (finally) from WJBK-TV2, which is where Forever Knight is shown in the Detroit area: Thank you for your recent correspondence. How can i get involved with the"save the Forever Knight" thing that I'v seen? I would also like to know if anyone can tell me about some of the history of some vampires on that had been on the show, like the group called (i think) the "Enforcers" or something on that line. And where is La Croix? someone told me nick killed him, can someone clear that up for me. That's about all for now, btw i am a newbie for this sort of thing so for the first couple of days-weeks don't come down on me hard if i make a mistake or two, hopefully i'll get the hang of things soon :) Jason ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 11:33:51 -0500 From: Dotti Rhodes <EJRhodes@a.......> Subject: Talking to the Syndies... Hey Gang - I talked to Channel 12 here in R.I., the one that shows FK on Saturday Mornings at the ungodly hour of 1:35 a.m.(after Xena) but at least they're running it. I told them how happy I was that they were continuing to run it since USA was no longer doing so and that I had watched on their channel anyway since I don't currently have cable. The woman I spoke to laughed and said, "I have got to log this in and give it to the Program Manager, because I've gotten a lot of calls about Forever Knight. Thank you for calling!!" Well, I feel good now. I've sent my letters, email, money, what's next - I'm in!! By the by, I am on the JADFE mailing list for ADULT FK stores (steam pouring from ears) and there have been two stories (Physical Therapy and What Love Endures) that are fabulous, fabulous stories. They are not for the faint at hear (graphcally erotic) but what's good about these stories is that they are good Nick really Loves Nat and Nat Really Loves Nick stories that happen to have some erotica in them. That to me is what makes a really good "naughty" story. There has to be a real story in there - not just the naughty bits. If anyone (who is not faint of heart and over 18) is interested, Email me privately and I'll give you the dope on how to get them. They are seriously worth it. At least on their Toronto station at any rate. Last night, after the broadcast of the show, they made an announcement to say the show wouldn't be shown on its usual day next week, but >would< be shown on Wednesday instead. They very rarely make those kinds of announcements unless it's some wildly popular (read, lots of publicity) show like ER, where they >know< they're going to hear from their viewers if they pre-empt it! So for them to do that for FK is really pretty spectactular!! BTW, did anyone else run into this problem? Anna and I were going to go up to CFTO (local CTV station) last week to present their programmer with some flowers and a certificate we'd made up, in honour of Syndicators Appreciation Day. But we were told they can't accept any "gifts", including flowers. I mailed the certificate to her anyways, though! If she returns it, that's up to her (she's at NATPE this week, so it won't be till next week), but I wanted to make the gesture anyways, and so even if she returns it she'll still have looked at it and hopefully absorbed the message (I thanked her for showing FK, for showing it consistently every week, for showing it in prime time, and for publicizing it). I talked to her secretary last week and had a very nice conversation with her. She said they'd gotten many, many letters, phone calls and faxes about the show, and her boss definitely knew she HAD TO ASK for FK at NATPE (and it sounded like she was going to)! The secretary thought all this attention was really wonderful...she sounded like they'd been having a good time with it all, so obviously everybody's correspondence was intelligent and thoughtful and garnered positive feelings. The secretary kept saying how "sweet you guys are"!! I think we all deserve a big virtual hug!! A message from Lynne Ackerman in Toronto (or, as we like to call it, "Hollywood North"!)
