A magazine or book store in a big city is your best bet. If you know anyone in media in an ad agency, or someone who works in a TV station, ask them if they can gift you with their copy once they've finished with it. Our advert is in the Special NATPE issue, on page 121. The article detailing our FK travails may or may not be in the next issue--but I'm sure someone will type the article up for the list should it be published, you won't have to buy the magazine. The magazine is often sold at large newstands/magazine stands in large cities. For example, in NYC, the large newstand in the foyer of the MetLife building (formerly PanAm building) above Grand Central Station carries it. So do most of those other specialty magazine stores in Manhattan. For those in other locales, EM can often be found in the magazine section of Borders Books and Barnes & Noble Superstores. It might take an extra day or two to arrive though. Hope that helps some of you get your hands on it! I got mine today, and the ad looks wonderful! Great job, Celeste! Oh, and for those who are interested: there is a large section called *Twelve to Watch* which singles out people who EM thinks are going places in 1996, and one of those people spotlighted is Jon Feltheimer of TriStar. But, I did speak to someone in the programming department and expressed my opinion that if they're going to show an infomercial, instead of pre-empting FK, they ought to just bump it ahead and leave the episode intact. (I dunno about you guys, but I'l rather have a late, but INTACT episode than a late but interrupted one...but then I'm crazy fool enought to stay up for taping it even if I have to get up at 6:30 in the morning...) Soward" <lgs@i.......> Subject: The Tale of the Stupid Postal Clerk What does this have to do with Forever Knight? Not much, but... It has everything to do with the SOS-FK PO Box... The gist is this : the zipcode for the PO box is incorrect. It's not 00000-0000, it's 00000-0000 I went to my Post Office to rent a box. Fine. I end up being waited on by the slowest clerk in history. While others pass me by, I wait for him to slowly find the paperwork and laboriously fill it out. I pay my money and get my receipt. This clerk points out the PO Box number, which is on the receipt, as well as the zip code. I make a point of asking "The mail will get here faster if I use the last four digits?" pointing to -0000. "Yes" mumbled the postal clerk. So I bounce home and happily post the SOS PO box to the list and the concerned parties. A week later mail starts to arrive. Except that last four digits have been scratched out and replaced by 8596 on ALL the letters. I shook my head and figured it was a mistake. Then the next batch. Same thing. Finally, arriving at the post office when it's open (today), I ask the postal clerk, what the zip code is. "It's 00000-0000 for this office." I explain what's been happening to the mail and she says "Well 0000 is the zipcode for the *post office*, the P.O. Boxes can have different codes, even though they are located in this building. It could cause your mailed to be delayed because they could thinks its going to the wrong address." "Well, *he* told me that it was the correct zip code," I protested nodding my head at the postal clerk who was working the other counter. "Well, it's not. What's written on the envelopes is correct." Grumbling at the stupidity of the Post Office, I thanked the lady and left. If you've made this far, I'll say it again. The correct address for the SOS-FK PO box is: SOS-FK/FoFK P.O. Box 00000 Xxxxxxxxxx, XX 00000-0000 If the flyers and such have the old address, don't worry about it. It'll get here, but just not as fast. The only way it could possibly affect anyone is if (1) the damn thing is specificaly written for the service provider AND software you're using (AOL and Prodigy *maybe* I could believe it would work, but not elsewhere...) and (2) if it's a graphical interface that does lots of downloading and unpacking without you knowing about it. She said they're not going to show "Fever" this week, because they don't have the show to broadcast from their studio. They pick it up when NBC broadcasts it, and last night NBC pre-empted it for the Miss Black America thing, so they have no way to pick up this week's show unless it gets rebroadcast from somewhere where they can pick it up. She didn't think NBC would broadcast it this week for them to show. (But it occurs to me that if there are lots of people in cities *besides* Syracuse that also get it from NBC, and therefore also missed it last night, it means potentially a larger pool of disgruntled viewers can contact NBC about it.) Also, the person who's really in charge of programming there (I didn't catch his name so I don't know if it's the Charles Bivins people are posting about) is out of town until Monday. Also she gave me a phone number to call Forever Knight and see when *they're* going to be broadcasting this week's episode for stations to pick up: 000-000-0000. I'm not sure how this works (and can't afford to make a long-distance call about it myself; my phone service is already in danger of being disconnected [deleted at request of author]), but I'm wondering if enough people called, and got information about possible alternate times it will be broadcast this week, and complained directly to NBC about the pre-empting and somehow convinced them to pick up the show at a special time this week, and *then* peppered the local stations that get it from NBC, something might get done. From what I was told by Julie, there's nothing the local station can do about it now, or could have done about it last night, because the broadcasting and pre-empting were done at NBC and the show wasn't broadcast for them to pick up in the first place. ------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jan 1996 21:52:48 -0500 From: "Sharon A. Read now and e-mail! Okay! I did it! I sent off my e-mail to Mr. Flixman. (I've also sent letters to all the Powers That Be.) Also, does anyone out there (besides me) get FK on WTVG (Toledo)? (I know I "talked" with one Canadian who does . . . ) Well, I called the station today to do my part in the syndicator campaign. Unfortunately, the programing executive was not in, but my call was "logged," whatever that means. I talked for a few minutes with the lady who answered the phone, and she said that for the past few years the programming exec has been very eager to keep FK in the lineup. But I have two "howevers"--one from the lady I talked to and one from me. The lady I talked to said that the future of FK on WTVG is "up in the air" right now. She didn't give me any details, but she did seem to be "in the know." Even so, she (and apparently the programming exec) was not aware that FK is not being actively offered to syndicators, so I repeated several times that they have to *ask* for it. (All the while pretending to be a naive viewer who just happened to hear rumors about FK's demise through the grapevine.) Now the other "however" is that WTVG doesn't exactly have a set time for showing FK, which suggests to me that it isn't high on their list of priorities. The lady said that for the next month the show *should* be on at midnight Sundays. Still, for the three years I have been watching FK, I have always had to check my tv listings to find out when it's on, and I subscribe to the Sunday Toledo paper for exactly that reason. (Sometimes the show airs at 11pm Sunday, sometimes 12am, sometimes 1:30am . . . and sometimes SATURDAY afternoon!) Anyway, the reason I'm explaining all is is this: IF ANYONE OUT THERE WATCHES FK ON WTVG TOLEDO, PLEASE CALL OR WRITE THE STATION! Hi All! Just thought I'd let everyone know that the word is out there....I was on a talker last night and ran into someone on the Vampires list. She knew all about the campaign, believed it and has been writing. See, not everyone thinks it's a hoax..... It came to me the other evening. A song. A *great* song if you can get it played on an AOR station. "The Night" by Heart. It's even about vampires.... Another commercial for FK: The 501 jeans commercial. Doesn't say anything but you get an old photo of a group of people. Then it pans over to the same group, at *least* 100 years later all in jeans. Okay, this is for anyone who is living in or otherwise knows something about the sacred city of Toronto. First, (not to be considered in anyway derogatory of the fine city of Toronto <g>) is there a "red light" district, or at least a street where one could go to meet a lady of easy virtue or purchase drugs (No, I'm not currently planning a trip). I'm writing a story and would hate to make a complete ass of myself by mislabeling an actually reputable area. If there is such a district, does the current FK "lore" have the Raven in or near it? Second, is it easy to get to Toronto from Montreal by train, and if it is, is there easy access to the subway from the train station? (I assume there is a subway. At least, I have a map for one.) That's all for now. I hope someone out the can help me out. Call letters of the station, as well as the city in which it's located, and (if you happen to have this info on tap; don't worry if you don't) their ranking in the local ratings? Also, if the person you spoke to definitely said they will *ask* for FK at NATPE. I know of the following markets which have: KDAF 33 in Dallas NTV (Canada) WKYW-TV 3 in Philadelphia WBBM in Chicago WNYW and WPIX, both out of New York City but there may be some I've missed. Watchable onlu for the scene with Vachon. Nay, this episode is watchable for the risk in which Nat is placed, and for the closing scenes between Nick and Nat. Those scenes are both romantic and playful. Okay, Vashon observing Tracy's bum is funny. Today I received a reply to the letter to Midas that I wrote during the blizzard. The text is identical to one that was posted recently on the list, so I won't waste bandwidth by repeating. My call to WNYW in NYC was obviously not the first. I'm one of these phone-nervous people, but for the sake of The Cause I dialed and asked for the programming department. I have NO IDEA who I spoke to. I stammered out a "thank you" for carrying FK, a comment that an earlier time slot would be nice, and (most importantly) a request that they ask for a fourth season at "that convention where you choose your new shows". [blush] I blanked out -- couldn't remember the initials. The nice lady chirped, "You got it!" and I thanked her again and hung up. She didn't ask my name or anything, so I guess that they had already made the decision about NATPE. (What the heck does that stand for, anyway?) I had downloaded the flyer from the web page, and modified it by adding in the address/phone for WNYW. At the cheapest photocopy place I could find, I ran up 500 copies. I posted some at local supermarkets, left a large stack at Barnes & Noble and a smaller one at Borders, and persuaded my non-fan hubbie to leave some at the comics shop he patronizes. This means, of course, that HIGHLANDER, KUNG FU, X-FILES, HERCULES (and possibly XENA) will all feature rampant deadly plagues running loose in the plot. This fits right in with previous plot-of-the-week synchronicity such as "Bug Week", "Dog Week", "Evil Twin Brother Week" and the like. *Sigh* Leah ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 1996 03:17:48 -0500 From: Felicia Bollin <AriCon@a.......> Subject: SOS-FK Syracuse area Well, I sent Mr. Charles S. Bivins, Jr. of WSTM-3 TV a precious little gift basket from the pricey store in my (occasionally) pricey snobby suburb <VBG>. Also thought it couldn't hurt to include the name of said suburb after my signature, since it has a reputation for being quite affluent in the area. I was rushed for time, so I grabbed the only basket that had nothing Valentine-y on it. It was tough, let me tell you. If he opens it up and it has "Love" written anywhere on it, I will *really* feel embarrassed <VBG>. I didn't even notice all that was in the basket, except for the Ghirardelli chocolate and I think shortbread. (My MasterCard limit grew again {Fools!}, and I couldn't think of a better cause to put it towards). Am still waiting on the S.U. FK fans I wrote to recently. If you're a lurker in the area, let me know *now*!!! I don't have *anyone* who responded other than those I already knew were in the WSTM-3 area. There's *got* to be more than myself, Kristina Maire, and the offlist person!!! Will follow up. Press on! <VBG> Felicia Bollin AriCon@a.......
