impression that only gay men got AIDS, or that it could be caught by
casual contact. . . . .
A common joke was that Lesbians, because of their
particular methods of having sex and thus had the
lowest incidence of infection, must be God's chosen
people! :-)

people. . . . who didn't believe AIDS had anything to do
with divine vengeance.
If you look at some of the movies and TV shows
from the time period, you will see people getting into
full body suits, gloves, hoods, etc. Amazing.
Plus, you can easily find reports of police and
other public service people who would refuse to
treat people. e.g., no mouth-to-mouth, refusing to
even touch somone who was bleeding. Sad.

I love the way Natalie essentially tells Nick to
get over himself.

Interesting question. Although, many series often like to
take chances and push the boundaries. There are usually
two situations where they can get away with it: 1/ when the
show is in the top ten (would Roseanne have been able to
do half the things she did if her show wasn't no. 1?), and
2/ when the show is about to be cancelled (although in this
case, sometimes the remaining shows simply aren't shown
-- you have to wait for the DVD to see "lost" episodes).
Another question along the lines of knowing the show
was about to be cancelled:
I believe Ben Bass is listed in the credits for the
entire season, but he only appears in 10 or 11 of the
episodes. Did they stop using Vachon since it didn't
matter any more what sort of ratings a Vachon/Tracy
pairing would make?

It always sort of bothered me that the experimental rat
was able to get out of the research facility so easily.
I don't think (at least, I *hope* not) that security measures
would be that lax.
On the other hand, had they not been that lax, there
wouldn't have been any story.
Possible spoiler:
It may have been about this time that the PTB decided
to start taking chances . Among other things, this is
when they started killing off characters. I think by the
end of the series, the only continuing character who
isn't dead, or presumably dead, is Capt. Reese.
It's sort of like someone on the writing staff started
thumbing his nose at the PTB.

Some thoughts on "Fever" and the fever causing agent:
Apparently, the major ways of eliminating vampires are:
1. fire (burning)
2. decapitation
3. a stake through the heart
Frankly, these don't do normal human being much good.
1. fire - this ain't gonna help non-vampires, although a
normal person can survive being severely burned
(even though they may wish they hadn't).
2. decapitation - hey, this won't do regular people
any good either.
3. stake - Right. This will effectively eliminate any
normal people, as well !
The only thing that a vampire can't do that regular
people can is to go out into the sunlight.
Now, with the fever causing agent (whether a virus,
antivirus, chemical agent, whatever) there is now
a second item that will apparently kill vampires, and
not normal humans. I wonder if it's a little like
concentrated, miniature sunshine?
Do you think anyone might have kept some samples
on hand in order to take out a vampire or two later on?
If the AIDS virus attacks the fever causing agent
and effectively stops it, might it have had any effect
on Divia's "infection"?

Happy New Year, Everyone!
I just wanted to thank everyone who sent us a card this past Christmas. I
did send out cards, and I apologize if for some reason you sent us one and
didn't receive a card in return. I tried to stay on top of everything, but
we lost my father-in-law (who lived with us) during the holidays, and I
found it difficult to stay on top of everything.
I hope everyone here had a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you a very Happy
New Year. May 2010 bring only the best to you and your loved ones.
Fondly,
Deborah A. Hymon

sent what she thought was an OT post about the FK Card Exchange. Thanks for
being concerned, Deb, but it's ok. It's on topic because it's about list
activities, plus we have a long tradition of holiday greetings on list.
I'm sorry about your father-in-law, Deb.
Happy New Year to all,
