The inimitable Susan M. Garrett said...

The books sold well enough and I know for certain that none of mine were
remainered, which meant they were all sold at regular price and that they
weren't lot-sold as bargain books. The original print run for my book was
30,000 copies and it was extended for another 5,000 and my book sold well
enough for the third book to have an increased initial print run.

And I cheerfully reply...

It still causes me to blush and grin stupidly to know that Susan had
dedicated her book to the lists. You guys (and girls) are the utter best.
Thank you for your years of dedication and willingness to listen to the
listmommy (and daddy, HI DON and LISA!).

*I* pictured Lacroix raising The Eyebrow and musing, "How *do* you solve a
problem like Maria?"
Somehow I don't think that his solution to the problem of a far-too-perky
novitiate would involve her remaining alive, do you?

Well, now you've got me picturing Tracy as Maria. To
quote Anya from BtVS "Thank you *very* much for
*those* nightmares!" ;-)

I can understand on-air shows, but if you walk into many book stores, you find
oodles of Star Trek books, Buffy and Angel series that appear to be still
coming out. It just kind of blows my mind they don't try more books to get people
re-hooked.

I wonder if they think the target audience for FK is different or not as vast
as Trek or Buffy?

Watching the commentary by Ger and others on the second season DVD, I see they
were considered a late night show style, or crime-time after prime-time (which
is how I discovered them). I have to wonder how prime time might have changed
or expanded the audience?

Having invested in the second season DVD and just buying the first season
(hasn't arrived yet) I find the shows just as enjoyable as I did Buffy, although you
might not have the hip hop, tight outfits or campiness...

Oh well, I'll just sit and enjoy watching the eps 8)

I concur with this endorsement since i have this Zine, read it and LOVED IT!

Good news, as posted on the GWD fanclub site: Ger gets a recurring role
on "24" starting in January 2006!

I'm already a fan of "24" so this will make watching all the better.
Yay! (And thanks to Jon Cassar---I'm sure he was instrumental in hiring
Ger for the role since he's a Big Kahuna on the show.)

The final season ran in prime time on USA. But its
hard to say if it was the changes in cast or direction
of the show or the time slot change that did the show
in. Buffy and Star Trek had huge followings, even
Highlander had a strong base of fandom to draw from
before the series ever aired.

Actually, in our neck of the woods, it was still late night in the third
season, at about 11:30PM rather than the expected prime time.

Perhaps they haphazerdly scheduled it around the market to keep the fans off

The Night Time After Primetime refers to the fact that FK started out
on CBS, one of the big 4 (or is it 5 now?) networks in the US. The
whole Night time thing was a big initiative by CBS to broadcast
original programming after hours. Athough, FK and many of the other
first round shows didn't last long on the network, the effort survived
about 3 years. I think Silk Stalkings lasted the longest before it was
permanently relegated to syndication.

I didn't even know there was a second season of FK till I was visiting
my mother in another state and time zone and caught an ep on one of the
local stations. I believe it was being broadcast around 9pm. Luckily is
was "Killer Instinct." :-)

In CT CrimeTime after Prime Time was never on at the same time at least for the
first season! I couldn't set my VCR to tape it. When I did I sometimes got the
whole episode or I would catch the end credits or the begining credits. You get
the idea. I think it was not marketed well. My old flatmate loved Highlander
(yes, the two of us could converse in nothing but Highlander and FK quotes! Yeah
we're geeks, we know it.) We both agreed that is the same PR team that worked
on Highlander did the PR work for FK the show would have been on for a lot
longer. That's just my impression. I don't think I remember EVER seeing a commercial
for FK on the CrimeTime line up. I was pretty disgusted at the lack of
marketing. I mean when FK was cancelled friends of mine tried to get me into Buffy, but
I just COULDN"T. I mean I'm going from classy vamps to BUFFY?!?!?!? It took me
a few years to get into Buffy, but it always paled in comparission for me.
