Thanks so much, Steph! I'll take it off the www.groups.yahoo.com/group/forkni-l
website at the end of the week.

What's even MORE intriguing is that if you do a Google
search on it, the Amazon page pulls up a bunch of Anne
Rice Vampire books along with it!!! :)

Has anyone attempted to explain the whole Battle of
Hastings thing in fic? <g> I've been watching my
DVDs, y'see, and Nick brought it up with Feliks Twist.
Now, the Battle of Hastings was in 1066, IIRC. Nick
was about 35 or so when he was brought across in 1228.
Doing the arithmetic, that means he was born in about
1193. That's 127 years *after* said battle....

I did put that in a story (and of course right now I forget which one,
maybe it was in "Good Help is Hard To Find"?---<does quick
search>--yes, it was!). In my universe, the Battle of Hastings
occurred when...well, here's an excerpt from the story:

=============
"I can well imagine, considering the size of the bill. And no, we're
not even for Hastings yet."

"Come now, Nicholas, I *did* provide very prompt service."

"I was almost staked with a pool cue because of you! Why you thought
it amusing to start singing the praises of Manchester United in a pub
full of Liverpool soccer hooligans is beyond me..."

Aristotle was unrepentant. "Well, it was funny. But all right, I'll
give you the twenty percent discount again, next time you want some
work done."
==============

But was it Feliks who mentions it? I have always thought it was
Aristotle. Oh, well, I like my explanation no matter who brought the
subject up!

The one I read had Aristotle in it and it was set back in time

Hi Everyone:

It was Nick who brought it up to Aristotle in
"Forward Into the Past". (That's how he gets
Aristotle to help Katherine and Madeline.)
Actually--as I believe has already been pointed
out on this list at an earlier point--Nick
couldn't have been there since it took place
about 150 years (give or take a decade) before he
was born.

I like Nancy's explanation. :) Nice work!

Thanks

David

There was quite a bit of fanfic on this at the time of the first broadcast. I
think there may also have been a challenge contest. My favorite is one by
Celeste Hotaling-Lyon in which "Hastings" turned out to be a pub where Nick and
Aristotle had been involved in a bar fight. :)
