Had a look through the posts I've been saving re the coming War, and found
this one, clipped from a post by the McLisa from way back on 20th July:

>Oh, before I forget, I would like to see us go back to the earlier free
>form, which would mean that surprise attacks are allowed without prior
>notification to the attackee. I miss the spontaneity.

So yes, it was mentioned, but it was just a McLisa suggestion. Okay, so
that's usually one stop short of a direct command, but.... I guess that
means it's all up to the War Master/Mistress.

And can I also add that if attacks aren't co-ordinated, then we could end up
with, say, three different factions all apparently attacking the same
faction at the same time and the same place at once, but none of them
mentioning the other attacks, which would confuse the heck out of the
timelines! Not to mention anyone trying to make sense of it. Oh, yeah,
you're right, this is a War we're talking about, and it's not supposed to
make sense in the first place!

Maybe we should go for a revision to the rules that says you can't refuse an
attack and there's no need to be given specific details in advance, but you
must be notified in advance to a) co-ordinate which faction members are
where and when (and why?) and b) to prevent multiple attacks - in which case
a faction can request deferment only of each attack instead. That would
still allow extra spontaneity but avoid simultaneous multiple attacks.
Would that one work?

You don't need their permission to attack them, but you still need to notify
them (in case there is a time conflict with something already going on).
They can't refuse an attack, though if necessary they might ask to reschedule.

Also, they need to know that they're being attacked, so that way they can
look out for the post! And respond accordingly.

Subject: Lisa (Bad News) / Sunday and Monday's Play & Gala

Howdy everyone,

First of all, I have some bad news: Lisa Stevens' fever broke this morning,
so it was looking as though she just might possibly be able to make the trip
from Louisville after all, but then it got worse during the day, plus the
hospital wants to run some more tests. So, she's "officially" not going to
be able to make it for Sunday's opening and post-performance gala, but she's
still not giving up on Monday just yet (even though realistically speaking,
it just doesn't seem possible).

So........if someone wants her tickets for the plays and galas tomorrow and
Monday, please let me know.

Also....As almost everyone knows because I sure as heck say it enough, I
always love meeting fellow fans, so if you're at the plays or at the galas
(or even in town during the day just sightseeing), by all means stop me and
say hello. I have posted my picture on the web, so if you're around and see
me, by all means don't be shy, just come on over and say hello. I'll
probably be with a group (details yet to be worked out), so you'll get to
meet some more of your online friends and acquaintances too.

Oh, right, where's my picture posted? It's at: http://home.ican.net/~goid
The picture is a few years old, but I have been told that I don't look too,
too different - aside from the recent haircut that is. :-)

Finally - If anybody will be in the area and would like a filming sites tour
of Toronto (it's just an hour and a half away from Stratford and well worth
the trip), by all means let me know.

Cheers,
W.

Subject: In search of a story

I've lost my link to a lovely story which I enjoyed a
few years ago and which I'd like to read again. In
this story, Janette brings Fleur across (there's a
scene with one or the other of them brushing her
hair); Fleur remains in love with LaCroix but doesn't
speak to him for years because he burnt the Abarat;
and, in the present day, LaCroix becomes mortal, Fleur
is working on a cure (one scene has her telling
LaCroix to take his "enticing mortal blood" to the
other side of the room so she needn't smell it), and
Natalie takes LaCroix out for breakfast.

Please email to my personal address unless others are
interested in reading the story:
surpassingallotherkings@y......

Thanks in advance.

It's Fireweed by Amy R., one of the "old classics"
of the fandom.

Your question reminded me on something I have always
wanted to ask all of you (I think I did it once but
didn't get any answer). What fictions do you consider
like the classicals of the FK literature? What are the
works one should read to be a "literate" member of the
fandom?

My firt guesses are Somewhere and Somehow by Dorothy
Elggrenn. I think theses are the stories most
mentioned on this list in the 4-5 years since I have
been here.
More? (If you don't want to send your answer to the
list, I would like to read them at least privately).

Thanks
Gladys

Subject: Birthday Admin./Computer Problems

Hi Y'all!

I'm having trouble getting my computer to start up so birthday
announcements may be late in the next few days, depending on when my
computer decides it's too tired to play anymore. I don't have any money
to buy a new computer right now but my folks have generously offered to
give me their old one. I still have to go get it and they live 2 hours
from me. Then I'll have to transfer the old hard drive into my folks'
computer. So please be patient if you expect to see your birthday
announcement and it doesn't show up.

Thanks for your patience while I try to get back online.

Do not meddle in the affairs of vampires, for you are a
