Subject: Attention Toronto Area Fans: McLisa's Tour is Monday the 4th, Dinner
with Lisa is on Saturday the 9th

Howdy all,

About a month ago and on several occasions, both McLisa and I announced her
upcoming visit to Toronto this week. (This is my c.y.a. for "nobody can say
this was too short notice" :-) )

I have been Internet-less for the past week and after just getting my net
connection working again today, I have some more specific details:

1) "The Tour" of filming sites with Lisa will be tomorrow (Monday, October
4). If you're here in Toronto for Bouchercon (or for any other reason)
and/or know any list friends visiting Toronto, please let me know and I'll
get you and/or them in on the tour tomorrow as well. If tomorrow won't
work, we can always get something for you some other day, so don't worry,
you're not missing out - well, except on meeting our fearless leader, but
you'll still have another chance (see below). Also: Even if you've taken
the tour before, by all means you can join us again. Everyone who takes the
tour more than once quickly learns that no two tours are ever the same.
(Case in point: Tracey's tour last month - which I hope she'll post a brief
report on, once she gets settled in at her next stop on her World Tour.
Usually, when we do tours, it's a high-energy trip from site to site and
we've crossed the city once or twice over the course of a few hours, but in
Tracey's case, we took an hour or so to partake of Vachon's "spirit walk"
from Blackwing - including some time marvelling over a turtle :-), chatted
for a half hour over some iced cappuccinos, went over to Debbie's place and
chatted for an hour, spent a half hour at Sheer's prison - so to speak -
before finally getting into some more east end sites for about an hour or
so, then we all got hungry and went to Zorba's on the Danforth east of Pape
for three hours!! All in all, not a particularly productive tour from the
standpoint of the number of sites visited, but it sure was fun :-) )

2) Usually, we do "The Tour" and the post-tour dinner the same day, but the
"post-tour dinner" for Lisa will be VERY post-tour, specifically on Saturday
the 9th. We're still working on the location and exact time. I was
thinking of a place in Toronto's huge and diverse Greektown neighbourhood,
but I still need to speak with her about that. Just so that you know if
you're ever interested in coming up to Toronto and taking the tour: It's
free of charge, and you get to pick where to go for dinner.

So....if you'd like to join us for the tour tomorrow or for the dinner party
next Saturday, drop me a line.

W.

P.S. : If you are a list member from Toronto and would like to meet other
local list members (even if you can't attend either of these two events), by
all means please drop me a line and I'll keep you in the loop for future
events.

That sounds like fun, but the special feature I really want is the full,
uncut, Dark Knight I and II. I think that's the real reason the sales of
the season 1 DVD were poor. I think even if it were possible to put out
the full episode of Dark Knight I and II as some sort of "single", it would
boost sales of all the DVD's. I just think people like to feel they have
the complete set.

I respectfully disagree. Unless they are die-hard fans on FORKNI-L or really
die-hard fans who sit and compare things, I don't think they'd have noticed.
If someone is refusing to buy the DVDs because of a few seconds, they are only
hurting themselves, IMHO.

To be honest, I sure wouldn't buy another set or even just Dark Knight 1 & 2
on DVD just to get the little bit missing. Mostly a financial call, but even
if I had the money, I'd REALLY have to think about it since there is so much I
need (not to mention want) right now.

I spent last weekend at a sci fi convention where I talked to several
non-FOrkni-l FK fans who were not even aware the first season was out on DVD.
They know now ;-)

I would love to see this and there is precedent for
it. I just purchased the Third Season of Due South
and as an extra they included the Pilot which was not
included in the first season set. Alliance/Atlantis
also put out a single DVD of the series Finale. The
first two seasons were bare bones, and episodes on
double sided DVDs, so I can't really complain too much
about the FK DVD's, it could be worse. I'm not sure
about sales, but DS isnt even marketed in the states,
even though it aired on TV here. If I had to guess, it
has a similar following. The FK dvds are not perfect,
but better than nothing.

In another fandom I belong to, the master tapes of the
shows are gone, no one knows where they are, and the
only tapes that exist are the ones that Sci-Fi cut to
shreds and some tapes that the actors kept from their
personal collection. In that case, we may NEVER see
that series in its uncut form on TV and the chances of
it being on DVD are remote.

Look what happened to Rosewell, La Femme Nikita and
Keen Eddie, whose dvd releases were delayed because
music rights couldn't be secured and new music had to
be cut into the DVD versions. Guess how the fans feel
about that? Or My Favorite Martian, the pilot episode
missing and never to be seen again. Its
disappointing, but its not a conspiracy. When these
shows were made, there were no plans or even dreams
that anyone would want to own every episode of
anything (where were they when I taped every episode
of star trek on cassettes to listen to in my car),
even when VCRS came out such actions were only done by
an isolated few, or so TPTB thought. Boy were they
wrong. Now when a show is made, dvd sales are part of
the plan, Season one is out just as Season two is
debuting etc..

I'm not saying to shut up and be grateful, please
continue to ask for extras, continue to make your
voice known, let sony know there are still people out
here who want and care about this show. But I am
saying that we have to be realistic about what Sony
can give us.

I am content with the first season. If season one
sales were REALLY that bad, they wouldnt be putting so
much effort into the next season. So I will buy this
set, and hope they will put out season 3.

No kidding! Even the price difference. I have season one of Due South on my
Amazon Wishlist, and they're $111.59! (someone will really have to love me
to get me those) So the FK DVDs, while pricey, at least weren't that much.

You need to buy them from amazon.ca, not Amazon.com,
they are $52.46 CDN and about $10 CDN to ship

Sometimes you can get better deals from the different
Amazons, and you can buy from any of them. I buy from
the UK site all the time. I have gotten some Ger stuff
not available here from england. (course you have to
be able to play region 2 dvds) Canada is region 1
like the US.

I have actually gotten my DS dvds from Chapters.
(http://www.chapters.indigo.ca The total price came out to be
around $60 US including shipping - which was less than a week.

I have even bought things from the german amazon.com site. Thank god
they are all set up exactly the same because I couldn't read anything
on the site. :)

I have gotten stuff from the german amazon site as
well. They have a lot of BBC (a few Ger Movies too)
stuff on DVD that you cant even get in england, most
of it in english, all you have to do is turn off the
subtitles.

Just a note for those of you who've read the first two books in this series and
aren't sure if you want to buy the third. The first five chapters can be read
for free at the publisher's website. I haven't read the book yet (Amazon says
it's in transit), but the online sample seems to live up to Libby's review.

If you haven't read the first two books, go buy them and read them first. This
isn't the sort of series you should read out of order.

You could read the third as a stand alone, although you wouldn't have a lot
of the background and it is a continuation of things. Because I was sick with a
staph infection when I got book 2, I don't remember the story yet was able to
jump right in on Siege Perilous without a problem.

Of course I'd suggest reading them in order, though<g>

I noticed that the book is only about $15 on Amazon, and just a tad bit more
at Barnesandnoble.com - although it is also a great idea to support any local
booksellers you have. It might work out about the same when postage comes into
play.

Thanks for supporting Nigel and PN Elrod's series! I know it means a lot to
her, and I bet he agree.

I think I'm going to reread the entire series!

HI All,

After much time and work and with my son's help, I finally got my web site
published. It's devoted to my Forever Knight merchandise and several other
favorite shows.

I still need to do a lot of work on framing, etc. on the site and add many
more designs but it's a start.
Please note that my son spelled Eliza Dushku first name wrong. I'll correct
this next week when we continue to update and work on the site. I'm
learning a lot by setting up this site.

I'd appreciate any comments you may have and any ideas you may have that
could make the site better.

Since I'm a member of the Neilson's Computer Rating Group, I'm hoping this
site adds to the increase interest in Forever Knight.
Thanks for stopping by.

There is NEVER a space between characters in a domain name. People
make spaces in pages which can cause problems in some browsers but
domains NEVER have spaces in them. so copying and pasting in this case
is not going to work as she put spaces in the name

While I am waiting for my copy of Siege Perilous, I am reading this
book "Everybody Comes to the Nightside" and each of the chapter
numbers is written in a FK type font. The numbers are spelled out as
words so it looks really cool.
It isn't a vampire book (at least not so far) but I had picked it up
second hand since the cover reminded me of PN Elrod's Jack Flemming
covers.
