This article was in the SciFi Channel weekly news #373:

Feore Suffered For Riddick

Colm Feore, who plays the villainous Lord Marshal in the upcoming SF movie
the *The Chronicles of Riddick*, told SCI FI Wire that it was a challenge
performing in a complete suit of armor. "The armor ... was very cool,"
Feore said in an interview. "I'm fundamentally of the belief that it's not
how you feel, but how you look. And if you look cool, then everything else
doesn't matter. But it sucked. I mean, it was ... pinching me here. It
was knocking me out. It was metal, titanium. [The] hat, the gloves, were
unbelievable."

The Lord Marshal is the general of a "legion vast" of Necromongers, armored
warriors who travel in immense ships and lay waste to entire planets. As
such, he appears in the movie encased in what appears to be heavy metal
armor (but which was made out of a combination of metal and rubber). "The
craftmanship in this outfit was fabulous," Feore said. "But it doesn't do
you any good when someone says, 'But we made this especially for you,' as
they hammer it onto your head. You go, 'You know what? I'm not feeling the
love here. It's still metal, and it still hurts, so could you go a little
bit easier?'"

But Feore said that he was able to understand his character's motiviation in
forcibly converting entire races of people to his cause, the Necromonger
faith. "What is the Necromonger selling? 'We'll take away your pain.' The
pain of choices of living, of getting up every morning and saying, 'What am
I worth? What's my point? What is my purpose?' I say to you, 'Forget all
that. Join the holy half-dead, and I'll give you a purpose. You're working
for me now.'" *The Chronicles of Riddick, starring Vin Diesel, opens(ed)
June 11. *Riddick* is being released by Universal Pictures, which is owned
by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

In another article, Kristin Lehman had also appeared in the original cut of
this movie, but her scene was cut, supposedly for clarity. Maybe it will be
part of the DVD.

Subject: Old FK alumni tape tree - help?

I've discovered something very embarrassing - an old (at least 4 years,
probably 5) FK Tape Tree tape. Has some eps of The Campbells,
Goosebumps, something else I can't decipher "GETH/TTWDNH" on it.

I was supposed to pass this on to another fan in Alaska (Barbara H. you
still out there?) but somehow didn't. I've unearthed it now that I'm
moving ... Does anyone want this back?

Looks like the person who started it was R. McNamara, but I didn't get
a reply to my earlier embarrassed email to them.

I'm probably coming into this late but I just had my
own private marathon of the Showtime series "Dead Like

shows including the pilot, I saw Captain Reese,
Schanke and Vachon. Confirming once again that there
are a limited number of actors in Canada.

Well, the vegetarian theory is still holding up well--in Unreality TV, at the
party at Nick's loft, Stonetree asks Nick where he got the "pizza roll things"
that were on the snack tray. And I think veggie pizza (or cheese pizza) is even
less of a stretch than tofu dogs!

Three more episodes to watch and see if anything blows a hole in my lovely
theory. . .

Your theory is very intrigueing, Angela. However, I can't help but compare
Stonetree (my favorite captain!) to all the vegetarians I know. They're all, um,
considerably less portly than our Joe.

So---lots of cheese n' beans for Stonetree?

Oh, definitely. There is nothing saying that a vegetarian diet has to be
low-fat; in fact, the Moosewood Cookbook's current edition starts off by stating
that earlier vegetarian cookbooks tended to stress fat in order to make the
food seem less Spartan.

Or Stonetree might have just changed his diet recently (perhaps just before the
series started!); a low-fat, lacto-ovo vegetarian diet is considered very good
for weight loss and heart health, and Stonetree's spare tire would take quite a
while to deal with. Dean Ornish's book on reversing heart disease with such a
diet was first published in 1990, which would tie in nicely with the FK
timeline...

Actually, most of the vegetarians I know, with one
exception and he is an excercise freak, are rather on
the portly side, one is doing macrobiotic, and most
others rely heavily on Carbs -- Beans, rice, pasta,
cheese dishes.
