First night and it was warm - warmer - really warm - the Air Conditioning
ISN'T WORKING in the theatre. Actors in beautiful, but heavy, costumes begin.
Ger seems to have really put on some extra weigh in a very short amount of time
since Lear. Good cooking? Padding to get through the sword fights? Neither
- Ger informed us after the show it was melting ice packs. He also said it was
one of the hardest things he's had to get through.

But Ger enjoyed the role and the audience knew it and loved him for it. The
new translation is a little strange at times, but fun. No prerequisites
necessary. The theatre atoned for the lack of air conditioning by offering free
drinks during intermission. Appreciaited after the 1 hour 55 minute First Act.
The air conditioning did come on and continued to run during the Second Act (1
hour 20 minutes). For Ger's final scene the ice packs gratefully disappeared

After the show - over a couple of beers and during NBA Finals commercial
breaks, he asked if we had seen the 25 Cult TV GUIDE story. He got a real kick
out of the whole article and FK's inclusion. When interviewed for this, he
commented on the Knighties at King Lear specifically to show his appreciation
to all those who came to see him in Lear.

He looks great despite the Herculean effort to get through the opening night
mishaps.

Standing ovation.
