Well, ok, but I think they should specify. That's why they put those little
letters after Washington DC, right? I swear, if Vampires overtook the
state, no one would notice bloodless zombies. there's just so little
*spice* around here.

Woo-Hoo! More responses than I expected, actually. I haven't done an FK
party in a while. Sounds like it's time. Once we get settled, of course.

You Know You're An FK FanFic Writer when.... you sit down to watch your
favorite episode and instead end up spending 50 minutes going back and fourth
over the same 15 seconds, analyzing expression, tone of voice, timing, trying
to figure out what had happened just *before* the scene opened, etc, etc....

I do the same thing..., now you have my interest piqued...
What scene was this?

But also, sometimes I get a scene in my mind and can't remember if it
was actually in the series or if it is from fanfic. Some fic is
really *that* good.

LOL...I'm the same way with most of my fandoms. I'll
be trying to think of something I thought was in an ep
and then it's like "oh, wait a minute, that was fanon,
not canon!" lol.

I've been reading an anthology titled _In Her Words: Women's Writings in
the History of Christian Thought_, and the twelfth chapter offered me a bit
of an FK moment this past week.

That chapter excerpts the writings of a Hadewijch of Brabant, who "lived in
the first half of the thirteenth century" (so, a contemporary of Nick and
Fleur's). According to the biographical note introducing her work, she
left three manuscripts, composing one of the two earliest extant examples
of vernacular Dutch prose. "Her writing indicates she was an educated
woman who spoke French and Latin, and was at home with a number of
patristic and ecclesial writers. Though such an education indicates she
was of a higher class, she became a [member of a religious order] at some
point, probably caring for the sick . . ." One line from her own writing
that particularly struck me was: "We all want to be God along with God; but
God knows that there are few of us who want to be man with Him in His
humanity . . . to pay with Him the debt of humankind" (letter 6).

Given this primary source and a fannish bent, it's impossible for me not to
imagine this voice in conversation with the characters of that period of
FK's story, and perhaps even to hear in its cadence and complexity a mature
Fleur, who shares its time, place, class and sex. So close! <g>
