This didn't go through last night, so here it is again....

Ok, one more observation before I go to bed....

I know there had been a debate about the end of Close Call, whether
LC put the whammy on Schanke or not...
well I paid close attention this time while watching it - rewinding
and watching the scene a couple of times...
When LC is telling Schanke that he is tired and stressed and that the
mind can play trick, and that he should go home and be with his
family.... right up until Schanke asks if Nick is adopted...
During that section, Lacroix's voice has an echo to it. No
heartbeat, but the echo is only in that one section. It really made
me think that yes... LC did put the suggestion in Schanke's mind that
it was all in his head. Not really a full whammy, but a little push
in the right direction (or misdirection)

Maybe I should watch FK on very little sleep more often... I am
really noticing things...

<< Plummer is only going to be in it for 8 weeks, but the
show will last longer. >>

According to the Vivian Beaumont Theater office at Lincoln Center, the play
closes on April 11....deosn't change casts or the lead...just closes. And yes,
the tix go on sale right after the new year.

Another aside...the Beaumont was modeled after the Stratford stage...a thrust
stage as was the Tyrone Guthrie theater and a couple others. Apparently this
version is the one that didn't work......oh well.

What is even more fascinating is that LaCroix never lied once to Schanke
during that whole interview.

I remember thinking at the end of the scene that it wouldn't have done
any good for LaCroix to simply tell Schanke to forget since Schanke
still had the copy of Nick's driver's licence and the daguerreotype of
Janette.

Since Nick wasn't to be told Schanke had got a traffic ticket. he
would have had no idea that Schanke had run a check on his old new
York driver's licence.

In that case, they can move the play to the Guthrie here in
Minneapolis. That's a really great theatre, and I've always hoped that
Ger could work in a play here.

Plummer's been here. Why not Ger?

i was just watching 'Partners of the Month,' and i realized that Nick wasn't
born as early as some people (including myself) have in their stories.
Natalie says to Nick on the telephone, "You're almost 800 years old...." So,
if
she's right, he couldn't have been born before 1196 because that episode aired
in
1995. Anyway, just thought i'd share this for the people who have been
thinking a couple years earlier. Are there any comments in other eps that
conflict with what Nat said?

But what does "almost 800 years old" mean? Within 25 years? At that
age, "almost" is relative. It's like we say that Lacroix is 2000 years
old. But if he was 45 when Vesuvius blew up (his apparent age, IMO) in
79 AD, that means in 2003 he's actually 1,969 years old. We just
round it up. Maybe Nat's rounding up, too. <g>

What most people go with is "he was brought across in 1228..." and how
old Nick looks in the present day. The general thought is that he was
33-35 years old when he was brought across. 1228 minus 35 is 1193.

So that's the date I use for his birth year. FWIW.

I always assumed that whenever the "800" number was used, it was being
rounded. I know that in casual conversation, were I Nat, I wouldn't do the
precise math and say, "You're 795 years old..." Given how little Nick told
Nat (which, admittedly, was more than he told anyone *else*...), it's
possible she doesn't know his exact birthdate/year (though I know I'd
demand that kind of information for data keeping if I were her).

It's also possible that Nick didn't have an exact date of birth for
himself. Now, given his family's standing, it is certainly more likely
that he *did* know, but records simply weren't as well-kept or
pervasively-kept at that time.

I just know that I wouldn't assume that an "almost 800" could be used as
data on his age to within a year or two; I'd think it would be more like to
within 20 years or so, given the tendency to round numbers especially in
conversation. Also--given that this is a show that simply forgot that the
Battle of Hastings was in 1066--and around 150 years before Nick--I
wouldn't count on that as a definitive piece of data.

Now, re: Hastings, my own personal "fix" for that glitch is that I decided
that it was a private joke between them, or that Hastings was a bar
somewhere, or.... :-)

Patrick Stewart has also been here in the Twin Cities more than once,
IIRC, and a lot of sci-fi fans went to see him. I know people who
would go to the Guthrie to see Ger (myself included). It is definitely
an awesome theater.

According to the closed captioning, he did. I can't remember the exact
