Well, this list says the Vivian Beaumont Theater, while Playbill.com
lists it as The Lincoln Center Theater. Either way, it is at the
Lincoln Center complex. Previews start Feb 11, and the show opens
March 4.
Tickets will probably start selling late November or so.

Does anyone have a realistic idea of the cost of tickets and a cheap
hotel in a decent part of town nearby? That's only a two day drive
from here and might be a nice vacation...

Any one know how long this play with Ger will run? I will miss it by two
weeks. I am going to the Chicago area to my friends wedding but must be back
to work the day or so after the 22nd of Feb. :(``````

I might be able to swing another visit The week before Easter if it's still
going!!!

Two answers here
Broadway tickets run anywhere from $50-$100 depends on the seats. I
think Lincoln Center may be on the higher end of the scale though.
Previews begin Feb 11 and will run on the same schedule as the play.
 (Usually T-Sat at 8pm and matinees on Wed and/or Sat/Sun) It isn't
like Stratford where different plays are on different days.
Broadway previews are just so the play can be shown in front of a
live audience and be tweaked before the reviewers see it on opening
night. The schedules are the same as after the play opens.

I had a spiffy thought - some Lincoln Center productions get recorded
for 'Live From Lincoln Center' or 'Great Performances,' for example,
the 1998 production of 'Twelfth Night' and the musical 'Contact.' So
maybe Ger will wind up on PBS, too - tape trees could flood the globe,
thereby satisfying everyone who isn't already making plans to flock to
Manhattan in springtime! :D

The standard B'way schedule is 8-shows-a-week. Plummer announced months ago
that he would Not be doing a full schedule and that the show would probably be
only 5 (maybe 6) performances a week. Lincoln Center has not posted the exact
schedule yet.

Subject: Nick's Loft condo conversion - a progress report

Driving down Broadview Avenue this evening on my way to dinner, I was
somewhat perturbed to notice that the old water tower, long a local
landmark in it's place atop the Loft film site, was no longer there. I
was much relieved to find it sitting in all it's rusty resplendence in
the now fenced off courtyard. At ground level, it's quite a lot larger
than it seemed to be.

The sheds in the courtyard that used to house a succession of auto
repair/detailing shops have been torn down, and it would appear that the
interior of the building has been pretty much stripped of it's
non-structural interior walls.

Hopefully, they'll put it back up. Would be a real
shame to lose it.

This article may be outdated, but the only info I found:
"Plummer told The London Free Press in 2002 he won't play Lear more
than EIGHT WEEKS in New York, and he would do five performances a week."
->  http://www.playbill.com/news/article/print/77931.html

Wondering now, the 'hunky' article says Ger "was rumoured to be returning to
Stratford in 2004, until Lear came along."
Rumour or not, why 'until'? If Lear really runs eight weeks only, it would be
over by middle/end of April, so couldn't he still play in Stratford as well,
later in the year, job-sharing for a few weeks like in My Fair Lady?
Or perhaps he's not playing more than two months in a year overall?
Or Lear goes touring to more cities afterwards?

Subject: Mars and LaCroix

I was researching some info on the Roman God Mars,
especially since there's all this Mars fascination
right now and realized that "Mars" was LaCroix's God
(or at least one of his main ones). Check it out...
-------
Mars (god)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Mars was the Roman god of war. He was the son of Juno
and a magical flower (or Zeus) and initially was the
Roman god of fertility and vegetation, and protector
of cattle, but later he became associated with battle.
As the god of spring, when his major festivals were
held, he presided over agriculture in general. In his
warlike aspect, Mars was offered sacrifices before
combat and was said to appear on the battlefield
accompanied by Bellona, a warrior goddess variously
identified as his wife, sister or daughter. His wife
was also said to be Nerio.

It is believed that Mars was originally an ancient
chthonic god of spring, nature, fertility and cattle.
He fused with the Greek Ares and became a god of death
and war as well.

In Rome, his primary temple was on the Capitol, shared
with Jupiter and Quirinus. The temple to Mars Ultor
("the avenger") was in the Forum Augustus. Another
temple to Mars Gradivus ("he who precedes the army in
battle") was where the army gathered before leaving
for a war. The Campus Martius ("field of Mars") was
dedicated to him; it was where soldiers and athletes
trained. Mars was called Mavors in some poetry (Virgil
VIII, 630).

In the Regia on the Forum Romanum, the hastae Martiae
were kept in a small chamber. Any movement of the
hastae Martiae, the "lances of Mars," was seen as a
omen of war. If Rome was attacking, the generals moved
lances and repeated Mars vigila ("Mars awaken").

On March 1, the Feriae Marti was celebrated. On
October 19, the Armilustrium was celebrated; the
weapons of the solders were purifed and stored. Every
five years, the Suovetaurillia was celebrated; a pig,
sheep and bull were sacrificed. On February 27 and
March 14, the horses race of the Equirria were held.
On March 23, the Tubilustrium was celebrated by
purifying weapons and war-trumpets.

Priests of Mars and Quirinus were called Salii
("jumpers"). They were referred to as jumpers because
they jumped down streets and sang the Carmen Saliare.
A priest of Mars alone was called a flamen Martialis.

In art, Mars is depicted as an armored warrior with a
crested helmet. The wolf and woodpecker are sacred to
him. His children are Fuga and Timor.

The month of March was named after him.

Mars, unlike his Greek counterpart, Ares, was more
widely worshipped than any of the other Roman gods,
probably because his sons Romulus and Remus were said
to have founded Rome; the Romans called themselves
sons of Mars. As the consort of Rhea Sylvia and father
of Romulus and Remus, Mars was considered the father
of the Roman people.

He is associated with Quirinus, said to be the Spirit
of Romulus, the founder of the City. Quirinus may have
been a Sabine deity, however.

   Pretty interesting huh!?
