Last Time I was in Walmart they had a DVD/VHS combo for $109, a basic DVD
player for $49

Unless you have a TV with Stereo or S-Video output, you will need an RF
adaptor (another $19 to 29)

Julia...you are a clear thinker...thank you.

Sony spent years and years forgetting we FK fans existed!!!! To applaud their
final "cave in" after 6 or 7 years since the show stopped production is in
my mind ludicrous.

Let's be greatful for the dvd's...buy them en masse...PLEASE..... and if we
must auction items, send the money to a deserving cause...not Sony...in any
form!!! They will reap the rewards they deserve if we buy the dvds...and they
need nothing more. There are many needy causes we could send the proceeds
to...Children's Hospital for one.

I know the idea of a movie will be brought up at this point and I would
remind everyone that Geraint Wyn Davies, although a wonderful actor, is now 46
years old and has changed a good deal. The likelyhood of a movie is minimal to
zero......in my opinion...at least with the past cast.

I would have to agree with you. About the only way GWD could play Nick at
his age would be if NK became human at the end of Last Knight .. But... since he
seems to have a penchant for playing baddies these days.. I could see him in
the role of LaCroix.

Farfetched you say??? Might I mention that Patty Duke played both Helen
Keller and Annie Sullivan in two versions of the Miracle worker? And what about
Nigel?? well I could suggest an older, even more evil Vampire... But I am just
dreaming here.

That's a tough call. I can see where a lot of people would be wanting to
send thank you gifts, because this is something we've been waiting for for a
long time. However... I'm finding that I'm agreeing more with you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as happy and thankful as the next person. But these
aren't being issued as a special favor to us as a group, or to the KtK
group, or anyone else. This is being offered to the general public.
Perhaps we (as a whole) did influence TPTB to release the series on DVD a
little sooner than they normally would have. But who's to say that's the
case?

Okay, I'm rambling now. Sorry. My point was that I think Julia is right.
If we purchase sets, and then manage to convince our
friends/families/kids/strangers we met on the street to buy them as well,
then they'll realize that we really wanted these and that they're
appreciated.

Just my humble two cents... please leave any and all flames at the door in
the bucket of water I have provided.

As far as I am concerned everyone could play their own roles over again
for this reason. If we suspend belief when we watch a show about
vampires we should be easily able to suspend belief that they ever
changed. At least I wouldn't care. I wouldn't want anyone else in the
roles.

I'm with you Cheryl!!! I don't care if they don't even give a reason.
I just want the show, move or mini series with some or ALL of the cast.
We could even have the 3rd season be a (K)nightmare if Lisa Ryder can't
comeback and we can get John Kaplos.

Now if we can only coax Debroah DuChene back. or at least get
a very close look-a-like.

and no I did not forget Catherine Disher. <g>

Of course that is what WILL make an impression - sales. We are talking a
business here.

But there's nothing wrong with doing the unusual, with showing a little of
the milk of human kindness for which FK fans are so known for. We aren't talking
a huge gift, but rather a small thank you that shows them there are humans
behind the statistics of the sales, not just the number of the DVDs flying off
the shelves.

Another person mentioned doing something for charity. FK fans are WELL known
for their generosity in that regards and we are constantly raising money for
this cause or that. The LCA event is coming up in October, for example. That
descended from Bridging the knight, if I recall correctly.

I don't see anything wrong with a civil thank you. People don't thank people
enough these days. Yes, Sony is a business but there are humans behind that
business. There are humans behind the decisions being made. Just as there are
humans behind fandom.

If you don't want to participate in a thank you drive, then don't. I personally
have written letters over the years to keep FK on Sci Fi, then to bring it
back to Sci Fi, then to put it on video or DVD. That showed them there WERE
fans out here. If Sony had never heard a peep about the show, if the reruns and
Sci Fi hadn't been popular, then we wouldn't have our DVDs coming out.

It will be important to show them sales number to get seasons 2 and 3 - that
WILL be the most important thing. It won't hurt to show them there are also
appreciative PEOPLE behind those numbers. It may not mean a hill of beans if we
thank them or not when it comes to getting seasons 2 and 3 out, but that's not
the point. The point is to show them we do appreciate the PEOPLE behind the
decision.

We aren't talking about thousands of dollars worth of thanks.

Besides, DVDs are just one form of merchandise - maybe we could bring the
novels back, official t-shirts, action figures, comic books, and all those other
fun things.

I've seen a thank you impress a "power that be" in another business to the
point the person who wrote the thank you card got the job over everyone else
qualifications and number of years of experience aside. A thank you never hurts,
and it sometimes moves mountains.

In the interest of those who will be buying DVD players to watch the FK DVDs:

I have had three DVD players, still have two. The first one was an expensive
Sony. PIECE OF GARBAGE. Skipped. Turned itself off. Overall worked when it
wanted to work (this all after the warranty date passed). It finally refused to
even turn on, and I had to dismantal it to get the DVD out.

I then bought... I can't remember the brand, but it was the cheapest one I could
find at the time at Sam's Club. $89 and it had a 3-DVD changer. I love this one!
I can stick 3 DVDs in and flip from one to the other without leaving the sofa.
You might call it the "Nick Knight" version - hahah (due to all his remotes)

I also have a GO DVD/vhs tape recorder/player combo. I also love this one
although it won't play VCDs people have given me (home made DVDs so to speak).
Very easy to hook up, good picture, I can watch videos and DVDs on the same
device. The only gripe I have is that it automatically turns on the DVD player
when I turn on the machine, but a click on the remote stops it and I can switch
to video view or tv view. It was $199 or so at the time i got it, but I've seem
them less expensive.

I read a report about a year ago that paying for brand name with DVD players
doesn't always pay off. You are basically paying for the name, plus bells and
whistles you may or may not need. So if you're broke, the el cheapos might do. I
did have a friend who bought one of the $49 ones and had to take it back to
exchange, but that could have happened with a $600 one.

Keep your receipt and box until the warranty expires so if you have trouble, you
can get it taken care of. Although we apparently aren't getting extras with FK,
the DVDs hold up better than videos and take up less space. I doubt they are
digitally enhancing the pictures at this price, so it may be a video quality
picture but I still would rather have that on DVD than video.

Just be sure not to buy a DVD from any bald guy with a cockney accent who stops
you after dark. Of course if it is a member of the Ratpack, buy a dozen ;-) <g>

Come on - with as many people drooling over Ger are there are - on and off-list,
who really cares how many years have passed? He still looks great - on stage and
in person - and personally, when he's 95, he'll still have everything going for
him. Because there is something about that man that has absolutely nothing to do
with his looks that makes him VERY attractive. Wish I could define it better
than that. But there it is.
