You gotta wonder if Kapelos (or any of the other actors) get flashbacks to other
shows (not just FK) when coincidences like that turn up.

For the collectors on the list, there is a Forever Knight Crew Jacket
available on eBay.

I've been reading the list for a while now but
having discovered Forever Knight fairly recently
I've had nothing to contribute. I do have a
question that more experienced fans might be
able to answer.

Ebay always seems to have lots of items related
to the show. How can one tell what is "real" and
what is not? Are the videos (VCDs) currently
available legal? What about the photos? How can
you tell if they are "real" studio pictures or
computer prints?

Was there any "official" merchandise available
when the show was on? Items like hats, mugs,
mousepads or shirts? What about the jackets that
sometimes pop up? There was one mentioned here a
few months back, a vest up recently and there's
another jacket up right now. Are they really from
crewmembers?

In other words, how does one avoid being ripped
off?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

No, the VCDs are not "legal" FK merchandise. They are fan-made, and
should not be sold for anything more than the cost of the materials.
(If Sony thinks someone is making a profit off their property---the FK
characters---they can get quite unpleasant.) There is a long tradition
of fans making copies of the show on tape for other fans, and simply
asking for the recipient to pay for the blank tapes and the cost of
shipping. That seems to be okay with Sony and TPTB.

I've seen ebay auctions that said the photos were actual photos, not
scans. Outside of that it's hard to tell without seeing the actual
photo.

Official merchandise is limited to the two Fred Mollin sound tracks
and the three novels. Then there are the crew jackets, hats, and other
crew gift items. Everything else is fan-made.

The crew jackets are easy to recognize. They are black melton wool
trimmed with leather, and have the red FK logo on the back (including
a raven) and on the breast is the Paragon logo. Recently there was a
black bathrobe on Ebay that was a crew gift---that one was a new one
to me, but it was genuine. I've got a crew down vest that has the same
design on it as does the crew jacket. The jacket currently being
auctioned on ebay is genuine. The seller says that it was bought at a
WWG (Weekend With Ger, aka Gerthering) auction.

Just be aware that only jackets or vests that look like the one on
Ebay are genuine crew items. The press kits are pretty sure to be
genuine, and the pub photos are often real photos. Everything else is
fan-made, and it's up to you whether or not the quality is something
that appeals to you.

Oh, sometimes show props come up on Ebay, too. They will say that
they're actual props (we see matchbooks with the Raven logo on them a
lot). You can always ask the seller about provenance if you have
doubts (where did it come from, how was it acquired, etc.).

Good luck,

Yes, they've been truly "generous" to us allowing us to do that. There's a
number of people who will provide you with episodes on tape. VCDs aren't as
common yet.

We've heard that Columbia House will be releasing season 1 on DVD this
October, so there's really no way to allow the creeps on eBay selling VCDs to
get money from unsuspecting fans.

That's very true. There are good photos out there as I've purchased a few at
science fiction conventions and have been given a few. Always e-mail the
seller and ask if you aren't sure.

Some of the fan-made items are highquality. I have a jacket that I love that
is fan made. Also some fanzines and cookbooks which were done for charities.

Fan clubs have from time to time released items about the actors which are
nice as well.

That's a very good point as numerous props are now in fandom hands. I have
"The Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed" (or as fandom often says, I am the "keeper" of the
Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed). Things like LaCroix's ring, Nick's coat, Nick's
drivers license, the harp, etc. are in fan hands. It is very unusual for someone
to part with these treasures, but it does happen.

Another thing to look for are charity auctions that are not necessarily on
eBay. Kickstart the Knight and some of the fan clubs do these from time to time.

I do too. It is much like the 'official' ones on ebay, 'cept mine
doesn't have the leather trim. But it is a really nice black stadium
jacket with the FK logo embroidered on the front. I have gotten many
questions when I've worn it. Even found a fellow fan at the Pathmark
check out. :)
Also, someone on this list (sorry can't remember her name - I am at
work and don't have all my info) makes FK shirts that are very good
quality embroidered. She sometimes sells them on ebay, but you can
also buy direct. I have a lovely Raven shirt and also a Debrabant
Foundation shirt.
